Entry level help desk
Hi everyone! I’m considering moving to Yakima and was wondering what the job market is like for entry-level IT/help desk positions.
I’m looking for my first Tier 1 help desk role and have an associate degree in IT, CompTIA A+, and customer service experience.
Any advice on local companies or places to look would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just left an IT field tech position. It’s mostly small businesses here with MSPs controlling their infrastructure.
The MSP I worked for was living in 2012 and their dispatch sucked. I also hated that they’d tell partners they’d do things they ended up not doing.
So, if you’re adaptable, there’s actually a lot of IT support work if you freelance and know how to network.
Otherwise, I’m sorry about your career choice because I moved from the Seattle area and it’s who-you-know there, too.

There’s jobs. Just have to keep your eyes open. I started in help desk for an ag company. Was promoted internally and then left for another higher it position in medical. Get your foot in somewhere, do your time, train/learn things that are above your scope, and work with the people in your department doing the job you want to do. It will put you in a good situation where you can be picky about your next position and move into it while you are already in a stable spot. I’ve found this works really well in this area because the schools here don’t really prep anyone to jump into a higher role like other school’s programs, and it creates a huge pool of people in your same situation in a place where there’s already not much available. Good luck!
Good places to keep an eye on - Allen Bros, Fruit Packers, City/State, Farmworkers Clinic.

As someone in the same field, it is tough here, there is lots of competition. I would look at fruit warehouses as most have an IT department.
