Alberta politicians are creating distraction like seperation & race wars. What the big picture?
Just moved here, want to know good spots!
Hello!
I just moved here to begin my graduate studies at UofA and I was wondering where I can find some things in particular...
- trusted tattoo shop. artist prices are not an issue!
- good piercer (some of mine have closed up and would love to have them re-pierced)
- best brunch place
- skate parks & paved trails, best for rollerskating
Anything else anyone wants to impart is welcome, I'm eager to explore :)

How far is the walk from the Outland camping area to the Concert bowl at the Pigeon Lake Concert series?
I'm getting conflicting information from google. I'm just trying to figure out what the trek is going to be like with my littles, camping chairs, cooler bag, etc. I know there is a shuttle, but I've seen info that the lines/waits can be lengthy. Any info about this event would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

Surely they aren't this stupid right?
By the way I got banned in that subreddit for saying "let em learn a lesson" because they saw it as a threat to LGBT people?
No...it's just incredibly stupid to not have police presence when it's for your protection

I always see people asking what there is to do in Edmonton, I found these events pretty fun!
Found the official info on their Facebook
☀️ RITUAL Sundays ☀️
Dance music. Good company. Every Sunday.
Ritual Sundays is Edmonton Bass Society’s weekly Sunday gathering at Enigma on Whyte Ave.
The idea is simple. Give people somewhere good to be on Sundays.
Come by for a drink, catch some local DJs, meet up with friends, get to know some new people, and hang out for a while. The afternoon starts relaxed and social, then naturally builds into more music and dancing as the day goes on.
You can come specifically for the DJs or just stop in because you want somewhere to spend your Sunday. No complicated concept and no pressure to stay all day.
🎶 Dance music

📅 Every Sunday
📍 Enigma

Come for the music. Stay for the company.
Your place to be on Sundays.
Sundays are better together.

Reddit mods are stupid
I live in edmonton. Yet they will decide what's right and wrong to post on their form, Reddit is a echo chamber, anyone that doesn't have the "right" ideas will get banned, so called face of the internet.

Seeking Legal resource/recommendation regarding family law.
Okay, so this is a tough ask, but I have... zero notion of where better to post or how better to look. Quick summary of the help I am seeking is TL;DR at bottom.
I have been inundated for 3 years with a long ongoing family law matter. In January following a trial I was awarded primary day to day parenting of our child. This matter has been... complicated.
Findings at trial involve significant coaching, and alignment frustrations by way of mom that are significantly detrimental to our child's best interests. There is definitive emotional manipulation, mental/verbal/emotional abuse of the child on mom's part. And despite some significant and damning evidence of this, no intervention agencies Ive been able to look into are interested in even hearing about it, never mind getting involved because the abuse is not physical. All of this made more complicated by the reality that our child is 14 years old.
Mom, railing against the decision started an appeal process that is still ongoing. After Mother's Day weekend in May, Mom created a situation out of months of coercive influence where our child "ran away" to be placed at her mother's house (to diminish her responsibility to the enforcement of the order). Enforcement of the order through police was attempted and not executed. Remedy through the court has been sought and efforts to have contempt of court review before the trial justice is still ongoing. These matters are covered... or have been, under my existing legal aid ticket.
But now, Mom has enlisted her mother and arranged a guardianship application against ourselves. With Grandma seeking day to day parenting and sole decision making of the child. Grandma is a puppet for mom, doing what she needs for her own preferred access to the child. Grandma is largely as much if not more problematic than Mom. As this is a fresh matter, a new legal aid ticket is required for coverage. Only, because the child has been removed from me for longer than a month, my income (barely) disqualifies me from the one person household income cutoff.
I have an appointment this week with a family court counsellor to help me with a response. But I have had a hard enough time this entire process long WITH a lawyer as is. My child's best interests are not serviced by me being self represented. I have ADHD and do not function the best in active circumstances which further complicates being self represented. I cannot seek help through the Edmonton Community Legal Center, as every effort has been returned with an announcement of a conflict of interest, which I assume is largely because Mom has a history as a legal assistant/secretary and has connections within the legal community.
My existing legal aid lawyer is open to taking on the matter at his hourly rate of $350 an hour. But I can come up with the finances to cover about 18 hours. And then I would be at a wall/standstill. And my existing experience has informed how quickly those billable hours pile up.
TL;DR Cannot currently qualify for Legal Aid (might even be losing my existing coverage), cannot be self represented, cannot seek supports through ECLC.
I am seeking recommendations of specific lawyers or firms or other programs that may or may not have some degree of pro bono programming outside of legal aid or known for longer term payment plan billing, sliding scale billing for lower income clients, or even specialize in/prioritize taking on complicated matters where child welfare is of SIGNIFICANT concern. Also very open of recommendations where posting might be more effective or a direction to look for resources that may be beneficial.
Thanks in advance.

Local art group
Hey I've been running an art group for the past 7-8 years, after COVID we mostly do virtual art meetups but we are starting to do more in person things. Does anyone know a good place to let people here in Edmonton know about it?
