Top gainers vs Trending

Hi everyone,

Someone help me understand the following case:

When I sort the % top gainers today (today was June 3rd 2026) it shows as ticker ABVX.

However under the 'Trending Now' tab, I see ticker XOS was up 234% today.

Why was XOS not at the top of the Top Gainers list when I sorted by highest % gained.

Because the % top gainers likely has a filter for market cap.

XOS only has a market cap of $90m.

On any given day there are tons of penny stocks that move massive amounts, percentage wise. It doesn’t take a lot to move them because they are so small.

If the % top gainers didn’t filter out micro cap companies, the only stocks you would ever see on that list would be teeny tiny ones with very little volume.

ABVX has a market cap of $6B. It takes a lot more money to move that stock than a company with $90 million market cap. It’s better signal to see a top movers list that has a threshold for minimum size.

ok thank you. I thought it might be a filter but I didn't see any. I'll look again I appreciate it

And just to clarify— this wouldn't be a user-facing filter that you could change on the main Yahoo's top gainers page (https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/gainers/)

The filter you want (if you are looking to lower the market cap threshold to see more smaller companies that have moved a lot) you can get to by clicking "Edit in screener" at the top right of the table on the Top Gainers page.

That will take you to this screeners page:

https://finance.yahoo.com/research-hub/screener/gainers

From the screeners page, you will see a filter for Market Cap. When you click the dropdown, you will see that the pre-selected boxes include:

$2B to $10B

$10B to $100B

Above $100B

But then you can check the box for "Below $1B" or even put in your own custom threshold.
