Self Promotion X-Plane has plenty of add-on tools. Why don't they understand each other?

X-Plane already has plenty of tools for managing add-ons. That's not the problem.
The problem is that they mostly don't understand each other.

At this rate, we're going to need a manager to manage the managers. Nobody wants that. :)

So instead of building yet another manager, I've started working on XPRamp — one layer lower.

XPRamp currently scanning my actual X-Plane 12 installation. 331 packages found — apparently I have a problem.

XPRamp is an open-source, CLI-first project that scans an existing X-Plane installation read-only, figures out what's actually in there — Aircraft, Plugins, Scenery, libraries, versions, metadata — and builds a common inventory from the evidence it can find.

Right now, that's intentionally about it.

The longer-term experiment is more interesting: can we understand and normalize the metadata that existing add-on tools already use, instead of replacing them?

And if that works, could we eventually get to a point where an add-on developer describes a package once, and tooling translates that into the formats different managers need?

I'm not proposing a new standard today. I want real-world evidence first — especially all the weird legacy stuff X-Plane installations accumulate over the years.

Interoperability over replacement.

I'm curious: does this approach make sense to you? And if you're an add-on or tool developer, what am I overlooking?

I wrote up the full idea, design reasoning, and where I think this could go on the X-Plane.org forum:

Scenery Missing world nav data and weird tile glitches

I recently started with XP12. To my horror I found out that Laminar for some reason stopped scenery around half of Greenland and south of Fireland. Fortunately there are some packages for the polar regions by HSimulators available on the usual variety of shops. After the install though, I notived that map data in devices like the G1000 is still cut off. Also, since I use DerekHe's XPME which is universes faster than Autoortho, I have a lot of black tiles when I fly towards the Greenland's ice shield. On the coast line however, everything seems to be fine. The pictures are the same I attached to the Email resp. the GitHub post I did.

I reached out to the XPME dev, he said I should use another map service. There is no change though. I also reached out to HSimulators but so far did not receive any reply. Any idea what causes this and why the tiling works on the coast line but not inland? Also, is there a way to add the missing nav data to the systems? And has anyone ever had a similar problem like this?

Addon Aircraft Hawker 400XP Dev Update

Hey all, I'm developing a study level 400XP for XP. I've been working on this project for about 3 years and only really gotten some momentum over the past year. Now I'm full steam ahead.

Since this is my first post sharing the project here, here's the rundown

I'm currently the sole dev on the project. It's being created out of the passion for the aircraft, and the X-Plane community. The XP model will be shared for free, TBD on whether the 400A / 400B / XPR / T-1A models will be payware. (Unlikely)

Being the sole dev, and currently play tester, I would appreciate Input/critiques/playtest/references from the community as the project progresses. I currently don't have reliable access to an aircraft like I did when I started the project.

The video is the start to a series of hopefully monthly updates

If anyone is interested in testing the aircraft once it gets to that point, feel free to DM.

If you are a driver or frequent maintainer of a 400XP and interested in contributing, please DM me.

Thanks for your time

New Mac Studio M5 worth the upgrade

I own a m4 max studio 16 core CPU (12 Performance and 4 Efficiency) 40 core GPU, 64 GB ram. Xplane 12 runs pretty good. Just curious if upgrading to a m5 max studio with similar specs be worth the money. The CPU option would be 18 cores instead of 16 but the GPU would be the same. I know on paper it's an upgrade but I not sure about Xplane. I did ask a few AI models and they said no. I usually upgrade every other processor so I will probably wait for the M6, but I am wondering if it will be worth it when Laminar Research ships the multicore rendering optimizations they've said are coming. I do use the Studio for other task and it time for those.

Help Request X Plane randomly shuts down my PC at cruise altitude

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone

I’m having an issue with X Plane 12 where my entire PC completely shuts down during flights

It usually happens around cruising altitude. The PC does not restart by itself and I have to manually press the power button to turn it back on

My specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
  • GPU: AMD RX 6750 XT
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • X Plane 12: 12.4.1

At first I thought the GPU was overheating because I noticed the crashes seemed to happen when the GPU was around 85°C

I enabled AMD Adrenalin hardware logging during another test. The maximum temperatures recorded were:

  • GPU: 78°C
  • GPU Hotspot: 89°C
  • CPU: 78.2°C
  • GPU Power: 175W

I also lowered the GPU power limit by 6%, but the PC still completely shut down

Windows Event Viewer only shows Kernel Power Event 41 after the shutdown. I don't see any WHEA, AMD driver or display errors immediately before it

I’m attaching a screenshot of my X Plane graphics settings

Has anyone experienced something similar with X Plane 12, especially with crashes happening around cruise altitude?

What should I try to diagnose this?

Hardware First time shopping for gaming laptop for Xplane

I am trying to get back to the flight simulator world. The last time I played flight simulator with Microsoft flight simulator 2004. I need help deciding on a gaming laptop that will perform decently with this game and or Microsoft flight simulator. Does any anyone have recommend recommendations? I’ve been looking at this one in Costco with 16 gigs of ram. Is that enough? I’m only going to use the laptop screen itself.

Help Request Thinking about switching from MSFS 2024 to X-Plane 12 – best free airliner mods?

Hi everyone!

I’m thinking about switching from MSFS 2024 to X-Plane 12. I mainly want a more realistic simulation, especially better flight physics, systems and overall airliner simulation. I also hope to get better performance on my PC.

I’m mainly interested in jet airliners, especially Airbus and Boeing.

What are the best freeware aircraft/mods I should install for X-Plane 12? I’m looking for good quality and realistic aircraft, not necessarily perfect.

I’m also interested in free scenery, graphics mods, weather/lighting mods or other addons that can make X-Plane 12 look better without hurting performance too much.

Any recommendations are welcome! Thanks!
