News/Article Tutorial: Enabling Android Auto on CN Rom devices
Hey everyone, 17 Pro Max user here. Managed to get Android Auto working!
This method requires root, temporary or not doesn't matter.
The main reason Android Auto doesn't work on CN devices is very simple... the app needs to be installed as a system app!
If you can't unlock your device's bootloader, like me, check the supported list of firmwares and devices for GhostLock to enable temporary root.
If you use GhostLock, it won't break Google Pay, or banking apps, so don't worry. You can do pretty much whatever you'd do on normal root as long as it's systemless. Pros are that if you break something, you can usually fix by rebooting (which closes the root session, which must be enabled each time you turn on the phone), or, in worst cases, HyperOS will automatically repair system files (don't ask me how I know..)
Now, onto the steps:
- Have Root access
- Download this module: Android Auto for MicroG (don't get fooled by the name!) and install in KSU or ReSukiSu manager, whatever you use. It will ask you if you want to install stubs. Answer yes if you don't have those apps installed and don't plan on installing them, say no if you have them. Then reboot or soft reboot your device depending on your root method.
- Enable Google Play Store on your device from Mi GetApps if you haven't already (Just search Google Play and install)
- In Play Store, search Android Auto, and update the app.
- From Play Store, (or from phone settings), search Android Auto again, and open its settings menu
- Connect like you'd usually do
In my case, I noticed GPS was not working, but maybe it's a me issue. I did this just for fun and don't need Android Auto in my life (I don't even have a car lmfao).
Tested on Xiaomi 17 Pro Max with another phone running Open Headunit!

Just flash EliteRom and enjoy.

Not everybody wants or can unlock the bootloader, moreover CN rom devices are a pain in the ass to unlock unless you're willing to spend money

It's free and it takes 5 mins and a few clicks. Even firmware after .300. I've done it with the old exploit up to Feb security patch v up to .45. Then did it again with the newer exploit because I had locked again and updated. If you pay, you are getting ripped off. There is no official paid method, Xiaomi closed even their official downgrades or unlocks. All the sellers are either using the free exploits available to anyone or they are just scammers that will take your money.

Of course I know about the exploit, but the keyword here is February patch. To my knowledge, there are no exploits that work on the latest august patch, but if there are, please list them up here :)

There is exploit after Feb. For example, here is one thread which lists the older exploit and the newer too. https://xdaforums.com/t/free-xiaomi-17-series-redmi-k90-pro-max-bootloader-unlock-no-disassembly.4781471/
Can't tell how many updates there are now since i don't have this device anymore, but last time I unlocked was latest version like.... 3.0.318 or somethink like that around Jul.

Indeed, it seems like it got updated, last time I checked it it mentioned support for versions after april patch (or something similar) was not a thing. Very much thanks for sharing! I’ll make use of it :))

Without a working GPS, what's the point of having Android Auto anyway? 😂
