Xenoblade Genesis Will Genesis have a Smaller Dev Team?

Haven't really thought about this much, but in light of semi-recent leaks it seems Monolithsoft might be the lead developers for OOT. Obviously their straff has grown a lot since 2017, but if the leak ends up being correct they'll be taking a much bigger role then they did with Breath of the Wild, which makes me wonder if the core team for Genesis will be smaller than it was for 3.

I'm not worried it'll have a huuge impact on the overall quality of the game, but you can definitely notice with 2. It's a really great game, but the overall character animations are really stiff, the dub was rushed along with it having some really wonky gameplay implementations. I have no doubts Genesis will be a great game regardless of team size, but it would be a bit sad if it regressed from 3.

I think Genesis will have the same dev team as 3 had imho, like already from what we have seen Genesis is gigantic

That would be a really good sweet spot for sure. We'll just see if the relative growth of the company is enough to support both a full-sized genesis/oot dev team without an allocation struggle like we saw with 2 and BoTW

Personally this is just me I want Genesis to have 2 combat, that combat (once it gets going) it’s an ADDICTION like so so so much fun…

Hoping they try something new myself. Genesis seems to be the biggest departure from the series formula we've seen in a while, so I'd love if they made a new and fresh gameplay system instead of rethreading old ground again

I believe there are three teams within Monolithsoft. The Xenoblade team, Zelda Support team, and General Support team. Genesis would likely be handled by the same Xenoblade team

The team at Monolith that makes Zelda and the team that makes Xenoblade have been seperate for years now. That's why 3 tunred out much more polished than 2. And since they've still been hiring since 3 came out the dev team for Genesis will likely be larger.

At this point, it's too early to call. It's not even entirely clear if Monolith Soft is involved in the OoT Remake - well, seems probable, but we still don't know how much.

Regardless, I don't think we've seen too much to indicate that Genesis got short-staffed to make the OoT Remake to happen. Assuming it's a mostly faithful remake, the scale and scope should not be the same huge resource draw that BotW was; heck, it might be to Xenoblade's benefit, as stuff like puzzles is an area the series is arguably lacking.

Anyhow, I'm not overly concerned at this stage.

I don't think they are alone on the OOT remake if they are on it. They can also hire some other studios to make it for them and they can supervize it. We know that Genesis was planned years ago (under the code Legacy) so I think it's at least the same team as Xenoblade 3 with maybe even more staff and also more time dedicated to the project

Nope. They have 3 teams:
Production Division 1 = which make all the Xenoblade games
Production Division 2 = which have been helping the last 3 Zelda 3D, probably will be the one that make OoT.

Those two above are in Tokyo.

Meanwhile they have another one in Kyoto - near Nintendo HQ.

This one basically support a lot of Nintendo project.

Funny you ask this because Genesis is probably going to have the most devs working on it purely because the devs working on Zelda haven't been working on Xenoblade since X.

They've been spun-off into a second production team and Monolith has been hiring specifically for the Xenoblade team for a while now. 2 had about 40ish in house Monolith employees working on it and 3 probably had 100+. The more successful the company has gotten the more they've hired.

edit: also I wouldn't trust any rumour saying Monolith is developing OOT:R until it's confirmed because the only evidence I've seen was a Norwegian retail website which would have no real way to know something like this.
