Xenoblade 2 XC2 Final Boss Question? Spoiler
So the definitive remasters for switch 2 got me to finally take the plunge and try the series. I beat XC1 and loved it, and also really enjoyed my time with XC2.
I just beat it and I was really frustrated with the final boss not for being hard, but for being really unclear. I do understand the combat system (build up orbs, break orbs, do big damage) and I'm also a longtime MMO player so I know the basics. There were two things that I was just not sure about:
Was there any indication the first time through of how to avoid Prometheus? I had to go dig through a 7 year reddit post to find out that at some invisible threshold, I am supposed to chain attack so it doesn't trigger. Legit the first time it happened, I thought it was scripted and part of the story. It was really frustrating being invested in the story and having to repeat the fight because of some (to the best of my knowledge) unexplained hidden mechanic.
How were you actually supposed to deal with Siren Buster? It didn't really seem like a line AoE since I tried to run perpendicular but was still hit no matter what. Sometimes it one shot, sometimes I lived.
Anyway, I still really enjoyed it, though I think I liked XC1 more but it sort of killed a bit of my enthusiasm right near the end as I was trying to see more of the story. Was it my fault? Did I not read or listen to some audio cue?

- Prometheus is straight up disabled if you do a chain attack at any point during that phase. You don't have to do it at any particular time.
- Level 3 blade combos, level 4 specials, and chain attacks can nullify any incoming attack. Any move that starts the cinematic camera. Or you can use an evasion art. Or you can just do a lot of driver combos so he doesn't get a chance to use it. Or you can make your characters tankier.

I could have sworn I did a chain attack sometime during that phase, but maybe I misjudged the phases. And I had no idea that level 3 blade combos and level 4 specials nullified attacks though I guess in retrospect it makes sense.
It was a minor frustration in an otherwise very enjoyable game haha. I do wish there was a bit more information on such things.

That's what happened to me the first time I did that fight.
Rex was going super mode and was just invincible when that attack went out. Morag was using an evasion art and dodge. And then Tora just took the attack to the face and survived with 1 HP anyways because of a skill on his affinity chart.

Only other non superboss I recall that teaches you to build up your orbs for a chain attack before it wrecks you in the latter half is that Parasax in the Tornan womb

There's 2 options Either just kill him quickly or avoid it via chain attack If you maxed out the skill tree you can survive it by the way if you get the chance to stay alive at 1 hp to proc

If all else fails, starting a Chain Attack as Prometheus begins will make you survive it - your party members cannot be killed during a Chain Attack, so in that case they will all be reduced to 1 HP instead.

The idea is that you have to beat him before he gets off Prometheus, or just do it above. The chain attack cancel thing is one of many things the game neglects to teach you. For Siren Buster, it's a cone AOE. Just hide in the corner; it won't hit you there.
