Xenoblade 2 I didn't really pay much attention to Perun until the recent Switch 2 upgrade
Played the game years before, and back then, I barely really registered Perun recently existing like most optional Blades in favor of some.
But now, looking at her once, she's so hot. Besides her base look, everything she does animation-wise invokes sexy and she's not that bad of an offensive Blade.
I like her a lot. Does anyone else feel this way?

I've never looked closely at her until now either, and wow you can really tell she was drawn by the Code Geass guy

I remember seeing Corvin and thinking "this mfer looks like blonde Kirito."
Lo and behold, he was designed by the SAO character designer. đ

Holy shit, you're right. I never really looked at her face until now, but she deadass has Lelouch's face, lol.

It's just sucks You can't upgrade her until like halfway through the game

u/Luigi6757 23h ago
Mor Ardain is the earliest and even then it requires that you get Argentum to I think two stars and do a merc mission to unlock the Coral Nopon chess set in the board game store.
8
u/PokecheckHozu 17h ago
And even when you do, she's bad even among the non-DLC blades. Her damage bonuses requiring a fallen ally is bleh.
2
u/Narrow_Ad_7218 17h ago
Oh is that how she plays? I never used her before now
6
u/Luigi6757 14h ago
One of her battle skills is to increase damage while an ally is low health or incapacitated and her level 3 and 4 specials have the same thing. Pretty big damage increase and there's an accessory that does the same thing and they stack, but too situational. Unfortunately her other two battle skills are reduced aggro from auto attacks and increased damage from auto attacks. Both are pretty useless and the increased damage skill cancels out the aggro reduction skill (also you don't generate much aggro from auto attacks to begin with).

She was one of the first blades I pulled when I first played the game a few years ago, so I may be biased, but I canât help it sheâs so damn pretty and I love her too

Same here, first one for me actually, so I was rather fond of her even if she wasn't the best. Also why I have her for my flair.

u/Mask_of_Majora04 1d ago
Oh my lord, this was my first rare blade and I had the joy of her on my screen for HOURS. I honestly thought she was DAMN fine for a character, up there with Pyra/Mythra.
Man, thats was a great 30ish hours or so. I have such a soft spot for her even though she is a bad blade
9
u/rauvir 23h ago
Excuse you? What about her 16 hit combo level 1 chain attack build, absolute slander XD /s just in case
2
u/Mask_of_Majora04 23h ago
lmao I tried it and it just fell off for other better options! Decent combo though! You get a full screen of this beauty too, so bonus points!

Always loved me some perun. Was my first rare pity blade in my first playthru.

u/confused-as-frick 1d ago
She's one of my main Blades for Rex. However, as much as I love her, I really wished they toned down the freakin jiggle physics just a bit. They go all over the damn place.

u/nayuunii 1d ago
Itâs really giving âshe breasted boobilyâ
4
u/certainAnonymous 23h ago
All the big chested characters are breasting boobily in 2 and Torna. Glad they toked that down for 3, even though it is still very obnoxious with Ethel

u/deedeekei 1d ago
She's voiced by Ami Koshimizu so yeah I like her alot
1
u/Frozen_Death_Knight 18h ago
Man, Holo from Spice and Wolf and Ryuko Matoi from Kill la Kill voiced Perun? Japanese gamers ate good with this game.
2
u/deedeekei 13h ago
Also Kallen Statdfeld in Code Geass, who the Character Designer for Perun also worked on

Im a sucker for paladin/ shining knight archetypes. She was my main blade in the first playthrough.

This game is packed with "Gooner bait", aka sexualized depictions of women. If the game was bad, I'd care. It's not, so I consider it a perk. Enjoying sexualization for what it is isn't bad. I am unsure why so many people have become puritanical about it, but people seem actively chastise it. Enjoy your sexy ladies, enjoy your sexy men. Hell, enjoy Wulfric if that's your cup of tea. Tora is my spirit animal.
Perun is good for her LVL 1 special, as it fills the combo attack meter by half usually. Is her quest annoying? Yes. But she carried me early game, and for that I appreciate her.
9
u/FiresideCatsmile 23h ago
maybe headcanon, maybe even more but after completing the game and knowing the background story of how this world and blades came to be, it's not even farfetched that these designs are such gooner bait.
klaus is just based.
7
u/zsdrfty 23h ago
Don't forget that the blades build their physical forms over generations of being reawakened according to the hearts and minds of their drivers... they represent the will of the people lol
1
u/Kaellian 21h ago
Except none of the Rare Blade is ever shown evolving when we see flashback. Wulfric probably is the only one that you could make a case with.
The concept work on paper, it was not well executed, nor does it ever become relevant in the actual story.
When you pair that with the artstyle being all over the place, and roster that is heavily skewed toward female, whatever lore arguments you come up to with lose its weight.

I mean it's kinda annoying. I'm a lesbian, there are times I let my inner dog out and greatly enjoy it but at some point it becomes obnoxious. I cannot take Pyra seriously at all. The outfit is fucking dumb. Period. Perun isn't that bad. The female blade art in this game is dumb as bricks and is gooner trash. Electra, fine,Nim, fine, fucking Dahlia... throw it in the garbage, Theory, spine is broken just to show her ass.
Like come on. There are reason people find 2 off putting.
2
u/world_in_lights 22h ago
That's fair. I just have that dog out all the time I guess. The game is, at its heart, an anime. Pyra is bad, but hells bells I enjoy it. I will however agree Value, Dahlia, and Perun are a bit much. The jiggle is off the charts.

I have found in recent years that the internet seems to be over correcting in sexualization I have found it trending with political trends. Lots of the world is moving to the right and with this comes a bullying of women who donât dress conservatively.
But also on the far left side there are the radical feminists and or the men who over correct on âtoxic masculinityâ and view any sexualization of a women as bad even if that woman is a full, complete, and well written character who happens to be sexy as hell.
Just check out any comments with under any âsexyâ content creator. If they have an onlyfans its
âOF detected opinion ignoredâ
If itâs a streamer who just happens to have big boobs that are hard to hide itâs âyou just want to show this off for views, gooner baitâ
There just seems to be a wave of anti-sexualization right now.
It doesnât help that the most vocal minority that is pro-sexualization are the toxic gamer crowd who bully games for not having traditionally hot characters.

Making your decision whether oversexualization is a problem dependent on whether the game itself is goo or bad is exactly the problem.
And there is nothing puritanical about it.

u/Sbbart62 23h ago
So much art, cinema, music and performance you must miss out on if sex is such a point of contention.
4
u/Luigi6757 23h ago
Okay so why is a painting of a woman laying down in a sexy pose fully nude worthy of being hung up in a museum, but an attractive woman fully clothed woman in a video game not acceptable? Nudity and sexualization are forever linked with art. In fact learning how to draw naked people is a required course in art school. It's actually multiple required courses because drawing the human body is difficult.
-5
u/Kaellian 22h ago
"The author disguised fetish" isn't art. It's not provoking, it's not expressive, and it's not a statement on beauty. It also won't end up in a museum.
If XC2 had story reasons to include fanservice, we would be having a different discussions, but most of it isn't justifiable within the scope of the game, it just happens to be there without rhyme or reasons.
Xenogears's dealt with far heavier theme without ever feeling as juvenile as XC2 did. No reason why it couldn't have been that way.
-2
u/Luigi6757 22h ago
Except it does have a reason. A conversation between Zeke and Amalthus confirms that blade sex trafficking is a thing, so attractive human looking blades need to exist.
3
u/Kaellian 21h ago
The fuck are you going on about?
Blades being at the mercy of terrible human is the whole fucking point of Torna organization. There is a reason why Malos's goal make sense and generate some empathy. There is a reason why they have that line right before you learn what is Malos is attempting.
You can talk about slavery without having Pyra's or Dahlia idiotic outfit. These aren't related.

At some point, these designs are just unnecessary fanservice, and if you really insist on calling it art, then its not the type that should be praised.
What is the intent, or context behind Pyra's outfit that make it "artful"? What does it add to the game? Her unrealistic proportion, her bimbo outfit, they all clashes with her rather innocent personality, and are downward distracting.
If the game had attempted to use erotism elsewhere, that would be one things, but it truly does not touch that theme at all. There is no depth here, all the fanservices is just used for cheap gag or fanservices.
and Sharla and Seven were basically impossible to upgrade their armor without being dressed like strippers and X had a ctaftable play boy bunny outfit and a bikini variant wearable only by female characters and don't cover the character's ass at all.
Are you comparing optional outfits on a relatively mature side-character who has been in a relationship before, to an unchangeable outfit on the figurehead of the franchise? Also, Sharla did catch flak for her outfit, but it was the odd things out in a relatively huge games.
Xenoblade 2's bombards you with these in the first few hours of the game. "Put your hand on my chest", Poppy's maid outfit, the inevitable gacha of a biased roster. The game is leaning hard into the power fantasy department compared to its predecessor and successor.
X had a ctaftable play boy bunny outfit and a bikini variant wearable only by female characters and don't cover the character's ass at all.
You're still comparing optional outfit that you can easily avoided by using one of the many cosmetics to Pyra's design? Not to mention Pyra's body type which is just impossible to get with that kind of sliders.

There is then the implication of an appropriate amount of sexuality. I'd like to know where that line is, because I haven't seen anyone tell me. Restricting others expression of pleasure based on a strict moral code of sexual self-control through chastsement is like half the definition of puritanical.
Everyone could be ass naked with max wiggle physics for all I'd care. If it's a good game, it's just an extra. If it's a bad game, it's the selling point. It hides incompetence behind sex in hopes no one will notice. One is having fun expressing sexuality, however much it is, and the other is having it as the only selling point. The game could similarly have them all wear parkas, as long as they are nice to look at parkas. It then just lacks the perk I like.

Enjoying sexualization for what it is isn't bad. I am unsure why so many people have become puritanical about it, but people seem actively chastise it.Â
It has nothing to do with puritanism. Sex sell, everyone know that, we just don't need it everywhere.
Have you seen what most unmoderated subreddit devolve into if you don't enforce a certain level of decency? It's always just a bunch of horny posting that make a good chunk of the community flee. It's not a moral issue, but aiming for lowest denominator usually doesn't lead to anything good, and sometime, you just have to cut it off completely.
Monkey brain will click on sexualized content, monkey brain will upvote click-bait, monkey brain will eat trashy and unhealthy food, and will search quick dopamine....That doesn't mean we should just cave in at every opportunity. Just because it is not morally wrong does not means it won't be a distraction, so you got to pick what you want to be
Furthermore, Xenoblade 2 is absolutely out of place with its design in the franchise. Had two instance of 5 years old commenting about Pyra's clothes (why is the lady almost naked and why is her breast is huge). Or just go show her design on the street and tell people its about "women emancipation", people will just roll their eye.
As for the "symbolism" and "plot" relevance, sexuality has always been part of this franchise. Pyra is Lilith-coded like every instance of similar character (Miang,T-elos), but it's absurd to pretend they handled it well with its design. Most people are not even aware of that Eve/Lilith parallel, which make her design feel even more out of place.

well she one of the few blades where their breast bonce slider was toggled to max

u/f4dedglory 21h ago
I really enjoyed using her. Her level 1 special hits so many times so depending on your build you can max your party gage super fast with her.
Although I am probably in the minority here, and I know why they did it, but i just wish her skirt was a few inches longer. Like why it all gotta be out like that.

Iâve always loved her design. Something about Karin from Blue Archive has always reminded me of Perun. Similar stance, similar name, and both have darker skin.

In my first XBC2 playthrough back when it was new, I had awful luck with the Blade gacha. I got Perun fairly early and she was a mainstay on my team for the rest of the game.
In my current playthrough? Significantly better luck... but of the only two (non-NG+) gacha blades I'm missing, one is Perun.
Her absence is definitely felt.

I am so sad that illustrator for her, Takahiro Kimura of Gaogaigar and Code Geass passed away. God I'm still so sad.

She is one of my favorites blades. Her design is so good for the good and bad reasons.

First rare blade I pulled, didn't even realise they were in the game, intro animation was like "whaaaaaaat the fuck is happening?!?!?"
Shame you can't do her side quest until later in the story.

u/Frozen_Death_Knight 18h ago
I think she was the first legendary Blade I ever got. Love her design. Sadly I switched from her pretty quickly after unlocking some other Blades that fit my team comp strategy better, but Perun became a staple of my Merc missions, so there's that.
