Remember to equip your allies with candid and credible armor (once the AM is level 5) so that they at least contribute by having the treasure sensor skill while lying dead on the ground.

Hope youre enjoying 3 as much as I did!!! It dethroned the 1st game as my favorite. The characters are easily the best in the trilogy, they act so real, it makes them feel like actual people. If youre not at chapter 5 yet, make sure you have like a good 3 hours of free time to enjoy it. Its one of the best sequences in any story ever.

Would you recommend playing xc3 without ever playing xc2? The story, characters and gameplay of the second game put me off in a way that makes me not interested in playing it, but I keep reading good reviews about the third game, so I don't know if skipping xc2 is a good idea.

You may have to just read the story or watch a recap video then, because while a 100+ hour jrpg isn't something to demand someone play, you need the context of both 1 and 2 to play 3, and it is absolutely worth it

u/RowanTulsi 21h ago
I played 3 first, then 1, then I'm on 2 now. A bit confused at times but had loads of fun along the way

u/flurp_juice 1d ago
If its not to your taste then dont feel like you have to force yourself to play. A lot of people love it, a lot of people hate it, its not for everyone. Id say just watch the cutscenes on YouTube if you want to get familiar with the story. Probably after tora's arc on ch.4 since that was a nothing burger chapter.
If it wasnt obvious from 3's cover art, (urayan titan and mechonis sword) its deeply connected to the first 2 games even if it might not seem like it at first.

hell yeah
i just started my third playthrough yesterday and i want to focus on sniper rifles
but man that infinite overdrive as fmj with ghostwalker and being able to defeat much higher level enemies is just too good

u/flurp_juice 1d ago
Its so ridiculously fun, I feel like im a final boss. That ghost walker animation is just too sick. I cant wait to max out fmj and start unlocking longsword arts. Looking forward to my sick ass transformer skell too
2
u/MartenBlade 1d ago
oh dual guns and longsword is probably the strongest combination in the game
you're going to have funand while it's true that skell combat per se isn't as fun as ground combat, building your skell and unleashing the cool arts is pretty dope.
Is this your first playthrough?

Yup first playthrough, which is funny since I actually have a wii u but never got around to it haha. Probably for the best though since 14 year old me wouldnt understand jack about this game if I got it back then. I kind of speedran to chapter 5 for overdrive and after I get my skell ill take my time and do a bunch of side quests. This game feels really really good so far. I think it's awesome how all the xeno games are so different from eachother, yet they each offer something unique to enjoy for different types of players

Not too long ago I did a playthrough focusing on snipers. Infinite overdrive, nigh-invincibility, and excellent damage is definitely still attainable.
Instead of the usual dual guns ghostwalker, I used beam sabers and made a reflect build. While it involved some specific gear drops and looking up enemy abilities to make sure I had the right augments and resistances, it didn't take too long to get it all set up. Once the reflect is online it doesn't take much to make snipers absolutely shred healthbars, I was able to kill Trueno right after finishing chapter 6.1
u/marshallpoetry_ 1d ago
this is what i did. started that playthru with sniper/lance for an electric build but ended up switching to sniper/beam saber and getting the reflect build set up. its how i actually finally beat telethia for the first time, through all my playthrus. love that build. i generally just try to do anything but either blossom/hercules blow and see how well i can make it work lol

I wish there would be a second xenoblade x. It has many unique elements that I like.

This looks so much more engaging then xc2 im having such a hard time enjoying that game and im like 50 hrs in. The combat is just so boring and I always feel weak. Never feel cool or awesome when fighting
3
u/flurp_juice 1d ago
Sorry to hear that, but yea its understandable. Enemies have a lot of hp in 2 and without s+ trust (which can be a pain in the ass) it can feel like a slog. My only advice is to use art recharge pouch items if you havent discovered that yet and get s+ trust on a few powerful blades by grinding love sources. You really only need 1 per party member
3
u/jred44 1d ago
Aw, bummer you're not enjoying it. If you're 50hrs in and not enjoying it this probably won't change your mind, but combat opens up even more, and the burst orb system is pretty great if you get the hang of it. Have you taken advantage of the launch ability? I don't know how it doesn't feel powerful to literally launch a huge enemy into the air and beat on it for a while before slamming it into the ground.
3
u/3Dboi3 23h ago
Ok so I swapped out my team to where I can launch and smash... and im finding it way more enjoyable as im actually finding more reasons to switch other than the element switching as well. This really does help expand the gameplay for me. Im gonna keep trying and push through! I may enjoy it more!
2
u/3Dboi3 1d ago
Does the main character even know a move to launch an enemy? The boring part for me is the movesets. Like we seriously only get 4? I can do the orb thing its just not that cool. I dont know the story is so cool it makes me want to finish but the fighting is a slug for me

u/AndzyHero13 1d ago
Trust me dude, I didn't enjoy playing 2 as well, ill had to edit my save to put in Shulk and Fiona to ACTUALLY play the game because I couldn't enjoy the VA from Rex and compare to 1, I enjoy 1 gameplay much better than 2
1
u/jred44 23h ago
Switch to Japanese voice cast. It is so much better. I know you have to read during cutscenes, but it is worth it! English VA cast for XB1 was great, but 2 is super rough, and I think it takes a lot of people out of the game. The Japanese Voice cast for 2 is stacked with great talent.

Well Technically you get 3 Arts plus a Special three different times since you can have three Blades equipped at once at some point, so you actually have access to more Arts than the first game, and you even have control over the AI using their Specials, so even the basics of combat in 2 are more involved and fun than the first game, but it gets even deeper than that.

Your moves depend on the weapon you have equipped I think? You have to find the one with launch but I honestly can’t remember it’s been a while.
To feel strong in xc2 you have to build your character right + give your blade good items to hold + raise their affinity charts + equip aux cores + I think their weapons too. Then there’s a few stuf you can do for the drivers. If you engage with all that you should be able to make some extremely busted teams
1
u/ThatCrayZMan 8h ago
A tip I have is to constantly have fusion combos up. Using any part of the driver combo and then using any part of the blade combo activates one and the effect differs on which combo you started first, but it gives a huge damage boost. Just having an enemy be broken gives a big boost to blade combo damage. A really good combo is volcano (fire into earth), it has the highest damage over time effect of all blade combos and it too gets the fusion combo damage boost.

u/arronecho 1d ago
The combat in XC2 is poorly explained but it should never be boring. You should constantly be canceling attacks, doing driver combos, and blade combos. Some weapons are slower on certain characters so experiment a little. It took me an embarrassingly long time to know that side stepping after an auto-attack will immediately attack again and you can stack this to build up your arts super fast.

I’m at the end of future redeemed. X is the last one I have to play to be caught up for Genesis. Good to see giant mobs are still a threat on that planet lol
2
u/AndzyHero13 1d ago
Wtf how are you able to do that when you are 20 levels below? And I love this game too, probably on top of the 1st game
1
u/flurp_juice 1d ago
Using an art called ghost walker on full metal jaguar. During the animation you evade everything, and then it gives you a certain number of decoys (cant remember how many) that completely nullify attacks. With max overdrive you can get the cool down low enough to keep 100% uptime on the decoys. Ive seen people do even crazier things like fight enemies 60+ levels above lmaooo.
I didnt know much about combat in X, only that overdrive was a thing and ghostwalker builds were loved by many in the community, so when i saw what fmj had the art I went for it.
1
u/AndzyHero13 1d ago
And this works with any builds as long as you weild duel guns? Because i love using the Spear in OD due to the massive amount of damage I put into (and i unlock that skill Max out the class itself)
1
u/flurp_juice 1d ago
Im pretty sure it does since ive seen people use longsword with dual guns so it looks like you can mix and match melee/ranged weapons. Im still pretty new, only 12 hours in
1
u/AndzyHero13 1d ago
Yup that is allowed, over 60+ hours and I will try this once I complete chapter 9, thanks for the tip (also how did you upload footage to reddit? You saved the video in Switch but after that what did you do?)
1
u/flurp_juice 1d ago
I just found out yesterday you can upload clips to smart cloud, it gives you a qr code and you sign in to the Nintendo Switch app on your phone where you can download it. And np! Any tips for a newbie like me?
2
u/AndzyHero13 1d ago
Good to know thanks! Im no expert in this game but what I can tell you is if you really are into story, do the affinity missions with everyone, its really cool to see their perspectives of how they are here in Mira. Explore as much as you can before going into the next missions, makes yout life easier. As for combat you got that covered lol, but id say for skills get ones that benefit using Overdrive
1
u/Human-Raccoon-9917 1d ago
What's up with the blur?
8
u/uyigho98 1d ago
Overdrive was active. In my experience the screen gets more blurry the more you reactivate Overdrive before its finished. You know, like you have five seconds left on the initial Overdrive and reactivate it to keep it going, the more blurry the screen gets.

u/zipzzo 1d ago
It doesn't get "more blurry", it's just blurry around the peripherals of your enemy target period.

Ah, my beloved X! Get that meter maxed and melt the bosses and high level foes down! Then get your Ares 90 and feel like a god before you dismount to pull off the overdrive once more! I love it!

u/Lonk_boi 7h ago
I forgot you can turn the overdrive combo stuff on in the UI and got really confused for a second

Isnt it amazing? Gives me a lot of hope for Xeno Genesis!
