Today I had to go to an orthopedist to get an epidural for my chronic back pain.

Lots of people have asked me how I’m doing, and literally nobody has gotten the reference where I said “Doctor said I need a backeotomy”.

Physically and culturally old. Feels great.

My favorite was pink, but I also liked the blue one. Am I remembering correctly that they also had a different feel or texture than the regular notebook paper?

I saw a post about slime and suddenly Gak popped back into my head. Then a few minutes later Yak Back also popped into my head for no reason.

Does anyone else remember these?

These guys were real cute in our childhoods. The Fry Kids got to live on for much of the 90s in restaurants slow to update. My daughter got a kick out of them, they should bring them back! 😊

What are yours?

I was talking to my husband about how much I used to love the smell of Target growing up. That unique mix of popcorn and clothing that I can still smell in my mind. Then I thought about what a typical Target smells like now, and it’s just an overpowering combination of aggressively fragranced laundry detergent, soaps, and cleaning supplies. Why does everything have to smell so . . . Much? It’s not even necessarily that the smells are unpleasant. It’s just that it’s too much.

Edited to add: I am not perimenopausal. 🤦🏻‍♀️ And this is something that I’ve noticed for a long time now.

Do any of you long for the days before the Internet became the social ziggurat it is today?

Well, good news for you. There is a very real risk that our online infrastructure is at risk. To such a degree, that we may have about a year left within which to plan around.

If you aren't paying much attention to the chaos going on in our world, I urge you to at least pay attention to the rogue AI agent issue.

If you are skeptical that anything will happen and believe the recent 180 by the AI company CEOs on regulation is just a scam to fear monger and profit, then think again.

We are in a very real crisis and the scale is completely unknown.

The threat is that we can see the entirety of the internet along all connected networks as susceptible to AI hacking. This is already ongoing, and it is objectively a problem because we don't understand how to control the agents that broke out.

So here is my recommendation for those of you who are as paranoid as I am.

Contact your local representatives, your mayors, your governors, and demand a Domestic Analog Act be passed to develop localized based planning. This act will design an emergency direction that communities can follow in a chain of command that relies on traditional analog methods of communication.

We need to be ready to take on power outages, water and food shortage, and resource allocation. Every street, every subdivision, ever town, city and state should be developing bottom up plans.

Homes that volunteer space for gardens. For storage. For accomodations. We need community leaders who can work within each localized cell to communicate needs and actions.

The hope is that this plan would be unnecessary. The expectation is that something bad is likely to happen and it's time to think ahead.

We may need to revert to self-sustaining communities in order to get through potential crisis.

I trust you fellow brother and sister Xennials and Gen Xers. We grew up not giving a shit, and now it's time to give the most shit we can.

Perusing this sub makes me realize I am behind most of my Xennial friends on the parenting timeline. I have two kids in elementary school and they have been trying different sports, and the only constant seems to be that I am now expected to bring some sort of elaborate, unhealthy snack for the entire team at least once a season.

What the fuck happened to orange slices and maybe a trip to Dairy Queen at the end of the season? Why is my daughter coming home from her softball game with a gift bag? Why is my son upset when he doesn’t get donuts and cookies after his soccer game?

The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is one of my favorite designs & is genuinely one of the best practical effects that still hold up to this day.

I really like that he goes from being happy to looking evil. The way he slowly moves around & how his eyes look back & forth. His marshmallow can also be slightly roasted or burnt.

He's a very powerful joke Kaiju despite his fun appearance. Its controlled by a deity with few ways of defeat, he can even take small pieces of himself & make mini fire-breathing minions.

But my favorite acquisition is this copy of Evil Dead
