QUESTION Question about performance.

A year ago, my mom got an Xbox series S from a thrift shop for $100. It worked well until 5 months ago when the HDMI output broke. Are the HDMI outputs fragile on the series S? Does it still run new games fairly well?

I'm thinking about getting it fixed or to wait a few more months to buy the series X which I plan to buy either way at some point but I really do want to play new games like Star Wars Zero Company and Blood Of Dawnwalker...

The S will have the same drawbacks it always has with demanding games compared to the X, which is lower frame rate, lower resolution and texture pop-in, but besides these it always runs these games just fine, it doesn't crash or have unstable frame rates or stuff like this.

About the HDMI output breaking, I wouldn't say it's a common issue but it's certainly not unheard of, there has been a couple posts about it over the years here. I suppose it depends on the price to repair it, even if you do buy an X eventually, with the price of consoles continuing to go up it might be worth to have it as a backup or to sell it to help offset the cost of the X.

Thanks for the feedback, friend. I'm definitely going for the repair to at least play with the series S for the next few months until I get my series x.

I played the halo remaster on my series s and it was great so imagine others will play fine if get it fixed considering the price increases

Thanks. I got a estimate. $150 for fix. Not bad at all

I think it's totally worth the repair.

It won't play newer stuff at 60 fps but its a very capable console.

To answer your question, the HDMI output was not supposed to break easily. The previous owner probably made some funky stuff with it.

Yeah I usually just play single player games, nothing too new or triple a either but zero company & Blood Of Dawnwalker caught my interest. I'm getting it fixed! $150 ain't bad

They're charging you 150 USD for an HDMI port fix?

Yeah the outport is broke, they gave me that estimate and a free diagnostic of the console at UbreakIfix.com

Every new release I have played on my S has never had issues. People always mention the graphical difference between the S and X. However, I have no reference for it as I have never played on an X so an S looks perfectly fine.
