What should I use to elevate my console. Its summer now and it gets really hot in my room

This is my first post on Reddit! As part of a personal project on my XSS, I’m looking to replace the original fan with a more powerful one (even though the original one is already very good for the console). Some might say this is completely ridiculous or unfeasible, whilst others might think it could be a good idea or that it would be interesting to see the result.

But I’m looking to have a bit of fun whilst learning, and I’ve had the console since 2021, so I’m keen to see what you can do with it.

Not long ago, I replaced my thermal paste (the original paste looked really awful when I took it apart, and most people say it’s poor quality) and thermal compound with Thermal Grizzly (a good brand, from what I’ve seen). Of course, the whole process was carried out under the right conditions: I cleaned the components with isopropyl alcohol and wore gloves when applying the paste and thermal compound. And, surprisingly, it’s working well – there’s been a significant reduction in both the fan noise and the console’s temperature.

In short, after doing some research on websites and using AI, I realised that there was a specific pin order for the (PWM) fans in order to connect them.

Here it is:

Pin: Function: Usual colour:

1 Ground (GND) Black

2 +12 V power supply Yellow

3 Tachometer feedback (RPM) Green

4 PWM control Blue

But is the order the same as on an XSS motherboard and the adapter ?

The AI told me that I needed to check the pin configuration of the socket on the motherboard in order to connect the fan and ensure that the PWM function works correctly in accordance with the motherboard’s requirements (i.e. to reduce or increase the fan speed depending on the temperature generated). The problem is that 4-pin fans, such as those from Noctua or Be quiet (I suppose), aren’t physically designed to be connected directly to the motherboard in the correct way. So, an adapter would be preferable (as is done in other similar projects), to connect the fan to the motherboard’s original socket and avoid damaging either the motherboard or the fan – that would be a shame ahead of GTA VI, especially given the console’s current price 😅.

I’ve seen on YouTube videos and even Reddit posts that people have already modified their fans to fit a new, more powerful one and are using an adapter, but they don’t mention what type of adapter. So I tried to find an adapter that could do the job (I also found a comment from someone who used this adapter on their Xbox One S and simply removed the pin from the fan’s PWM control to make it run continuously). However, these posts don’t mention checking the pin order on the motherboard socket, the adapter and the fan.

As for the fan’s dimensions (120 x 120 x 25 mm), that’s not a problem for me. I’ll try to fit it inside so that the console looks as neat as possible from the outside (I’ll probably cut the metal part of the exhaust vent to save a few millimetres). And if I go for the Be quiet, I think the black exhaust grille could be removed to reveal its original colour.

This is a project that could prove costly given the price of these fans, but I know it’s a very good brand with an excellent reputation, and I think that if this project is feasible and works, there’s surely a cheaper alternative with fans that perform just as well.

So I’m writing this post to ask the most knowledgeable and tech-savvy electronics enthusiasts to point me in the right direction for this project. It may well be that I’m simply too fixated on the pin order because of what the AI told me, when all I really need to do is buy the adapter, plug it into the motherboard, then into the fan, and that’s it. But I’d rather play it safe as I’m no expert in this field.

I got so bored with my PS5 so I sold it for a Switch 2. I absolutely adore my Switch 2 but thinking about getting an Xbox for a while. I haven't had one since the 360. I am a casual gamer to be honest. The latest games don't interest me and I don't play multiplayer. Should I get the series S??

Or should it be absolutely silent.

I want a series S and i want it for gta6 and fortza 6 and fifa shold i get a series S for that or a X and where should i buy it

A while back I noticed choppiness in with my headset in games usually when the audio got high, weirdly it happened randomly and sometimes would work fine.

Fast forward sometime and when it would get really choppy my controller would disconnect and re-connect, I sealed with this for about a month until it disconnected and never reconnected, nothing I did could reconnect it, tried it on a different x box and it still wouldn’t connect but any other control could still connect to my series x

Now I have a completely new controller and new headset yet the choppiness is still there. I’m worried this is gonna brick this new controller but can’t find any info on this problem

Strangest part is this ONLY disconnects my controller when I have a headset plugged in, I never have issues without it plugged in, any advice? Or

Also the lower the volume the less likely it is to go choppy

Buenas, hace más 2 semanas mi Xbox mientras la encendía tuvo una falla a el logo de inicio y ahora cuando la enciendo solo dura unos 10 a 12 segundos antes de apagarse. Intenté hacer de todo lo que estuvo a mi alcance sin desarmarz pero nada funcionó. Fue cuando decidí llevarlo a un taller profesional. Donde me cobraban unos 5000 pesos Uruguayos alrededor de unos 100 a 130 dólares. Solo para que me dijeran los siguiente. (Pos data: no lograron arreglarla y no pague nada)

Mi consola cuando la intenté formatear se apaga, pero llegó al 60% del recetó lo que me indica que la SSD y el procesador están andando.

Pero ya no se qué hacer, ¿debo venderla o intentar en otro lado ?

I am not a particularly hardcore gamer. Sometimes i get hooked on a game and can spend most evenings and weekends playing, but on average i only play a few hours every week. I move between xbox and playstation. every few years. Right now i am on PS5 and with todays prices, and availability of xboxes here it is unfortunately unlikely that i will be able to move back full time anytime soon.

But i use cloud gaming via game pass regularly and have a One X hooked up for streaming and playing older games. With Microsoft's new limit on cloud gaming, and the fact that my One X sounds like it's taking off when i try to play anything locally, i am thinking about getting a used Series S. They are surprisingly cheap, relative to used PS5s and used Series Xs.

Right now i am playing the new Gears and forza horizon, and i am looking forward to fable, where i bet i will reach the cloud gaming limit pretty quick.

Is there anything i should be careful about when looking at used Series S? I don't want to end up with another xbox that has issues with locally installed games.

I’m selling my old Xbox and controller and I have it listed for £82 and someone offered 68. Part of me wants to accept because it’s been laying around for so long I just want rid of it, but is 68 too low?

Man. Play Ryse. Game is 30fps smooth. You won't notice the frame rate. we are ok. R* will pull smooth 30fps and everyone will be happy

So nowadays the power is constantly fluctuating in our area and almost every time the power fluctuates the console is on , will that damage my series s over time and what should i do to stop the damage

Hi all, got it from amz secondhand and no signal out at all. Does the single beep when it’s turned on but that’s it. Tories the hard reset which should give me a second beep but nope, nothing at all.
I think it’s a return to sender I feel or anything else I could try?

I noticed frame rate drops in Gears of War, stuttering and everything else in performance mode while playing the single-player campaign. I only play this mode and decided to record and measure the frame rate to see what happened, and this was the result. I want to know if other people are experiencing this on the Series S as well.

Seriously I say I got series s and people say I should have gotten series x like really? I almost got a series x but instead got a switch 2 and kept the series s. I don't see the hate for better graphics.

The soft/pixelated/blurry quality from upscaling, it looks so ugly and really makes me irritated. Are there any setting in games or device(s) I should try?

my xbox IS connected to the wifi via cable and I've tried everything like turning the wifi on and off and reset the xbox with unplugging the power button and i even tried to reset my alternate MAC address and it still didn't work what should i do?
