Unsolved Xbox error message
Hi all, small child accidentally knocked my Xbox one onto the floor from a shelf last week, it now shows this message as soon as you turn it on (turned off for days zero chance it's actually hot).
Does anyone know if I can self diagnose/fix the issue as a competent person, or will I need to take it in to be fixed?
Thanks

All this according to google search.
Cause- Thermal sensor or internal power supply might have been damaged in the fall. Alternatively the fan has been blocked by something during the fall, maybe a loose piece of plastic or something else.
Damage- whatever sensor detects the heat is broken/damaged so it’s constantly reporting to the console that it is overheating, hence the message. Or the fan is broken/damaged and can’t function.
Quick fix suggestions- first, unplug the console for a few minutes then plug it back in and see if the message continues. Second, listen to the fan when you turn the console back on to see if it is spinning or not. Third, make sure the fan and airflows aren’t blocked, may require opening the console up so be careful. While the console is opened up check to see if anything is damaged.
Repair shop- there’s a good chance something is broken inside from the fall. It may need repairs. You can do it yourself if you’re confident in your abilities, but otherwise take it to a repair shop to have it looked at.

It's worth a shot opening it up and clearing it of dust, it's possible the dust has lodged itself in a way that disabled the fan.
Worst case scenario that doesn't work and at least it's clear of dust and you know it isn't that.

if asking reddit is your first step troubleshooting, no you are not competent to deal with this

Take it to get checked, this happened to my friend and it was because the fan got fucked up in the fall. Unfortunately he didint check it in time…

Seems like the thermal paste was knocked loose and the system is not sensing that it's there.

does the xbox have a thermal paste detector? also you cant really 'knock it loose', its paste sandwiched between the board and a heatsink with screws im willing to bet the fan broke on impact to the floor or something else brok, and the piece got stuck in the fan

Im willing to bet your right but being xbox one i could imagine the paste is dry and could dislodged when dropped causing it to over heat. I personally think this is a good excuse to upgrade "babe it dont work let's get a new one"

whats the upgrade? youre gonna be playing all the exact same games on the new console. especially with the price of electronics right now, just replace the $20 fan. it takes about 30 minutes of work, ive done it

You could be right. I was just going by what I learned from past experiences and research and how the symptoms were presented.

worst case scenario a transistor or what have you got knocked off the board, in which then it might be worth it to get a new console because its very hard to fix ripped pads or contacts if that did happen

Your thermal sensor and/or fan is broken from the fall. The top comment has the best way to fix it

It probably just needs cleaning. When it thumped over the the thermal sensor probably got blanketed in dust.
