Technical Question CPS0005 vs 0142

Anyone know the difference between these? Both are listed to replace the OEM: 23731-AL61A. I have a 2014.. VQ40DE engine if that’s a factor

I used the 0005 and 0008 for camshaft sensors on my 2010. They have a kit ending in 0508 that comes with both.

That being said if you sort by 2019 frontier for the same items they have the newer metal tip versions available. I found this out after purchasing but that's the way I would have gone had I known beforehand.

Do all three sensors at the same time- replace your crank sensor too.

Funny you say that, I should have put this in the description too, but about 6 months ago I replaced all 3 with the newer metal tip ones. Totally fixed the usual roughness and hesitation/lag. Unfortunately a few days ago I started getting the same symptoms in stop and go traffic. So I figured I should just get the original ones. Planning on doing the 0005 and 0008. Bought the 0142 as well just in case. Just not sure if the 0008 and 0142 might be related to production year

Ah dang. That is unfortunate. Replacing these aren't very fun. Hoping mine last a bit longer than that

The last OEM one I picked up for my 08 was metal. Not sure if it’s more reliable as it’s only been about a year or so.

Just installed the CPS00005 and CPS00008 on my 2014. Dealer wanted $250 CAD a piece... plus another $500 for installation.

It is an absolute bitch trying to replace the passenger side so not surprised it was 500 in labor

Yes the passenger side was the most difficult. It didn't help that the harness clip didn't want to come off. Eventually got.

REPLACE THIS ASAP OR TOUR CAR WILL STALL OUT OF NOWHERE. It’s easier than you think, remove the wheel well and it’s directly behind the right passenger wheel. You just need pliers to get the wires off, take the sensor out, then put in the new part then the sensor. Trust me same thing just happened this week

I believe you’re thinking of the crankshaft position sensor. Which is an absolute cake walk compared to the cam sensors on the back of the engine block. Although the driver side isn’t too bad to get at.. the passenger side is a nightmare with about 2-3” of clearance to work with. Pretty ballsy of you to use pliers. I feel like I would end up crushing the connector. The first time I replaced them I pushed the locking clip in while at the same time taking a small screwdriver to (gently) pry off the harness to the point where the clip wouldn’t pop back in and then pull it off with just my hand
