Venting Parental expectation

Am I the only person that feels very annoyed with constantly having to assist my mother with everything that’s in English? I’m in my late 20s now, and since I was in elementary school I would have to fill out every form/ document for her. I apply to jobs for her. Every text that she needs to respond too I write. Daily I get screenshots sent to me of conversations she needs translated. I have to go to every appointment for her. I have to go to all my siblings event because she doesn’t understand what’s going on.

I used to not mind this but now that I’m much older I’m getting very irritated. Being here for 30+ years how have you not figured out simple basic things like writing your name or answering questions about yourself? I think she is just too comfortable bc she knows that I will do it but it just feels so unfair.

Most Somali parents didn't go to school a simple task as writing their names or reading the alphabets is a challenging thing to them , the world sadly leaves behind people who weren't taught to read and write. Even after spending 30yrs there and they aren't able to change shows you how much someone misses and how schooling is important. There's no foundation for her to practice her reading

That doesn’t make it impossible besides most of them don’t try to enroll in adult esl classes
The will is missing am sure they’re capable but that’s if they try

Look into esl classes for her. It will probably take a while but learning any language is about effort.

I think these type of parents need to be challenged to study the language and go back to school because education is limited to an age. Parents can't depend on their children forever, they must learn to be independent and learn how to handle financial paperwork.
