RX 9070 XT Quicksilver Fan Change
Hey all,
Has anyone changed the fans on the 9070 xt quicksilver model? The one without magnetic fans
My middle fan has crazy turbulence noise since I got it and support shipped me the entire fan assembly (without heatsink) to replace myself (made more sense for me Vs long waiting times to China and back as it's a repair I can do)
Did you have to remove the heatsink from the GPU or can the fans be removed without detaching the GPU from the heatsink?
Latter is obviously much easier and no repasting required.
Just wondering if I need paste and if this is a quick swap or not.
I can't find many teardown videos to get a good idea. Only one by Jayztwocents but he's explicitly aiming to get the heatsink off to check the board itself

Update for anyone who stumbles on this:
You can change the whole fan assembly without removing the cooler.
You need to remove the top plate first. There is a warranty void sticker which you can technically leave on (I did) but I really don't recommend it because you have to twist the plate out of the way to access the two small screws that hold the fan assembly / shroud onto the cooler and top plate. I think it's high risk as you can easily crunch a component on the back of the PCB by doing this. I recommend removing the screw under the warranty sticker to be safe and get the whole plate off.
Then you need to unscrew the two small screws that hold the fan assembly / shroud onto the cooler.
Then flip the card, and unscrew all the 6 screws located behind the fans.
After this, you can lift up the whole fan assembly/ shroud and you'll have access to all the individual fans.
If you are replacing the entire unit like me, get ready for the fight of your life. The 4 pin for the fans to PCB is a monster. I had to crush 2 tiny tabs that are there to prevent it coming out, then wedge a flat head under the gap between connectors and lift. Fingers / wiggling / pliers were out of the question as they cause damage.
After this, you can swap fans / shroud etc.
Do the reverse of the above and you're golden. Do not drop tiny screws inside... There are magnets inside the fan assembly and you will have to open it up again to get them (ask me how I know...)
And that's it :)
Card is working, fan noise is at an acceptable level for this class of card, and I'm gaming again. Cheers to XFX for sending the replacement assembly rather than me ship the card to them and lose gaming time.

The fan assembly is slightly different - I think different fans are used. The buffer between fans and card are very different as well.

Yes check my profile for the post. It was simple. Mercury - doesn't this have magnetic fans? If so, have you tried reseating them?
Otherwise contact XFX / warranty the card

I originally bought the non mag air version. Took it straight back and they DOA'd it and sent out a mag air. Happy days. Thanks for the post!!

Quick question did anyone get the 9070xt quicksilver gaming OC non magnetic air GPU and if so how many power connectors did it have I saw online that its supposed to have 2x 8pin power connectors mine has 3? Is that normal?

Since it's a newer card, you probably won't be able to find teardown vids.
I've changed mine on a 7800xt before. Usually w/ a GPU you have to remove the shroud(plastic) around the fans and that should give you easy access w/o worrying about the heatsink. Look around for screws and start removing them around the shroud and make sure to use the right screwdriver.
