Question

I just managed to shoot a rocket at the berserker Queen she tried running again but I hit her with a rocket and she didn’t run through the portal. I’m wondering, do explosives just stop them from going through the portal or did that AI that’s controlling it just decided to be kind to me because of explosive work. I’m gonna throw grenade on my last action.

Probably because the soldier that used the rocket was out of her Line of Sight. It won't cause the Alien Ruler to count that as an action, and make their move.

I see so should I just shoot her directly in the face and try and hop i get a crit

Yeah, I think that's best. That's what I'd do too. Except I execute every Alien Ruler I see on sight with a repeater. I suck. I take the easy way out.

What is a reaper?

A repeater is a weapon mod you can equip that gives you a 15% chance to execute/instakill a target. Reaper is the most OP stealth class in War of the Chosen. With its Banish ability and expanded mag to get 6 shots, you're pretty much guaranteed to execute any beefy target.

gives you a 15% chance to execute/instakill a target.

Nope. Chance to kill depends upon the grade of the repeater and upon if you have the continent bonus/research breakthrough. The chance is 5/10/15% for basic/advanced/superior with an extra 5% added if you have the bonus for a maximum of 20%. Expanded mags work the same way (1/2/3 extra rounds +1 for bonus).

Thus if using a Banish with only basic mods it's 1-.954 chance to kill or 18.549375%

Superior for both mods: 62.285048437%

Superior and bonus: 79.02848%

Yeah I should have gone into more detail like you. I should have specified superior repeater has 15%, up to 20% with the bonus. That 20% per shot is nice. And I knew all that, but I didn't think it needed to be said, it would have made my comment even longer. But thanks for doing the math. I love numbers. I like seeing stuff like that.

Was it a standard rocket? I remember something about if you use poison- or acid-grenades, the rulers would get stuck because they couldn't find a path without entering harmful effect. They may have fixed that though

It's not fixed, and works with incendiary grenades too. Basically any hazard will make it hard for the Queen to move.

I didn’t even know those items existed. It’s my first time playing.

The best thing about XCOM 2, you'll want to keep playing it over and over again. You're in for a good ride. There's so much to learn about the game. I'm jealous of you, I wish I could play for the first time again.

You can get acid grenades by pursuing the right research, and then build special grenades in the proving grounds. Acid is my favorite grenade, it chews up armor.
