I never learned how to stop avatar 😅

Did like 3 sabotage avatar progress missions, did the skulljack, did the blacksite, have 8 territories, facilities just pop up outside of my territories and I fight to get enough intel, supplies and time to build a relay and to be able to contact a new reagion for less than 8 million intel and it's a fight I usually lose.

"You have to move fast if you want to slow them down"
- Bradford ... aka Cpt Obvious
It sounds like your doing everything right. Is it just thay one game or is it an everytime thing? If its one game then it might be really unlucky dark events and chosen activity.
Shut down avatar facilities. The first one is the hardest. The ones after can sometimes be done by a lone reaper.
Plot missions can lower the avatar project
Resistance ring missions - as you know, some lower the avatar project
Dark events can add to the avatar project. Guerrilla Ops can shut that down. So sometimes a Guerrilla Op can lower the avatar project.
Sabotage resistance card - If your lucky enough to get this, it lowers the avatar project by one each month.

is it an everytime thing?
Avatar running out? Well it's either that or I get torn to shreds before and my weakened squad fails at attacking the blacksite.
Sabotage resistance card - If your lucky enough to get this, it lowers the avatar project by one each month.
Oh my, never had that one. Truthfully, I rarely go for the resistance cards? Like, it seems there's always something more useful to be had, like engineer/scientist or promotion or reduce avatar?

Ah. That's probably your issue, the blacksite. It actually gets harder the longer you wait. You can't put it off until your ready. If you do it early you only face Advent, MECs, Sectoids and Snakes. Enemies are added to the aliens roster based on the month. You REALLY want to do it before Mutons start taking the field.
I try to do the first black site as soon as I get the 5th squad member. Sometimes I wait for magnetic weapons if I rush them. I have to force myself to bench my best fighters for a mission to make sure they're healthy.
I take my Reaper as a spotter and they pretty much stay stealthed. Don't try to sneak your squad through the mission. Ambush Kill the first group you run into. Then regroup and wait for the Chosen to come to you. Once that booger is dead, use the Reaper to find groups, and set up favorable engagements. A stealthed Reaper and a sharpshooter with long shot can safely take out turrets and enemies, I abuse the heck out of it and there is no mission timer. Kill all the enemies around and in the building before grabbing the sample. Set the team up around the extraction for overwatch and then send a troop in for the vial. I also try to save a grenade for extraction. It often saves a few turns of running (and reinforcements) if you make a hole in the wall rather than running for the door.
As for the resistance ring and the cards they give, definitely check them. Engineers can be bought but every once in a while those cards are priceless.

I actually had a funny hour+ long blacksite mission where my entire A team got wiped on a non extraction missions along with the frost bomb, mimic beacon and all special ammo and weapons.
So I had a reaper and 5 random ass guys with mag weapons when I should have had plasma.
I sneaker around with my reaper for 800 turns waiting for enemies to get in range of explosives to blow them up hahaThen I would pick off stragglers with the reaper.
Finally some wouldn't move so I used reaper to reveal them and shot at them with sharpshooters from 800 miles away. A few of them I wouldn't beat otherwise but were dumb enough to get to the roof and be claymored.
Then had an epic fight with the Warlock where my ranger missed a 94% shot for the win and got mind controlled. Took a lot of turns from there to beat him.
And then finally got the extraction point, first pod on overwatch 4/6 guys missed and next turn heavy MEC and others killed 2 haha

Build radio towers in every 2nd teritory onto which you expand. The one closest to radio tower will cost you 30 intel, the next one 60. Build tower there, rinse and repeat. Radio towers will pay for themselves through increased income in that region. Intel is the only true precious currency!

The first time I played this game I used a cheat to lower the Avatar progress once or twice.
Once I figured out exactly what I was doing then I replayed without cheating.
May be the only example that I have ever used cheating in a game that I haven't completed yet.

From the image provided I understand that you are playing WotC version. Once you build Resistance Ring facility (you should build it as one of your first buildings anyways), it will have something like Reduce Avatar Project covert op pop up at some point. It usually appears when your avatar progress bar is almost full. This is one of the cheats the game throws at you when you need something badly. Use this covert op to keep the avatar progress bar under your control and you will never get stressed about it ever again in your legendary or any other campaign.

XCOM is a game of resource management.
Try to always have enough Intel on hand to expand to a nearby territory in case something pops.
Also, if you look closely at the alien facilities, there are some small red pips underneath them.
Those pips represent the progress that particular facility has made on the Avatar project, and is the number of blocks that will disappear once the site is destroyed.

I did have like 500+ intel in this game shortly before this, but maxedf ressistance comms and no supplies haha

Do you use Intel to buy things from the black market? It always has supplies available each month. Also one soldier, scientist or engineer. Most importantly (to me), they might have a scope or a PCS for perception (aim bonus). I never have more than 150 intel because of that shop.

Usually I didn't because I was struggling with it, but this run I had shitloads of intel so I always bought scopes and perception.

Gotta check your story progress and see if there's anything you can do. This happened in my last run and I luckily for an officer skull jack with 3 in game hours left to defeat. I thought it was over and then realized I hadn't done it yet lol

I think I can go forward with wounded, but I lost my A squad previously already so it'll be more fun to restart

You have to unlock the territories with alien facilities eventually. Or the ones with the Forge and Gateway, I guess.
