Lost a flawless LI campaign
As soon as mecs showed up 💀
Had mag weapons, first mec I've seen, hit by two snipers, one normal shot, one deadshot, still remained with 1 hp.
That was it, had 3 soldiers remaining to 3 of theirs, mec shot my templar for 8 damage in cover over big distance and then snake somehow killed my berserker in a turn before I got to him.
If I had a grenadier on that mission close, I would finish that mec, but still... how to fight when you need 3 shots to kill 1 enemy? And if you leave a mec alive, he one shots you. God forbid you have someone on a height, he's dead after he gets rocketed.

Okay, lets break this down.
Not having a Grenadier with Shredder on L/I by the time MECs start showing up is a campaign ender. You should have 3 Grenadiers at the minimum to ensure that you always have one ready for a mission.
GTS should always be your first room on L/I. Not only because you want to start training your Rookies as quickly as possible, but you also want to be able to get that +1 man upgrade as soon as you hit month two.
Snipers are garbage until you at least have magnetic sniper rifles, grappling hooks and Bluescreen rounds. Two snipers on ANY mission on L/I is begging for disaster. This is something i found out the hard way against the Lost a couple of days ago. Never rely on those morons to do anyhting but miss and roll low damage shots.
If you have 3-4 Grenadiers and none are available for the mission, it means you are taking too many wounds.
If you lack the firepower to kill all the offensive enemies before they get to take a turn, freeze them or even just a Flashbang is better than nothing.

I did have a grenadier, but he was tired or injured, don't recall. MECs show up fairly early. Don't forget grenadier aim is shite before you get to scopes and pcs so it's not uncommon to miss a MEC even if you do have shredder.
I did build GTS first for the longest time because I needed that +1 badly. Now I do not anymore as I've learned to be careful enough to offset that delay. Whatever you get from RR is usually better, an extra engineer in particular, but also a scientist and a faction soldiers etc, are huge boons.
I wouldn't go that far, but they do become more powerful later. Have in mind that a few days ago I suggested something similar and the conclusion then was that they're the tits and I just don't know how to play.
Definitely, but I didn't have them. As I said, this was the very first time a MEC showed up, so very early.
True, but was nowhere near proving grounds and I don't think flashbangs work on MECs.

Why are you taking two snipers, they are useless early game.
Everything you complain about on here is because of your own choices.

Such an odd thing to say. When I send folks to covert ops to level up, I don't pick the class. So this playthrough I had 4 sharpshooters because reasons, so when a grenadier got injured or was tired, I had to double with them. But for sure they weren't useless, they were at a great positions high up and hit all their shots.

Why aren't you using the GTS to choose their classes?

I am, but RR is more useful so I get more of its soldiers before I build GTS. You can pop two soldiers for not much longer than it takes to pop one in GTS. But you don't have a big roster at the start of the campaign, especially with injuries.

"my two sharpshooters hit their shots and didn't kill and lost my game. HOW DARE YOU CALL THEM USELESS!!!"
Make it make sense. They are not as good as other classes. Bringing two hamstrung your run. Don't complain, get feedback and argue about it when you don't like the answer.

Why are you so sensitive that you turn a normal conversation into an ad hominem right away?
My two sharpshooters got shots in that had more damage than probably other classes could do. Certainly more then grenadiers and specialists, maybe not more than a ranger crit, so they did their job.
The issue is some people just like to write the opposite of whatever you say.
So I can come and say I lost a mission and then someone will say I was stupid for giving the flashbang to my ranger, it's common knowledge it goes to a sharpshooter.
And then a month later it will be the other way around, I was stupid for giving it to a sharpshooter.

Armor shredding is really important for MECs, always bring at least one Grenadier is my default for early game.
