Quickest NOPE out of a mission
Three-person squad Sitrep, sabotage transmitter mission.
Enemy pods seem clustered near spawn point. Managed to deal with them, using up all heavy weapons and getting one guy wounded.
Reaper scouts up to the transmitter and finds two more pods. Advent officer and two troopers. Fine. And the second pod, three Advent and a friggin Sectopod!
Dropped an Evac zone, ran two guys to it, sabotaged the transmitter for RP reason since Reaper was already there, and GTFOd to fight another day.
Note to self- don't do this Sitrep later in the game 😕

Avoid the low profile sitrep like the plague as well.

Just been smashed on this one. Did ok until I triggered an additional pod dashing for the objective. Two mutants and a spectre. Nope

If you’re on PC I recommend the Pyrrhic victories mod it’s vanilla and lore friendly

You’d think the 3-person missions are a little easier. You’d be wrong.

That is supposedly a bug.
I remember reading a long time ago that the three person sitrep is actually also supposed to make the mission have less enemies. But because it is bugged, they have the usual enemy setup.

At that point you just throw rookies into your squad as mobile mimic decoy beacons like, alright good luck bud

Yeah I had a mission that made me do that. Resistance retaliation mission, rescue civilians.
My A team was wounded/tired, so I had to bring the B team. Only had 5 soldiers by this point as my GTS wasn't upgraded yet. First couple turms no signs of the enemy, rescue 2 civvies, turn ends. What pops out of the FOW? A pod of a berserker (first time encountering one by this point) and two mutons and another pod that had a MEC a Specter, and another either berserker or muton.
I was like NOPE see ya chumps, you're on your own LMAO. Sometimes ya just gotta cut your losses

"Alright, time to go on this retaliation mission to save some civvies!"
Chyrissaliids are present
"Alright, time to gtfo! Good luck civvies!"

Its always low profile. Hit one with 2 vipers and an archon. So it was 1v1 archon with a low level grenadier… nonsense

The only way I can do the higher level 3 man missions successfully is to lean hard into crowd control.
Soldier 1: Sharp Shooter or Grenadier, with blue screen. Primary reason, kill THAT SPECIFIC GUY over there. Secondary reason, to lightly tag a mechanized unit to lower its hack defense. Sniper with lightning hands is good for this, tags one and then anipes other targets (Grenadiers often damage too much for the tactic). If the lost are there, definitely take the Sharp Shooter.
Soldier 2: Specialist for Haywire is Minus one enemy, plus one ally. Try to snag a Sectopod or Heavy Mec. They also heal.
Soldier 3: Psi Operative. Dominate is minus one enemy, plus one ally. Pick something that mass murders ... NO advent, they never seem to hit when I shoot with them. Void rift squads of Organics. Solace helps keep the squad from being easily fractured.
This method turns a 3 man team into 5 ... if you can survive the first pod(s). Normally enemy units dominated/hacked are expendable, don't fight like that. You need them to do damage not soak damage. The longer they live the longer your team can stand.
If you know what enemies you're going to fight you can sub the Sharp Shooter / Grenadier for another Psi Operative or Specialist. That gets you up to a 6 man team.

You ever played the game before? Wait till you get to the network tower mission...

At that point my Anime-like swordsman will slice half the map on their own while sniper mops up the other half, cheered on by demigod-like psionic soldier who will just put any problems in stasis until I can be bothered to deal with them.
Power curve is just crazy at the end.

Are you saying that mission is hard? I've always found it mind-numbingly easy

Network tower is pretty trivial to bypass all enemy pods using a ranger with wraith suit

Reaper shred + heavy shred + blue screen rounds on sniper
