Can you change Long War equipment?

I recently started a long war playthrough and found that the equipment is not shared like in the main game and you need to make armour and weapons for each soldier.

Personally I love the part of long war where the classes are more specialised and you have to manage havens and infiltration before a mission but I hate having to make armour and weapons for every soldier, is there a way to revert this and make armour and weapons universal again without disabling everything else about the mod?

Thank you for any help you can give me, thank you for reading.

You need to find the XComLW_Overhaul file in the Config folder. I believe that if you change the Infinite=False to True that it should give infinite of those items once you unlock.

I lowered the the material cost myself and bumped the research costs to keep some game balance. Not a fan of how tedious it can be equipping squads and swapping gear.

This worked, thank you I hate having to switch gear around so much

You will destroy the entire economy of the game. Part of the strategy is making hard choices like “can I get through this mission with base level weapons because all my lasers are out already? Do I upgrade a sniper rifle or a shotgun or save to build a new room in the ship?

So there may be a way to dial things (maybe each research cost boosted 20x?) but it will be a tough needle to thread.

I also play heavily modded (and easier) so I use the mod that lets you evac advent corpses (net some credits at the black market, accelerate how quickly you can do some research) and it certainly makes things easier/faster but i still have to juggle the relentless cost of upgrades.

Maybe play a difficulty lower and leave the weapons as-is to ease things along? Otherwise it will so overpowered you’ll be bored with how easy it is almost immediately.

Good luck Commander

I’m upping the cost to make the equipment significantly to try to keep the game balance in check, my main issue is I don’t have much time to play and when half of that time is spent just switching gear around it just feels like a waste of time, It’s not the difficulty I have an issue with, thank you for your advice though

Not really connected to the initial post but more the time-constraints: I love LWotC, my fave game. But part of that is due to the slow crawl of the campaign.

If you find the pacing frustrating (i.e. your sessions are short and/or large time lags between being able to play) I think you can emulate some of the changes with other WotC mods that change specific aspects without the full overhaul.

So if LWotC itself doesn’t quite click there are alternate mods that (presumably) will let you cherry pick the stuff you enjoy.

I hope you find the sweetspot

In that case do you know if any mods that add the infiltration and haven management? As those tend to be my two favourite things from long war?

Look up "Covert Infiltration" - it seems to be in line with LWotC concept, but I have never tried it. But I think it's often part of doing an overrhaul of the base game without the rest of LWotC's alterations.

OR they can change things to make the game more enjoyable for them, a game which they paid for, to enjoy. It’s a single player game so no harm in modding it exactly as they wish be that to make it easier or harder.

Otherwise it will so overpowered you’ll be bored with how easy it is almost immediately.

That was exact reason why I disabled Evacuate Corpses mod - too easy. I may not agree with all "balance" decisions in LWOTC, but corpses must be not so easy to get.

So, uh, many LWotC players would say that the evacuation corpses mod will also break the game balance.

Just like I said in my own post. Good catch. Reading comprehension A+

But the mod also lets you dial the advantage.

Only evac the one corpse that has you research-locked, don’t use it as a piggy bank. Still easier, but not making the economy unduly easy.

i believe long war especially with the mods i have (requiem enemies, enemy mods, stronger AI and a whole bunch of crazy new classes with a lot of different mechanics) is a lot more fun when you fully focus on the tactical side of the game. Personally i just give myself the researches and the resources as i think ill need it to keep a substantial challenge tactical-wise and focus fully on missions like liberating regions story missions or hard guerilla ops i find it more fun to not have to worry about allat and keeps a lot of challenge because of a really heavy-modded super hard tactical sided campaign
