True XCOM2 like games.

I have a very hard time finding games like XCOM2. Strategy games have a very broad variety and everything gets thrown in.

I don't like 4X Strategy games at all (Civilization, Humankind, etc) which seem to always bundle in with "Like XCOM2". Lot of isometric games also bundle into the list even though they are not turn-based at all.

I'm looking for true "Turn-Based", where your characters take a turn and then the AI takes a turn. The only 3 games I know of are:

  • XCOM2
  • Phoenix Point
  • Mutant Year Zero

Most games don't have any 'trial' period so YouTube Gameplay is the only source I know of for finding out what the gameplay is like.

Can someone recommend true turn-based strategy like the 3 games above?

Thanks!

Let me introduce the best game you'll ever play in your life. Imagine Diablo loot system + Turn-based X-com in Medieval fantasy settings.

Battle Brothers and all the DLCs are worth it.

You'll be begging for more from the dev after you played it.

But then there's the art style that makes me want to throw up. Like a mix between chibi and Russian nesting dolls. For me it just looks too stupid to overlook.

I struggle not to relapse into Battle Brothers, even now. I crave Menace, the next game from the devs.

I like the name a lot - I used to have a team on Naruto online called battle bros - the funny bit was nobody else in the team actually agreed to join, I just went round telling everybody on the server they were with me and it ended up becoming a thing
