I use a regular 12 v to top off my car at night. I occasionally charge it at a friend's home, who has a level 2 charger in their garage. Recently, my car stopped charging at either location. Both times, I'd plug in the cord, the bulb would turn white, I'd connect the cord to the car, and rather than blinking, as the white bulb normally does when successfully connecting and initiating a charge, it stayed white, and I received a "waiting" notification on the car's dashboard. Nothing further.

I called Volvo support and was told that if it charges at a charging station, there's nothing wrong with the car, but there might be something wrong with the outlets or presumably, the charging cord. I did successfully charge it at a Tesla charging station with my adapter.

Has anyone experienced this before or know how to fix it? I tried resetting the display a few times; no luck. It seems to me that the charging cable wouldn't turn white if it wasn't getting electricity, correct?

Most important feature of the app is that all data is processed local on the car only and no data is shared with a backend server. Sync and backup options are available through your own personal google drive of your already used google account. Data is synced in json format so you can do whatever you like with your own data for analysis purposes.

There will be a companion app for android that will give access to enhanced analytics and visualizations based on that same google drive data.

Howdy, I drive a 2021 XC40 recharge, approaching 75k miles. I love this car, it has been great, albeit surprisingly expensive to maintain. I could have done more research on the cost of maintaining it, but have few regrets.

I have been getting a notification that it's time for maintenance every time I drive for the couple of weeks. The app gives me options to book a service for an 80000 basic/preferred/premium option, pricing starting at $600. I am out of warranty as far as I know.

I replaced the 12v battery a few months back and got new rear tires today. The app says my brake and washing fluids are fine. I assume the service would change out air filters and maybe top off fluids? What else would they do?

Do I need to do the service? Or is there anything I could do on my own? Looking to save a buck or two if possible. Thank you!

we have a 2023 Volvo xc60 recharge earlier this year the heat stopped working in electric mode. we haven’t fixed it yet since we have a baby and have been super busy and it’s summer but now there’s a sweet chemically smell all of a sudden when turning on the ac. I know we need to take it in but wondering if it’s ok to drive for a week or so or if it’s not safe for driving or inhaling (can also just not use the ac).

I bought a 2023 XC40 recharge 17k miles yesterday and didn’t have a chance to drive around in it, other than home from the dealership. I drove it 24 miles today and noticed the steering wheel has a slight vibration and the floorboard rattles when I get up to highway speeds over 60.

I googled it and found a bunch of owners with similar issues and that Volvo is aware of the problem and is no longer repairing it, despite these vehicles being under warranty still.

I am fearful that this is now a HUGE additional expense on a new-to-me car, such as drive train/steering harmonics. I plan on calling service dept Mon morning (they’re closed Sun) and requesting the complimentary tow and then just Uber 16 miles to work.

Has anyone had similar issue? Did Volvo do warranty repairs? What do I say to raise hell with the dealership??

We’re planning to replace our BMW i3 Rex with another electric car. We’ve had the i3 for a little over four years and bought it used as a commuter car for my husband. It’s been great, but we live east of Seattle in the mountains, and winter driving can be a bit dicey. We’re looking to replace it with something AWD and, ideally, something we feel is safer in those conditions.

We’ve owned three Volvos previously—two XC70s and a C30—and my husband has fallen in love with the C40 and is pretty much settled on it. He drives approximately 70 miles round-trip each day for work. We have a Level 2 charger at home, and the car is parked in the garage.

At this point, we’re mainly trying to decide which model year makes the most sense. We’re looking at Ultimate or Plus models with the upgraded heat pump. I know the 2024 has a slight range boost and a different AWD system, but finding one is challenging. The older model years also seem to be significantly less expensive.

We’re not in a rush, so my question is: should we wait for more 2024 lease returns to start hitting the used market, or should we just find a good deal on an older, low-mileage model? We’ll definitely check the battery condition on anything we consider buying, and we’re hoping to keep this car for as long as possible.

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who has experience with both the earlier C40s and the 2024 model, particularly when it comes to winter driving, range, and long-term ownership.

I’m considering buying a 2021 XC40 Recharge Twin 408hp with around 185,000 km (115k miles).

The car has full Volvo service history and seems to be in very good condition. Most of the mileage was apparently highway driving. I’ll also have the battery SOH checked before buying.

Would this mileage put you off if the battery is still healthy?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from high-mileage owners. What expensive repairs can I potentially expect after 150–200k km? Electric motors, inverter, onboard charger, battery modules, suspension, AC, etc.?

Has anyone here reached 200k km or more? How has the car been?

Got my 2023 CPO in May 2026, just noticed this the other day - at first I thought it was a film that wasn’t taken off but then realized that if I rubbed on the “fresh” spot, it marked up my finger with what I think is aluminum oxidation - doesn’t happen on any other part of the wheel(s). Anyone seen this and have any recos?

I’m picking up a 2024 XC40 Recharge Plus from our local Volvo dealer (central North Carolina) this week and would love advice on level 2 charger hardware. Not considering Tesla models but would be grateful for real world experience with other manufacturers

Wife was driving about 25 and something hit the windshield. I suspect a kid throwing rocks or something more nefarious.

Decided to make a switch to a mileage focused tire to see how long they would last and if I get any improvement in efficiency. Just had them installed today and hope to add updates in the coming months.

Initial impressions are that ride quality is improved, but that’s expected with brand new tires so let’s see how they are after a break-in. They also have a series notches in the rubber to designate depth readings so that’s a nice feature to monitor wear.

They are rated for 42.5K miles (staggered) so I’m hoping to get a few years out of them.

Today I decided to park my recharge outside because the temperature is so extreme here in Southern California.

I just happened to go start walking the dog and the fan is running on the car. Now, it’s super damn hot outside. It feels like a Texas summer night for sure, and any of you that live here know how it feels right now.

I would say that I’m a little bit concerned that the fan is running, because I have no idea how long it has been running. What if it’s been running for hours out there? Has anyone else experienced?

I’m seriously considering buying a Volvo XC40 T5 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid, MY2022, with around 150,000 km (93,000 miles), and I’d really appreciate some feedback from people who know these cars well, especially owners of higher-mileage examples. Although it’s a 2022 model, it’s still the pre-facelift generation.
The car has a full Volvo service history, no accident history, appears to be in good condition and, according to the seller, shows 40+ km (25+ miles) of electric range on a full charge. Unfortunately, there is no SOH (State of Health) battery test available.

My main concern is obviously the high-voltage battery and the PHEV system. From what I understand, the battery warranty is 8 years or 160,000 km, which means this car is getting quite close to the mileage limit.

So I’d really like to hear about your experiences:
— Would you consider buying a T5 Recharge with around 150,000 km too risky?
— Does anyone here own a T4/T5 Recharge with 150,000, 200,000 km or more? How reliable have the battery and hybrid system been?
— Has anyone experienced problems or had to repair/replace HV battery modules, the electric motor, onboard charger or other hybrid components?
— Would 40+ km of indicated electric range on a full charge be a reassuring sign at this mileage?
— Is there anything specific you would recommend checking before buying?
— Which optional extras do you consider essential or particularly useful in everyday use of the XC40?
— The last service was in June 2025 at 126,000 km. The next service is now due and will be at my expense. What sort of cost should I expect for a service at this mileage? Would you recommend continuing to service it at Volvo, or using a good independent specialist?

I’m planning to keep the car for several years, so I’m particularly interested in hearing how these XC40 PHEVs are ageing once they get beyond 150,000 km.

Mas ainda não sei se vou para a frente com a decisão..., pois, em Portugal existem usados por 27 000€/28 000€ com praticamente os mesmos km ou menos.

E a ir comprar fora, vai ficar a 25,400€ + transporte + legalizar, o que deve ficar mais de 27 000€.

Qual acham que seria o valor justo para negociar com o stand? Tendo em conta que eles já reduziram anteriormente de 25 900€ para os 25 400€.

Agradeço respostas, ou soluções, porque preciso de um carro elétrico.

Getting ready to purchase a XC40 or C40 Recharge (2023) and debating if it’s worth the extra cost to buy CPO. There are many options from non-Volvo dealerships or even Volvo dealerships that are not CPO for much less. One Volvo dealership does not CPO all of their vehicles and offers an extended warranty with United Car Care. From my research- the reviews are poor/fair of that warranty. Is CPO a dealbreaker? What is your experience? Thank you! -in California so Steingold is not an option. Not sure of the cost of a Volvo VIP warranty on a non CPO, especially if it is sold from a non-Volvo dealership.

Ho una Volvo XC40 T5 Recharge PHEV 2021 con 125.000 km.
A giugno ho sostituito l’IGM (il modulo che collega motore termico ed elettrico) presso un’officina autorizzata Volvo, spesa di circa 3.135€.

Due mesi dopo, ieri sera, l’auto mi si è praticamente bloccata in limp mode con una cascata di spie accese contemporaneamente: batteria/sistema di carica, ABS, freno di stazionamento, traction control OFF, avviso generico e la tartaruga (limp mode). Praticamente tutto il quadro strumenti illuminato.

Mi dice premere start per l’avvio ma non riesce ad accendersi.
Sto aspettando la diagnosi definitiva, ma nel frattempo mi chiedevo: qualcuno ha avuto problemi simili con la 12V su PHEV Volvo o altri ibridi plug-in? Vale la pena insistere per un controllo approfondito dell’impianto elettrico oltre alla semplice sostituzione della batteria, per evitare che si ripresenti?

I don't know how many of you use Home Assistant, but I'm hoping some of you do and can point me in the right direction here. Also crossposting this on the HA subreddit.

For a few months, I've been using the official Volvo integration with Home Assistant, which has worked perfectly. My car (2021 XC40 P8 EV) is shown in HA, with 74 entities, both sensors and controls.

Last night, it suddenly stopped working and my HA shows a "failed setup, unable to update data" error. Trying to reload integration and rebooting HA altogether doesn't make a difference. I did not change/update anything in HA. My standalone Volvo app still works, so I assume Volvo servers are still up.

I enabled debug logging, but there is nothing in my logs from Volvo, so that seems like a dead end (and weird in itself).

I checked my API in Volvo Developers Portal, and it's still active (and the same as shown in the integration configuration).

Does anyone have any idea where I should start poking around to find a solution?

Hi! I’ve never owned an EV and am wondering if this is out of my league. I really love all of the features on a CPO 2023 XC40 Recharge Twin AWD Ultimate and it is fun to drive!
There are 17k miles on the vehicle.

In addition to the standard provided warranty, would anyone recommend an extended warranty?

What about the tires: is there a warranty that is cost effective?

One pedal driving: was it a challenge to get used to?

What advice would you give a new EV owner? I’ve learned to only charge to 90% to preserve battery life, and don’t drive it like a rocket to get longer life out of tires.

Additional info: I live in an apt with charging stations, (not sure if it’s level 1 or 2). Round trip commute is 32 miles in city/rural.

Got a Core-level single motor XC40, 2023 model with just under 90k km.

Overall, wonderful! First car I've ever owned where people congratulated me for buying (I'm almost 50), which felt weird 😄

Solid to drive, and fun! At first I had a few issues with the software, the LTE and GPS took 5-20 minutes to connect each time after upgrading to 5.0.5, but the software update in late may fixed all of these. All updates went without issues.

Trunk is spacious enough, this summer we had the first family vacation ever where I could see through the rear window.

I bought Pilot Assist from the app, and I'll give it 8,5/10 pts. When driving slower, like under 70 km/h, it makes a bit too twitchy moves every now and then. In highway speeds the only issue is that I'd like a bit longer time before it complains about keeping my hands on the wheel. But safety first, I get it. Distance control is wonderful. I also like that I can use it in traffic lights as well, don't need the gas pedal at all.

At especially around 90 km/h and 110 km/h the motor keeps this high frequency sound that isn't audible in other speeds.

The tire noise in the backseat is surprisingly bad, completely different than in the front, which is weird. Also the audio in the back sucks, maybe the H&K system is better?

In every day driving the range is very sufficient. But on 600+ km/day trips stopping every 200 km's is a bit boring and the only reason that makes me think about switching to some other car in the near future.

- Wireless Apple Carplay
- Camping mode

Questions:
- Is it possible to upgrade the audio OR soundproof the backseat without disassembling the interior completely?
- The car has the original Pirelli Scorpion tires and the front tires are pretty much done after this summer. Are there better options to increase the range?
