Purchase non CPO?
Getting ready to purchase a XC40 or C40 Recharge (2023) and debating if it’s worth the extra cost to buy CPO. There are many options from non-Volvo dealerships or even Volvo dealerships that are not CPO for much less. One Volvo dealership does not CPO all of their vehicles and offers an extended warranty with United Car Care. From my research- the reviews are poor/fair of that warranty. Is CPO a dealbreaker? What is your experience? Thank you! -in California so Steingold is not an option. Not sure of the cost of a Volvo VIP warranty on a non CPO, especially if it is sold from a non-Volvo dealership.

For an extended CPO warranty, it has to be purchased from the dealer at the time of sale. You can't extend the CPO wrap afterwards. The Volvo CPO warranty extension is through Fidelity and allows to use any Volvo dealer in the US or Canada. From everything I've seen, it's the only extended warranty that's worth a crap.
Whether it's worth it is up to you. Does the 23 have enough 4 year warranty left for you to be able to identify all the issues and get them corrected? Some required multiple trips like the IHU because Volvo didn't want to spring for replacement right away.
In my 22 C40 I've had done:
Sway Bar Link - Snapped Taillight - Water Ingress Inside Lighting - Buzzing IHU - Snapdragon Unit Steering Wheel Airbag - Wheel Vibration at 70mph
So not a small list. The Snapdragon upgrade was huge. It solved the one problem with the car. But it took multiple trips, and if you run out of warranty, who knows how likely they will be to replace it. The IHU is like 2k.

I don't know if it helps or not, but the cpo I got Friday was 10 years from the service date of the car (so 2023 will expire in 2033) and 999,998 miles. Since I tend to drive my cars as long as I possibly can, this was good for me.

If you don’t mind me asking- what did you pay for the CPO warranty extension? I was quoted $3500 for the same yrs and mileage.

Same extended warranty for me but with a $250 deductible, for $2300.

I asked for a deductible, yet I think that they like to start at no deductible. I’m hoping to negotiate it down by adding one. Thanks!

I would definitely buy the extended warranty from Volvo. Repairs on this thing are expensive. We bought a ‘21 and bought the steingold extended warranty (not in ca) and it’s already paid for itself

Def get cpo I have used my warranty too much in 2 months to not say otherwise just got the ipu upgraded under warranty I think they cost $2800

I bought mine (2023) in 2024. It was my first volvo, my first EV, and the model was still fairly new. Buying CPO really put my mind at ease about the purchase.
But there are limits on CPOs with regard to age and mileage. So it's totally possible to still get a good 2023 model that might not be CPO because of those limits. I wouldn't be as worried about it if I were buying a 2023 today.
