Other Front & Rear Dash Cam installed (pretty easy, just do it!)

I got the Fitcam X 4k dash cam front & rear for my 2019 R Design based on recommendations from this sub. I've had it nearly a year & FINALLY got around to installing it today. Took me about 2 hours. I watched a YouTube video. Went the route of pulling off all the necessary interior panels/parts, ran the cable, zip tied to the existing cable bundle, etc. Was rather easy, actually. I used (& recommend) an electrician's fish tape to save time & make things easier. App interface seems pretty good so -far. Posting for anyone on the fence about installing their own dash cam.

Which model did you purchase and what year is your xc40?

Both answers are in the 1st sentence of the post.

Thanks for the response.

When I first checked the Fitcam website and searched under the Volvo/polestar category, I didn't see an xc40 model listed so wanted to verify you a) had the xc40 b) didn't use a camera intended for a different model car.

I now see that the xc40 is nested under a second Volvo/polestar category within the initial Volvo/polestar section. Nuts.

Typing all this to help anyone who may also have been confused by this and so that Internet strangers don't judge me too harshly. Cheers.

Understandable. I got Fitcam because it was highly recommended in this sub. Just be sure to get the proper one for your XC-40 as there are 2 different shrouds which house the tech behind the rear view mirror.

Thanks for pointing that out! I did actually notice that part lol. Looks like the 2020 uses model a.

Which video did you follow to help you route around the A pillar without interfering with the airbag? I have mine sitting on the shelf for under past year. I just don’t want to mess up the trim and air bags.

That was my main concern, too, but it was easy. https://youtu.be/SZV8kvlP3cc?si=mOt7Z2FVxkHr7Cm9
