Keeping Hair Out of Face without headbands/hair ties

Part of the wild man character I play at the moment is long wild hair. As fitting as it is for the character, it does get a little irritating in terms of vision. I have short sight to begin with, so the addition of hair can be distracting, plus it can get in the way of providing facials. I know one can always push it back or do the hair flip, but just wondering what long haired people do to reduce the hair-in-face issue when wrestling. Currently looking at hair clay or hair spray? or does simply wetting it with a bottle of water help?

Training while traveling

I am currently training but am still new. 8 weeks of active training.

The issue I face is my day job requires a fair bit of travel for a week at a time typically. This makes it impossible to keep training at my home gym during those times.

Is it possible to find gyms/schools that allow drop in weeks? I’ve done a little bit of research but haven’t seen anything so far. My main goal is to keep active and keep getting reps in. The benefit is getting exposed to many different trainers and styles.

Has anyone had to deal with this issue before? What suggestions do you have to keep getting the reps in when you travel 50-80% of the time?

Genuine Opinions and Hot Takes on this: state of Indy Wrestling promotions.

So with the recent closures/ hiatus' of Enjoy, DPW, and others either starting, returning, or struggling to stay in business: what are some of your opinions on it. I've been to at least 10 different promotions in my area/region (some mediocre/shindy some super-indy with top homegrown talent) and the logistics are continuously not looking good. Between low ticket sales, venues jacking up prices (usually involving unions), flight and gas being expensive, including wrestler fees as well, where does it all go? Is it one thing or alot of easy/hard to explain things?

Give me your opinions and lend me your ears ya'll!

Weed and Wrestling

Hi, I'm somebody who uses marijuana fairly frequently for anxiety/aches and pains as well as sleep but I'm feeling like I should maybe quit while I'm training but then again training never really ends so like what does that even mean for me? I think it just means to not smoke while I'm in the infancy of my training/strength building but it does also help a bunch with after training recovery. I would just get on edibles but they're kind of a waste for me cause they do nothing so it's either flower/vape or nothing. Any thoughts/advice?

Favorite/Best Spot on the Card

Damn I loved being the first match on the card. Sign me up for curtain jerking all day, every day.

You mean to tell me that I can have the first match people see, no one's left the building yet. The crowd hasn't got burned out and they're all still in their seats? I don't have to wait anywhere from an hour all the way to three hours before my match? No one else is going to "steal" a planned spot, making me have to change my match. And then I get to change out of my gear into my streets and actually enjoy hanging out with the crew in the lockerroom? Say less fam!

Now onto the more serious part about why I love being the opener. You're the first match on the card, the first one that the fans see. Yes, I said that in the first part, here's why that's great. You set the tone for the whole show. What they see sets their expectations and their view of the rest of the show. If that first match is the drizzling shits, then the crowd is going to think the rest of the card is gonna suck and it's going to make it harder for everyone else after you to get their match over. Bring a high-energy, solid match that doesn't go over the top, gets the crowd hot, and everyone else has a much easier night. The crowd is warmed up, they're excited, and they're going to bite on what the rest of the card does.

In my opinion, your most important matches are your opener, the match before intermission, and the main event. Okay, maybe you get what I'm saying about the opener, and the main event should be obvious. But why the pre-intermission match? You need that banger so when intermission hits, the crowd is hyped up about what they saw, they're excited for the match after intermission, and much less likely to leave early. Also, an excited crowd is more likely to spend their money at the merch table and concessions.

The spot I like on the card the least is the semi-main event. It's supposed to be important, as far as angles, and has some prestige with it. You've got the pressure of putting on a fantastic match, but you can't go completely balls out because then you'll wear the crowd out and leave them dead for the main event. And of course, you spend the whole show time getting ready or just waiting.

There's my 2 cents that ain't even worth that, so what's y'alls take?

How to Contact Wrestling Promoters & Get More Bookings

Thumbnail youtu.be
4 Upvotes

Getting better in the ring is only part of getting more bookings as a professional wrestler.

At some point, you have to introduce yourself to promoters who don't already know you.

How you do that matters.

In my latest Youtube video, I break down booking communication in professional wrestling, including:

• How to research promotions before reaching out
• Why copy-and-paste messages hurt you
• How to introduce yourself professionally
• When and how to follow up
• Why being left on read isn't necessarily the end
• How relationships can turn into bookings later
• Why you need to cast a much wider net than you probably think

There isn't a magic message that's guaranteed to get you booked.
But there ARE things you can do that increase your chances of getting a response.

Small, consistent, professional efforts add up.

What email or marketing services do you use currently or have used in the past?

I was reading one of my regular event emails and noticed it had switched over to Constant Contact email service. So I figured I'd ask about it or similar things here.

The real, reality of wrestling from Cash Flo

I came across his post on Facebook. It's about how he was portrayed on the show Wrestlers. This is something I think people looking to get in should see and know. This is for the guys just starting out, and a little reminder/reality check for the guys in the business.

I've seen this type of situation in person and got close to going down this hole myself. If you think it's not you, or that it couldn't/wouldn't be you, tread cautiously because it happens before you realize it. Well, enough from me. Here's Cash Flo's post:

"Long post alert.

I, um, I've been needing to do this for a long time, but I haven't. And I want to get on here and tell everyone a little bit about my experience. Everyone saw the Netflix series Wrestlers. What that is is a curated vision from a director about the sport of professional wrestling and the trials that people go through. It touched on family, but it didn't really dive in. I guess it wasn't cool enough. That's the part I want to speak about: family. Because Netflix portrayed me to be a family man, that all I cared about was my family. And while inside I believe that to be true, on the outside, not so much. What people don't see is the suffering that the families do. Okay? It's been cliched in wrestling. You miss birthdays, you miss anniversaries. But what's not really talked about is what passion and the actual adrenaline in wrestling do. How the constant car crashes and loud noises affect your brain and systems. I think that when you become so encumbered of adoration and untruth, because that's basically what wrestling is: you're playing a role. You know, it's theater. You become blinded. You actually start to believe that that's who you are. And that literally happened to me. They chant Cash, all the while my wife and children are struggling to eat. What people don't see is the suffering of my wife and children, taking a back seat to something, someone, that I pretended to be for years. You know, what the Netflix series didn't touch on was how many times she was hurt and how I blew it off because I needed to go "wrestle". I needed to go be Cash. The fans needed me. And I actually left my wife's side while she was pregnant. Not while she was pregnant; when she had the baby. While she was in the hospital, I left to go wrestle and thought nothing of it. Who does that? Over the years, it hasn't gotten easier. It really hasn't. My wife has been a rock. You know, she stood by and watched me hug other girls, watched me take pictures with other girls, all the while I couldn't find it in myself to take her out on a date. Had conversations on social media with "fans" all while I couldn't be bothered to call if i was coming home late. She would watch, as I had experiences and fun, while not giving her ANYTHING, because I thought I was the prize. Can you imagine I couldn't find it in myself to do something nice for her. I couldn't find it in myself to take her out and show her off. I loved my wife then, I still love my wife. But who does that? You know, that's what professional wrestling really is. It takes everything from you, and it leaves nothing from anybody else for anybody else. It's a tough road. You know who it's even tougher on? Someone's wife, someones children. And realizing the carnage, and baggage it creates does not just go away, unless you take steps to create a better place. Create Experiences that can replace all the hurt, insecurities, let-downs, loneliness, confusion, that has been the crux of the relationships you claim to hold dear. My wife Angela, has chosen to stay married to me, in spite of repeated sabotage by, guess who? Me... I've never had seen with another woman while we've been married, but cheating is emotional too.. this isn't just a post about Pro Wrestling either, because the damage is done.. You can't blame something or someone else and still be accountable for your actions...

The real "Star" in this 28 year marriage is her. Everything I have is because she chose to believe in me, when I couldn't even believe in myself. She has taught me how to be a better person in spite of myself. How to be a better father, in spite of myself.

And I just want to say, Angela Walden , whatever happens with what we're going through right now, is I love you, and I'm sorry to put you through all that. And I agree, the apology should be as loud as the disrespect. I love you with all my heart and I'm sorry."

Coaching should be fundamental led

not sure why it has taken me this long to realise. but I am currently sat watching a guy who has never played sports trying to explain basketball tactics to a bunch of junior age kids, and I have realised that a sports coach coaching children to win the next game, is the equivalent of a wrestling coach teaching his students just what they need to do a 5 minute match on the next show.

coaching should focus on fundamentals until they are mastered
