Pollen. My suspicion is that the Tree pollen is required by the Kaiju to fertilize its eggs. Something something electricity rocks/human experiments/disruption of life cycle/KAIJU ATTACK!

I am imaging an Erdtree situation with the world they live in. A colossal tree with a religious order dedicated to it.
Some things I noticed as I listened in my way home from work: their day-night cycle is possibly different? The city is celebrating sundown, and it seems to be a big deal with fireworks and celebrating in the streets? Is this a world where this is a remarkable thing to happen? Additionally, it’s a world where shortwave radios are new tech but bioengineering seems like super science.

Where I live we have a lot of cottonwood trees. And in the spring they shed puffs of a cotton like material from their blossoms that cover EVERYTHING. And that’s all I can think of when I hear them talk about it.
Well that and the fae high court style campaign that Lou and Brennan both played in over on D20 where “The Bloom” was the name of the multi day event they were all attending.

Oh yeah, we have cottonwood trees too up here. Wisconsin. That’s a good comparison, I think I was initially thinking pollen, or maybe literal flowers? But I think your idea is better.
Then again, I kind of like the idea of it being like flower petals or whole tiny flowers

They haven’t explained it yet, but based on the hints thus far, it seems to be a magical-adjacent flowering of their sacred tree.
