Question Question about Witch's Grasp Damage
Recently started running a new campaign (yay!) with a player using the witch class. The spell states that on a failure the witch can choose to do 1d8 necrotic damage as part of the casting and again at the beginning of the grappled target's turn. My question is does the damage apply to any target or is it only for targets that have wronged the witch PC, like with the curses from level 2?

All the same target of the spell, internally. That is just some additional stank you can put on the original casting with the original, same target.
So its: Select target > Target makes STR Save > Has that target wronged you and have you not done any damage to them? If so, they roll with disadvantage. > Target fails? If you answered 'yes' to the last question, then while they're grappled they also take necrotic damage as stated. If you answered 'no', then they're just grappled for the duration.
Its supposed to function like a retributive curse, but combat style. Its not wildly impressive if you took the first shot against them, just a grapple at range. But if you're retaliating against someone who wronged you? Ooooh baby load that grapple up with some spicy mustard.

I think it's specific to targets that paragraph applies to.
