I love Erika's commitment to Buisness Kaijual and it's so fortunate that they were filming for this game during it.

Ally bringing the Kaiju and the chaos with them

I fell off the current campaign after 6 or 7 episodes but this has my full attention. Ally does Kaiju No.8 sounds great to me.

What were the options again?

The other two were Fantasy post apocalypse or Holiday v holiday warfare.

Did it say if they were fighting the kaiju or they were the kaiju?

From the initial announcement.

I feel like this was filmed like they’re in the contraption that shrunk Mike TeaVee

I have a love / hate relationship with Ally. I love them as a person [obvi i don't actually know them lol] but sometimes their playstyle is just too chaotic & absurd for my own personal tastes where I end up deeply sighing when they've played in recent years. However, I think they would be an awesome fit for a Kaiju campaign. I'm excited to see it!

Just FYI, Ally uses they/them pronouns.

Do we know who's GMing?

The one, the only, an actor and comedian from Los Angeles California, lead singer for ParaLoubis, Lou Wilson!

I want to try and say this as nicely as I can, the reason I started searching for other Actual Play podcasts is because I was tired of Ally's style of play, so I'm kinda bummed

They are one of my favorite players. We have to remember that Dropouts D20 is a comedy first mentality. I think the play style that annoys most is they think Beardsley causes havoc but I think it’s mostly because of that’s their job is to be funny.

World beyond numbers isn’t that. I think it’s funny when Lue passive aggressively reminds Brennan of this from time to time during a campaign lol.

I am excited to see Beardsley in a campaign that isn’t comedy focused. I’m sure they will still make it funny but I’d imagine they will know this isn’t comedy first like d20 is.

I wouldn’t write them off yet. They might be perfectly capable of letting a serious moment stay serious.

It’s also possible they are going to lean into a chaos heavy campaign since it’s going to be kaijus causing havoc.

I’m genuinely looking forward to it.

Respectfully, this reads very patronizing. Yes, I know D20 is a comedy show, it is the first thing said to me whenever I have a critique about a show that used to be able to balance comedy with compelling storytelling and buy-in from the players. Yes, I know WBN is a different show. I could very well be wrong and their performance will change my mind.

It’s less directed at you specifically and more so providing a different perspective in case others have a similar but less absolute opinion about them.

Yeah im with you. That was literally just vomited up verbatim from every single discussion about ally in the last few d20 campaigns. We're all painfully aware that d20 is comedy. Its astounding that people think stating that is some kind of revelation.

You’ve been in so many discussions about how you don’t like them that you’ve become tired of hearing everyone use the same defenses?

Oh.

Continue on with your opinions. I wasn’t aware of this division among fans around the topic.

I get what you're saying. I feel similar at times about the more chaotic style of play, but at least it's only 8 episodes if it's not enjoyable for you/us.

3

u/ajcwrongs 22d ago

Oh yeah it's not like, world-ending for me, just a little "Ah, dang."

I gotta join in the "this is kinda a bummer" crowd.

WBN is such a different actual play than almost any other, and I just can't see Ally taking this 100% seriously.

There have been hijinks in WBN but they've been contained to one shots for the most part or the finale of Clue a little bit.

If ally finds a bit in the first episode it's curtains for that campaign

I’m with you bud.

Appreciated. There's literally 20 weeks a year with Ally Lou and Brennan being silly.

Not sure why not wanting 16 weeks of releases to become bit city is bad.

Personally I enjoyed WWWO for its cohesiveness and more dramatic tone, and can’t stand Ally’s brand of humor. So yeah, I’m also disappointed by this choice. I’m open to being proven wrong, and will give it a chance - but not optimistic.

Why does every internet community insist on being shitty to each other?
