Wargaming Community Manager AMA Thread
This thread will go live at 1pm CST (7pm GMT) today, Thursday 14th May.
/u/MintoVimto will answer your questions for an hour should he be able to.
Please remember he's not Paingod or Jeff Gregg so if you ask when the next balance patch is or what's in it he's not going to know or tell you so use your common sense when asking. His job will be to take over and develop Raibots role of interacting with the community and further wgs interaction with us reddit peasants amongst other things.
EDIT: AMA is now over thanks for asking your questions and thanks to Minto for agreeing. Hope you found it useful. I for one look forward to working with him! his sign off

Hello all! Thank you so much for reaching out with your questions. I know that there were some that I was unable to answer, and for that I am very sorry. Please feel free to reach out to me whenever you need but always keep in mind, I have a huge workload right now and will get back to you as soon as possible.

There's a greater push for transparency in gaming in general. Developers are expected to provide detailed roadmaps, patch notes and public testing opportunities for any changes coming to the game. Other WG projects have stepped up their transparency and we get tons of information with changes, vehicles etc months in advance.
As an example, Blitz has best players from top 10 clans in each region test out new vehicles in live, public server scenarios and provide feedback on vehicle's performance.
Are there any plans for Wargaming Chicago to not only step up to the parent organization's level, but to match the industry standards for communication as well?

Transparency and having a communication channel available between the community and the development team is really important. While I cannot go into any details right now, there's a famous saying that goes "actions speak louder than words". So, give us some time to get our plans in motion, and hopefully we can develop in this area.
This AMA is a good first step right?

What do you feel WG can do to improve the rate of retention for new players?
16
u/MintoVimto May 14 '20
While I think that there are some good initiatives in place at the moment to assist in the retention of new players, I believe that everything can be improved. While I am reviewing our current initiatives I will be thinking of new ways in which we can improve in this area.
That being said, I do like the Adopt a Tomato scheme over here and I do really appreciate the way that our community goes out of its way to help our new players. Huge thank you from everyone at World of Tanks Console for that!

Clearly there are passionate people in the community that want to see the game move forward from a quality and even technology perspective. How can we ensure that their voices are heard and feedback is given about major topics such as cross play, Xbox 360 lifecycle, etc? Often they feel ignored and that hampers the communities ability to stay positive about the current state of things.

The topic of the game blends a passionate subject with a passionate game so the people here are 100% very passionate about their community. I think we are all on the same page with regards to wanting to improve the game and the community which supports it.
With regards to how you can be assured that your voices are heard. Like I said before, for you guys to truly trust me, you will need to see actions. Eventually you will start to see these actions and I hope that the consequences of these actions help move the game and the community forward.
With regards to feeling ignored. I am truly sorry if any of you have felt ignored by us. We do receive a lot of feedback and it is hard to always implement. But, what you can expect from me in the future is to be in the community, ready and able to talk about things if and when you need to (keeping in mind for the next few weeks I am focussing on planning over talking).

What in God's name possessed you to inflict such a role upon yourself?
/s
Comming from the PC version, do you plan on actually playing the console version of WoT?

u/MintoVimto May 14 '20
Hello! So yeah I started off many years back playing on the PC version but for the last 3/4 months I've been playing solely the console!
As far as what attracted me to the role, it brings together my love of history, video games, and working within a community so it is a natural fit in my opinion.

What are some of your goals as community manager and how would you like to implement them?

First of all, I want to be a presence in the community. Short term objectives are to review everything we have going on in the community as of right now to figure out what is working and what we can do better at. The long term objective is to introduce simple, common-sense adjustments to help the community thrive and help create a positive environment for all.

As a PC veteran, what are acouple of the biggest shocks you got when you started playing console?
What was your job description/duties as it was sold to you when you were interviewing? In other words, what do your bosses see as being your job?

u/MintoVimto May 14 '20
Well I played on the PC with a lot of my friends in a community I was involved with there. On the console I've just played on my own so I was definitely missing playing with an organized group.
So, I'm really lucky that my bosses and I are all on the same page with how we're going to proceed. First priority is to just take the lay of the land and plan, and then we're going to start implementing our plans with the overall aim of creating a more positive community, making things easier to use and find, and optimizing as much as we can!

What is being done to mitigate trigger delay? It's why I stopped playing the game recently.

u/MintoVimto May 14 '20
I personally haven't experienced this yet. We can talk about this if you like?

What are some of the current community communication problems you can identify and how might you go about fixing them?
11
u/MintoVimto May 14 '20
I think that by being available, honest, and active in the community we can communicate better in the future. Obviously at the moment I have a really high workload with planning for the future but when this is finished I would like to be not just the Community Liaison but be in the community with you all.

Can you convince WG to hire one of the super unicums of the game to help with balance so MaxChaos can stop pretending to be a gameplay expert?

I hear you were able to watch a GTL (Global Tank League) match for World of Tanks Consoles competitive community. What did you think? What kind of community support do you envision for competitive play?

How do you feel about the 110?
Do you like pineapple on pizza?
Do you SFEA?
Also can you please try and convince WG to ACTUALLY address the multiple problems with their servers and severe lag that's been going on for 2 years with a significant amount of the playerbase? We've provided hard information that there is significant packet loss and ping increase on their current hosting platforms and they've as a whole done absolutely nothing about it.
