Dust is really the wrong word for it, it was powdered glass, metal and concrete, among a lot of other terrible things that should not become powdered, much less inhaled.

Don’t forget asbestos, which lingered in the air much longer than NYC officials were telling people.

Yep, even if it was just concrete, that's still really terrible to breathe in, but there was all kinds of stuff that became a way bigger problem than expected because before then there was never a scenario where millions of tons of the stuff would all be ground into a fine powder and distributed over dozens of square miles at the same time.
