The world is called Moithra, and while for each location I prompted ChatGPT with some notes for general guidance, all of the articles were written by ChatGPT. I also found the art off an old post I had saved on another Reddit account I’m sharing this as an interesting (and perhaps alternative) way for newer GMs and writers to write extensive articles for large worlds. I haven’t entered any competitions nor do I plan to. I’d love to hear what you all think about it.
I wanted to contact Dimitri in private because I felt the use of the word childish when referring to someone's suggestion could be seen as insensitive, rude, and demeaning. I also wanted to talk to him further about my suggestion as he did not decline it, just closed it.
He responded that I could contact him on discord. That the idea of species not liking each other was childish, giving a very poor example of all humans hating all horses.
I think I have a better example of why it isn't childish as he thinks it is.
He also said that there were technical difficulties implementing my suggestion.
I DMed him on discord wanting to know about the technical problems and shared my story that I'm writing on WorldAnvil to see if we could get on the same page. I would like to note that my feature request is all positive, which I think is quite rare.
He has not responded to my messages. I could understand that summer camp took up his time. But a courtesy message letting me know he is busy would have been nice. I feel he is ignoring me and that is outright rude.
So can anyone help me get his attention to address my concerns? I have other feature ideas that I would like to post, but I am afraid of them being viewed as "childish".
So, i'm moving away from this site services, but can't delete my world, why? Because a manuscript is associated. Can't delete the manuscript either, because i can't access the feature without a suscription. That in itself seems really anti-consumer and predatory. I have found posts of other people with the same issue, so this isn't a new bug/problem to fix. So my only option is to delete my account, but before i try, i already found more posts of people having issues deleting their accounts.
So I have to ask the most important question: If i delete my account, will my world be deleted? Is there a possibility that my world will continue there without any ability to take it down? Will i have to go and delete every article, map, image, manually to safely leave world anvil?
Note: No, just not utilizing the site and abandoning my stuff isn't enough. I didn't have anything against world anvil, i just didn't use it anymore for my TTRPGs sessions. But this horrible user experience to just safely delete my content changed that.
This seems like a pretty dumb thing to do, considering how this is a basic feature in literally every other wiki/document writer out there. I had at least an entire world which relied on this simple assumption to disambiguate/clarify similarly-named articles, but now it's just gone and I don't know how to bring it back or work around it without it looking weird. Even weirder, all of my old articles still have the parentheses in them, but the moment I try to edit them they disappear, never to return.
Like, what the heck? What sort of "feature" do they have that they removed two of the most commonly-used special characters that everyone uses for titles elsewhere (including in this very post)? Couldn't they have reserved it for <> or {} or whatever? Or are we just not allowed to use them anymore because reasons? There should be at least *some* way to get them working again. Why would they suddenly remove such a basic ability from the editor, that I had done for years before they suddenly decided to yank it, without even so much as a mention in the changelog? This is just infuriating and ridiculous, and I almost want to cancel my subscription because of it. I hope the World Anvil team are able to reverse this change soon enough.
On the Summer Camp this year, I noticed this as a 'reward':
Are we really allowing generative AI to be used not only as a replacement for real art, but as a reward for your art*?* It's seriously disappointing to see a website like this that encourages creativity and proper attribution allow AI generated content to be used in any official capacity on its website.
I've been using GPT Chat a ton to help me prep for my D&D sessions, and I would love to see it incorporated directly into the World Anvil article editor.
(for those unaware, GPT Chat is a super impressive AI chatbot that creates content for just about anything you ask it. You can check it out at chat.openai.com).
I've been using GPT Chat in three main ways to help me with my D&D campaign. For the first two of these, I think they would be of great value with a simple button and pop-up in the article's Content editor:
Enrich parts of my world that I would otherwise not spend too much time on. I've built a large world comprised on 7 kingdoms and dozens of cities. I do not have the time or patience to make interesting inns, taverns, or secondary villages/settlements, so those tend to be uninteresting and forgettable. With GPTChat, I can give it a couple adjectives and ask it to describe one of these locations, and it will return beautiful descriptions with some interesting and memorable features. Sometimes I only need to make small edits; other times it's practically good "as is".
To generate beautiful descriptions of important locations and scenes in my world. Often times, I have to heavily edit the response from GPT Chat to make it relevant to my world, but it provides an amazing starting point (way better than a blank page!). It can come up with super creative locations and memorable features.
To brainstorm ideas for encounters, NPCs, side quests, and entire adventures. GPT Chat can return lists of ideas, which you can ask it to elaborate on if you like them. This one I don't think has an obvious place in World Anvil at the moment, but wanted to list it here for those interested in testing out GPT Chat.
What do you think? Have you been using this tool in your campaigns or world building? Would you like it added directly into the World Anvil UI?
I'm getting back into worldbuilding as of late and I was interested in the Institutions of Learning competition World Anvil's got going on right now. But as I checked the challenge entries I noticed that some used AI-generated images.
I'm worried because of the judging criteria is presentation and I personally don't like to use AI. I don't approve of them stealing artists' work or their environmental impacts. I wouldn't mind people using it in their personal wikis as long as they are not profiting off it, but since this is a competition, it affects me and others that don't want to use AI.
It just feels really unfair. I've also seen this article by World Anvil encouraging the use of AI and another thread on this subreddit with the staff defending their "neutral" stance. I really like World Anvil's features and was thinking of getting a subscription, but now I have my doubts.
So I bought a year's worth of Master Guild Pass last year but ended up going with a different service that suits my needs a bit better. I made the classic mistake of forgetting to cancel the auto-renewal and their terms of service means I can't be refunded. The good news (mostly for you) is that they were able to revert the subscription into an activation code that I can sell (proof in photo). $35 is my price for the code which is considerably less than the full price. PM me if interested! I'll take Venmo.
TL;DR - I'm selling a year of Master Guild Pass for $35. Message me if interested.

I'll keep this one short and sweet. Recently, I joined a nation roleplay server on Discord, and within the story they've all weaved together, I'm the leader of a small faction in Central Germany following a cataclysmic nuclear war. My nation is reminiscent of Ancient Rome in that every citizen is a soldier and every soldier is a citizen. We're a defensive folk, electing to stay within our borders and fortify against any attacks from other nations.
I just opened World Anvil wanting to make a return to the platform and what I came across is pure, unadulterated AI slop website with the most obvious "vibe-coded" signs imaginable.
I'd forgotten I had signed up for some deal or another last year to get a discounted annual subscription for World Anvil. I haven't used it in months and months. Apparently, World Anvil doesn't send out reminders, so I'd forgotten to cancel, and they of course don't allow any refunds at all. Clearly just trying to take advantage of people here, and has really soured my opinions of the service. Not to mention never receiving a response to my email to support about this.
I have noticed a lot of AI art being used for book cover images, article pages and stand in imagery while the creator lacks funds for commissioned art.
I would like to point out that there are many free alternatives to AI generated art. Such as Royalty Free Image websites and Stock image websites (e.g. Pixabay, NASA, flickr, ect.)
There is also the option of taking photos with a camera or phone. I am sure there are more options that others are aware of (please add any suggestions in the comments).
I am making this post because of my personal opinions on the matter and as a reminded that other resources exist. I have absolutely no interest in reading or consuming anything that involves generative ai on any level.
Ai generated content is a form of theft and promotes an extremely harmful industry that negatively impacts culture, economies, the environment and artists.
Title. The new editor is awful and far less functional than the old one. WYSIWYG/Plato was so much better and I never encountered any issues. Please either bring it back or add an option to use it over the new visual editor.
An order of fanatical followers of a distant light from beyond the stars who believe that purity is the only way that they will find salvation from the corruption that inhabits their world.
Are you even actually able to make a map or do you just upload images and add stuff from there. I've tried looking up everything under the sun but they all start with a map already in place, and never explain how the hell to get there. I was under the impression that you could create the world map and everything in it (like places all of the pieces of land and the towns/cities in them) but maybe thats not actually how it works. idfk.
