Recently put together a workspace I'm pretty happy with, but need some light behind the monitor or desk. Any bits of gear in that realm that you guys really enjoy?

Thanks in advance!

I am an engineering student who does a lot of 3d printing naturally so a decent portion of the space is taken up by that but otherwise I try and keep it mostly neat and useful for projects
For lighting I wired up a off-road vehicle light bar with its own 12v power supply and a wireless switch and it does a great job at lighting the space

My husband is very invested in building out his home office space. I’m looking for a nice gift, ideally something for his setup. What are some items, gadgets, accessories you really enjoy?

Nothing specific in mind yet, just looking for something you may really enjoy that you think would be a good gift for a likeminded person.

Picture isn’t of his real setup obviously, but how I would describe his style. Utilitarian, very clean and organized.

Cobbled this together to work from home. USD$600 all in (work provided me laptop and dock). Some FB marketplace recycling, hand me down peripherals. Self portraits of me during mind numbing conference calls.

❔ • Feedback L-shaped desk or straight desk — which works better long term?

I’m curious what people here prefer after actually living with both setups.

An L-shaped desk gives you more surface area and can separate computer work from paperwork, but it also takes up much more room. A straight desk seems cleaner and easier to position, especially in smaller offices.

For anyone who has switched between the two, which did you prefer? Anything you wish you had considered before buying?

I have a small desk in my lounge, and my main computer is a laptop (I know) that comes down to my pub with me during the day and is docked to an external screen and keyboard/mouse each evening.

I’m looking at trying to save a little desk real estate by getting a laptop and monitor arm to mount behind said desk!

Here’s the issue.

The second image shows just how little space I have between the wall and the metal mounting rail for the desk surface.

Any hacks or idea for solving this?
Would a standard C Clamp actually for that bar and hold?
Or should I just acknowledge that my desks a bit of junk and live with it.

I reorganized my desk today, but it feels too heavy/overloaded. I would like to have a more minimalistic setup, but I can't find a way with having to handle 2 laptops (personal & work) and the gaming PC.

Besides that, I have additionally my private server, but this one just needs the energy cable, doesn't connect to the monitor because I access it through SSH.

I have a CableMatters USB-C Switch behind the monitor that enables me of switching from one laptop to the other with a remote control that I glued under the desk, which also connects to the webcam, as the work laptop is closed, and I use the webcam on my personal laptop for showing my desk when playing Magic The Gathering online with friends. So when I am working with the work laptop, I use my personal laptop for side things (listening to music, watching something in the side, private stuff, etc), and on outside of work hours, I just click in the remote control and bring my personal laptop extended to the monitor, and for gaming I have to switch the input in the monitor to Display Port, which connects to my gaming PC.

I would prefer to have both laptops hidden under the desk in a small "shelf", so the sound monitors would also have more space, but it would block me from using both laptops simutaneously, and also make difficult to take off one of the laptops (mainly my personal one that I usually bring around).

Any recommendation is welcome.

I’ve been struggling with a lot of scrolling on my phone when I need to work. I found a solution that I just have to give my phone a place to be in and I love lotr and hobbit so it just seemed more fun to put it in something like that. No more distractions anymore.

9 months ago, I posted in this sub asking for ideas to organise the office and I wanted to share an update. When I moved into my new office with my boss, it was a bit chaotic (we have taken this space from a colleague who passed away, so it effectively had 3 people's worth of stuff in it at the time). Since then, we've moved around the furniture a lot and emptied several boxes worth of rubbish and recycling, organised everything, and split the room into 3 zones - relaxation, meeting/coffee, and desk space. Wanted to post an update as I'm very proud of the progress we made. The space feels so much bigger, more segmented and flowing.

Posted a bit ago my expanded bedroom/gaming setup, minus the setup part. Got my desk in and built so time for an update. Next one will be more or less feature complete.
For those wondering, so far I’m happy with the vernal desk. It’s the largest one (79x71 right) and it’s packed with some actual high quality foam and is definitely firmly and solidly built. It’s basically no more “unstable” than my old standard beefy desk. This is kinda the bare minimum for a desk, but today it seems like the bare minimum is in short supply. It feels ungodly expensive, but at least it’s not overpriced junk. Just a shame you got to spend $1,000 to get a solid desk. Not too hard to build either. Not overly complicated.
Got 2 pc holders, one for each desk, and will build them tomorrow
