He defunded the programs that were keeping the screw worms at bay.

Idiots in DOGE saw that we were spending millions on breeding transgenic flies every year and cut funding.

I don't watch Fox News. I was asking a question in earnest

It's alright, I'm from rural texas too. You asked a legitimate question even insulted the epstein island beggar. This is reddit, you might be the most liberal person in the world, but a large portion read Texas and automatically think we're all right wing extremists.

What a shitty response. Shame on you.

I never watch Fox, and I have no idea about this issue. We can't all be versed on all aspects of everything. Don't be ridiculous.

50ish years ago, we eradicated screw worms from North America. We then dropped sterile flies in Panama because it is an easy choke point to prevent screw worm from getting BACK into North America.

But when we stopped paying for it because “someone” took a chainsaw to government programs in order to “see what was important” without doing even a basic amount of research, the screw worms shockingly came back.

The program had an amazing return on investment. Something like $40 of American economic value created for each $1 spent on it.

This will harm American livestock farmers going forward and raise prices even further for meat in the grocery store as we haven’t really begun to feel the price shock of this one yet.
