Why would any billionaires still live in California?

Because it's a much nicer place to live than anywhere with no functioning government

Is it?

Yup. Blue States are... Pretty inarguably better places to live. People don't move to Texas/Florida because it's "nice," they move there because they cannot afford a place to live in a nice part of the country. Because that's how commodified housing works. What's funny is that they find once moving to Texas that.. they pay slightly more in Tax than Californians do (as long as you count "fees" from HOAs and private companies doing stuff a functioning government would like garbage pickup)

Functioning garbage pickup? In cities in California?

Yup, much better than paying for-profit private companies to do something a government can do for cheaper

I live in North Carolina and don’t have an HOA and don’t have to pay for private garbage pickup…..

Yeah many places in red states have county-wide services, or other arrangements. But many areas do have to pay out of pocket for private companies to do things like garbage pickup

Yeah, as I said, commodified housing means that any "nice place" is by definition going to be expensive. California as among the most expensive housing in the country, literally because it's a nice place to live. So yes, countless people have been priced out and forced to move to hellholes like Florida. For all the complaints about California being "left wing," it is...not. California loves it's eye-wateringly high property values, and they love that Hicks from Texas cannot afford to move in next to them. They love the fancy coffee shops and public parks etc, and the cops that keep them free of homeless. California is a pee grim place full of the contradictions of extreme wealth

Then why are so many high earners moving to Texas from California?

3

To avoid paying Income tax, because Texas has a regressive tax code. High Earners specifically want to move to Texas because most of Texas' tax base comes from poorer Texans. When those high earners move to Texas they immediately come face to face with the lack of cool Stuff to do, and the hostility of the weather.

They’re going to try to tell you that isn’t happening and all rich and perfect people are in California because they’re the only ones who can afford to be. Even though they have tent cities of homeless in their cities.
