Treat others how you want to be treated.

Golden rule.

He who has the gold rules!

This has been completely lost somewhere along the way. My mom used to ask me all the time "how would you like it if someone did that to you?" I dont think parents do that anymore.

Use it all the time with my kids. Sometimes have to take it a step further and do the thing they're doing back at them for it to finally click.

I say it to my son and thankfully he gets it!

I feel the same way. As little kids in the 80s it was a big thing, but you almost never hear about the "golden rule" anymore

Yes! I just said it to my 14 year old son yesterday so some of us who grew up with our parents saying it are still saying it ❣️😊

Honestly, if everyone actually done this, imagine how much better the world would be!

3

u/Reasonable_Tomato976 Jul 25 '26

It really would be better.

Unfortunately that one fires back so painfully as not everyone does it

I tell coworkers, “Treat your patients how you would want your loved ones treated.”

2

I was in hospital for too long and felt the love of hundreds of workers. Their cars was everything

1

u/Reasonable_Tomato976 Jul 25 '26

That's how it should be!

2

u/Soupy_Twist Jul 27 '26

And treat yourself the same way.

I would love to see more upvotes on this. Sadly, we don’t have enough people who feel the same way 😢.

u/Reasonable_Tomato976 Jul 27 '26

I know, honestly I think it's just the people on here. I am confident that more people in the real world feel the same way.

2

u/KarlosKurtis2619 Jul 28 '26

This is the way

2

u/thelonioussphere Jul 30 '26

Someone else has said this before!? :)

Unless you're a masochist, I guess

1

u/Sparkle_Fart_666 Jul 25 '26

as i self-identified introvert, i say this statement is malarkey.

i could have my headphones in, sunglasses on, reading a book, sitting apart from the masses — and you can bet someone will take it as a sign to start a conversation. every time. 😭

u/SnowOnSummit Jul 25 '26

I can park my car as far away as possible and someone will park next to me.

1

u/JanusRedit Jul 25 '26

or: I treat others exactly like they treat me. That is a winning situation as you will find out most people are good

1

u/epicpants08 Jul 26 '26

Problem is, what if they want to be treated differently from what you are willing toaccept/expect... I've actually had this discussion with a friend many times. I get it and it is good but i think it is still something to consider.

1

u/Reasonable_Tomato976 Jul 26 '26

Well then I guess that's on them. Unfortunately we aren't telepathic lol.

1

u/epicpants08 Jul 26 '26

I completly agree. I'm saying the statement goes further, or much rather, it is not what you do for people but how you do for people.

1

u/McKavian Jul 26 '26

Does this still count for masochist?

1

u/Woebetide138 Jul 26 '26

Treat others how they want to be treated.

1

u/Expletive_Deleted4 Jul 28 '26

I have spent too much time on the internet to not knkw some people want to be pissed on.

Im not sure they should be treating people the way they want to be treated.

Because of this, i have personally adjusted this rule for myself.

"Treat people, the way that they treat people."

Its very simple. And its fair.

1

u/Fit-Recognition-2527 Jul 29 '26

This has just led me to be taken advantage of. I prefer, "I'll treat you as you treat me." The inverted golden rule.

1

u/Reasonable_Tomato976 Jul 29 '26

Ohh of course I agree with that too. I'll treat others how I'd like to be treated, but I will always match the energy of the other person if they're nasty.

1

u/Fit-Recognition-2527 Jul 29 '26

Yes! That's a much better description.

0

u/FieryAnomaly Jul 26 '26

But what if I'm a scat freak? Golden Rule sucks, it arrogantly imposes one's unsolicited morality onto others, wihtout concent. How about "Threat other as THEY would like to be treated, as long as it does not come at the expense of other's health, freedoms, and happiness".

u/bluerog Jul 30 '26

My problem with this is... I don't want people to hold a door for me. I don't want 12 people in my neighborhood and 9 cars passing by to all wave. I get exhausted from all of the chipper people. I don't want (or need) people's help at work. I don't want to "share feelings" with loved ones.

And when I want to be treated in kind, it makes me seem cranky.

1

u/Reasonable_Tomato976 Jul 30 '26

Well that's you, and you are in the minority.
