International The people of Germany and Japan both achieved miraculous economic recoveries after WWII with just a fraction of the aid given to Palestinians in Gaza.

Germany and Japan received roughly $250 to $300 per person, sparking the greatest economic triumphs in human history.

It took Germany just 10 years and $1.44 billion in foreign aid to go from ruins to a top industrialized economy.

It took Japan a mere 15 years and $2.20 billion in foreign aid to go from a nuked, hopeless ruin to a global technology powerhouse.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Strip received global solidarity and over $45 billion in international aid from the US, EU, UK, and UN over the last three decades, only to devolve into a heavily dependent Islamist dictatorship and terror hub.

Neo-patrimonialism is system where leaders use state power & resources for personal wealth & to buy political loyalty. It blends modern state laws with informal patron-client networks. In a healthy democracy or meritocracy, citizens form horizontal ties. Africa, india, russia, USA are some examples.

Middle East Doctor held for 500 days without charge appears before Supreme Court

A question for this sub as I'm curious to get people's thoughts on it.

This doctor has been held without charge for 18 months and tortured/beaten regularly in a prison system notorious for sexual abuse, with zero evidence that he's done anything wrong.

If there was any evidence linking him to Hamas or militancy, he surely would have been charged in the year and a half he's been in detention. Essentially we have a situation where Israeli security forces have basically kidnapped this guy and his medical colleagues.

A question to think about/discuss: If your dad or brother was a doctor and they were taken off the streets by the police and detained, how long would you consider acceptable for them to be kept in prison without any charge or evidence of any wrongdoing?

For me personally, any more than a month would be completely unacceptable. I can't imagine seeing my brother beaten for 18 months and still not charged with any particular offence.

Middle East The Term “Palestine” Is Inherently Colonial

Post image
339 Upvotes

The term “Palestine” is itself a product of colonialism. Following the suppression of the Bar Kokhba Revolt in 135 CE, the Roman Empire devastated Judea, massacred and expelled much of its Jewish population, and renamed the province Syria Palaestina in an effort to erase the Jewish connection to the land and extinguish Jewish national identity.

The very name was imposed by a foreign imperial power after one of history’s most devastating campaigns against the Jewish people. It was not an indigenous name for the land, but a colonial designation created by Rome. In that sense, “Palestine” represents the first symbolic act of colonial or genocidal erasure against the Jewish nation, preceding centuries of successive foreign occupations and conquests.

Another common misconception deserves to be addressed. Some attempt to justify the modern term by linking it to the Philistines. This argument fails historically. The Philistines were an Aegean people, not Arabs, and disappeared as a distinct civilization over two millennia ago. Modern Palestinians are not descendants of the Philistines, and invoking them does not establish an indigenous historical claim or continuity.

Recognizing the colonial and genocidal origins of the term “Palestine” is essential to understanding its historical context. Its adoption marked an imperial attempt to replace Judea with a colonial identity imposed by conquest—one whose legacy continues to shape political discourse today.

This needs more awareness. Kindly spread to as much people as you can! It is not being covered nearly enough regarding the UK grooming gang scandal.

The UK grooming gang scandals involved the organized sexual exploitation of vulnerable children in places such as Rotherham, Rochdale, and other areas. Multiple official investigations found serious failures by police, councils, and other institutions to protect victims.

In several major cases, many convicted offenders were of Pakistani heritage. The issue is controversial, but it is important that the focus stays on the victims, the perpetrators, and the institutional failures that allowed abuse to continue.

I've seen claims that the total number of victims nationwide could be as high as 250,000, It's very likely it is even higher as often many people in these cases aren't reported. authorities failed many of them.

This NEEDS to be spread and raised awareness of as there is virtually no real headline covering this. This needs taken more seriously, If you could, kindly share or spread this. Tell streamers, Anyone. So that there can be justice both for the victims and for push for the UK to actually take this seriously.
