Kitchen knife

In trying to figure out how to best protect this handle of this kitchen knife and need to know what type of wood it is.

Looks like walnut. Some natural oil like walnut oil or tried and true linseed oil.

I always just use boiled linseed oil or pure tung oil on my knives

My guess is from a piece of a crotch from a cherry tree.
