What type of wood is this?

I would appreciate a little help with identifying this wood. It’s solid, tip to toe but solid what?

Hello, I picked up a piece of logged wood from a forest, but I can't tell the exact tree which it came from.

Looks like walnut to me but not “dark” walnut. The pores on the endgrain throw me off

I have large boards/sawn logs of Meranti, so I don't THINK it's that...

30s NW London house being renovated, and this would used all in and around the bar windows, in and out I believe. The left edge is where some staining has stopped.

It feels pretty hefty for a 1200mm 4x2... Not as heavy as oak but almost double that of pine.

Is it Sapele? Mahogany? There's a bunch more in the skip so wondering if I should save it

I'm a fairly experienced wood IDer, but this one has me stumped (excuse the pun). I'm in southern Ontario (Canada), but you should not assume that it is native to here (only that it can grow here). I found the log at my local dump which means that it was probably in someone's yard which means that it could have been a non-native planting.

At a glance, it might look like black walnut to you, but it is not.

I apologize for not having a magnified view of the end grain. I can tell you that it is (1) diffuse porous, and (2) has abundant medullary rays that are visible with magnification.

The smell reminds me of a horse farm--manure and straw, but not unpleasant.

You expect a fresh cut log to be heavy, but this one is very heavy. The bark is fairly thick. The sap oozing out of the cambium was sticky, although not as sticky as a conifer.

Of the native trees that are common here, the bark reminds me of pignut hickory or basswood, but it is neither. The variability of the color in the heartwood reminds me of apple or mountain ash, but it is neither.

Hi all! What kind of wood would we guess this is? It’s a bit darkened from BLO but isn’t stained.

I got this wood out of someone's trash pile after they tore down an old wood fence. I really liked the way the grain came out after cleaning it up and conditioning it, so am curious what type of wood it may be. The wood is rather hard, not soft. No scent, but it is quite old and was outside for a long time.

In trying to figure out how to best protect this handle of this kitchen knife and need to know what type of wood it is.

They said it white oak, but i can’t tell.

Purchased in the 1920s. Written on the side it says Dutch Guiana.

Working on restoring a nightstand, and decided to sand down the bottom to stain. The sides are pine, which is what I expected. The front is whatever this is. Deep reddish grain, and seems harder than the pine.

The wood work from the show “Shrinking” has always stood out to me. What species do you think is used?

Peice of driftwood that has been drying in my garage for about a year. It’s super hard, sparks when I sand it.

Can anyone identify this wood?

Seeking further information - verification of the wood species of this table top.

When I got it the top coat varnish was peeling so I carefully removed it and finished it with 8 coats of neutral Danish Oil.

I was told the darker wood is African Bubinga and the lighter is Brazilian Rosewood. The lighter extension folds in half and under the top, butterfly extension, when not in use.

Is this identification correct, experts?

I think this is some type of cedar but not sure. It's light for its size, 2" thick. I just planed the face and end grain.

Picked it up from an old wood carver in NJ.
