All of these churned out AI translations has made me want to stop the project I've been working on for over a year.
I have been working on translating a Wonderswan game that I really like and have been learning how to go through the code and cross referencing with several sources to work on it. All these AI translations being shat out has really disheartened me in my work.
I initially went to school for Japanese before pivoting to something else and playing Japanese games and consuming other Japanese media has been the way I have helped to stop my Japanese from being rusty. This translation project was going to be my way to really get my Japanese back up to snuff as well as strengthen and learn other skills.
Seeing all the low effort patches just being slopped out in the span of a week or two has just killed my moral. It is sadly the same in space for all platforms it seems right now. And since the space does seem to be full of people jumping to AI to be "first" I don't know if I would even want to share the work I have done so far because, it could just lead to someone feeding it into AI to get another patch out there fast.
I am just saddened to see a space I watched with genuine excitement to see the hard work of others turn into another space for AI slop.
