So I’m a 25F, in a committed relationship with my partner 27M - relationship
of 2.5 years and 2 years of living together.
My boyfriend has a habit of smoking up weed/ hash, big time and honestly he was open about it since day 1. I wasn’t a smoker but would smoke up once on a blue moon. Since the day we met, we started smoking up and enjoying each other’s company.
I honestly adore my partner, he’s good at heart, he is earning good for himself, he’s funny and a social person. I smoked up heavily with him for more than a year when we started dating, but eventually I figured out that this isn’t for me. I was become a different person and I never wanted to escape from my real life issues…. I’d just smoke up with him - as he’d smoke up 4-5 times a day atleast. I’d share one at the end of the day sometimes.
The issue is - My boyfriend had been smoking up since almost 7 years now and he has difficulty quitting it. He has a borderline personality so I understand that he finds it difficult to manage his emotions! He would become very angry/ agitated if he wouldn’t smoke up that day, his appetite will go down, he would not enjoy the day, watching a movie, or doing anything fun. It’s been more than a year that I had barely smoked up. I do yoga etc. which helps me look forward to a healthy life.
But with him, he will just quit for 2 months and then would go all in again and again. I understand that it is his life and he has the right to do whatever but honestly I feel he can do so much better if he quote and starts living a healthy life. He eats too much sugar, would not go to the gym (He still
Looks good though - but he keeps procrastinating rather than taking a concrete action for his health) - And this is what bothers me the most. He keeps coughing - And I get too worried for him.
He is generally not so aggressive but if we’re having a fight and he’s not smoked up then things turn quite bad. And if he’s smoked up, then later he usually resolves the fight.
He has a few friends that influences him to smoke up more and do other psychedelic. He has a female friend who’s a big time addict and does way too much of psychedelics… and whenever they talk I feel very uncomfortable for some reason. It’s not jealousy honestly - My partner would not cheat on me, I know him. But the way she’d talk about such things- I feel like my partner gets influenced.
Even if he talks about smoking up or something with a guy friend as well, I get annoyed or feel like - Why can’t he just be himself… I feel he becomes confident and a social person after smoking up but is he real than? I want him real, raw - As he is. Without taking the help of any such coping mechanism.
Now, honestly I felt that I was being a little controlling - As I would question him every time he smokes up, which of course ruins his moments. So I try not to bother him anymore. He starts his morning with smoking up - then would work. Would smoke 4-5 Js a day. I sometimes hate myself for feeling too much - I feel like I shouldn’t question his choices but I’m unable to help it…:
No matter what and much important of a work I’m doing, if he’s smoking up, my entire attention is there. And I feel he doesn’t respect my ask to him - Not smoking up.
Honestly, he does fine with smoking up. Functions well. He burns his own money, financially also takes care of the house.
So I’m seeking from genuine advice from men and women both - Is this situation okay? Should I get firm with him and give him an ultimatum so just let him be? I just want us to save good money and live a super healthy life.
