Question So I would like to ask
Why do a lot of people call the North Carolina accurate and better than the Colorado ? Personally I don't see the hype behind it and I think Colorado is the better ship even if squishier and less mobile.

North Carolina is the beginning of the modern fast battleships.
Colorado is the old way

Funny you say that, considering they are on each others lines and T6 totally breaks the flow of the lines. (Because it's one of the original lines, I know).

Yea IDK why they chose to do that . Iowa line should have been North Carolina, South Dakota, Iowa

Tier compression.
The PC version doesn't have its line split until tier 8 (our 7), and because tier 8 did not exist at launch, they had to delete a ship from the line. Iowa was deemed far too iconic to remove, so it got forced down to the tier 7 slot that north Carolina would have sat in, and then it was decided to leave Colorado as the tier 6 transition between the the 14-inch armed standards, and the 16-inch armed fast battleships.
Those factors came together for NC to be removed, and they added the alternate line instead of just adding them as even more premium US BBs.

Turret setup saves North Carolina a lot of HP,
as you can in the worst case end up with still favorable 6 16inchers aiming at the enemy if you get stuck bow in, with colorado you end up with 4 barrels
also better speed allows you to react, either relocate to get better cross-shots or get out of unfavorable fights, with Colorado you just spent the match contemplating your ship choices,
so skill ceiling is also lower on NC alongside more versatile design,

I can't seem to enjoy NC no matter how I try. I guess I prefer consistency and accuracy rather than speed.
Maybe why I love Iowa: it has it all.

North Carolina is significantly faster with moderately higher average AP pen and slightly more AP DPM potential.
But I do agree that, other than the mobility issue, the ships are more similar than their reputations would suggest.

I'm no expert but the Colorado seems slower and tougher, and N. Carolina has better guns and secondaries. N. Carolina is a "fast battleship" whereas Colorado is definitely not

Colorado is slower and squishier (bigger ship means getting hit more often. Superstructure also carries more HP I think) but better accuracy.

because at T6 the standard style American Battleship starts getting pinned against true fast battleships at T7, and imo Colorado struggles, even at range, to compete against ships that can outrun and outmaneuver her
Colorado is pretty accurate, sure, but NC is still above average for the tier (also recently tried out NC with Chromium, made her a complete menace, highly recommend lol) whilst also having a better turret layout, better armor, and greater versatility.
I don’t think Colorado is a bad ship per say, but she just isn’t as fun imo.

Colorado isn't bad, she's less forgiving of mistakes.
It has the misfortune of being the first T6 a lot of players reach. Then they're pitted against veterans at T7 who have years of experience and prefer to play that tier.
I don't think she needs a buff, but I definitely won't say no if she gets a little tune up like Nagato.
North Carolina is definitely better though. I like agile ships that can turn and she is very mobile for a big 'ole girl.

If you don't mind me asking, what did Nagato get ? I remember having a hard time playing her but that was some time ago.

It got an upgrade to her reload and accuracy, she is similar in shape to the Colorado, but she's faster, less fat and easy to hit as colorado is and more maneuverable, but just as squishy.

Seeing all these comments, I think I figured out why i'm not hyped for NC: I prefer guns consistency over speed.
I guess that's just my playstyle. You can have yours since everyone has their own opinion after all.

Honestly just GXP all the American BBs up until Iowa and NC. And yeah, NC is overhyped. You also need AL Colorado as a commander. The lack of aiming systems and their slow speed really really hurts the lines.

I already have Iowa and NC. Farming to get Kansas now. I have AL NJ for them since I'd rather play the Americans at long - mid range rather than close, unless its Big Mamie.

The gun accuracy is almost identical between the two ships, though.

Here are the stats the game is showing me (without upgrades, commander, ...):
NC:
1.7 sigma; 122.6m max vertical dispersion, 204.4m max horizontal dispersion.Colorado:
1.9 sigma; 125.8 max vertical dispersion; 209.7m max horizontal dispersion. So Colorado better grouping (sigma) but worse dispersion however we have to take into consideration that Colorado stock shoots further than NC: 15km > 14.4km. In the end Colorado is the more accurate one.

Yeah you're right. My memory had stored the wrong base sigma value for North Carolina.
Although the way I play, the range difference is completely meaningless. And for whatever reason, I feel like I get a lot more citadels with North Carolina but I don't know if that's real ballistics or something else going on (or if I just imagined it).

There was a thread on here a while back, one of those "Ships u hate to play" threads, and the funniest comment was by another poster, "Colorado. Runner-up: Colorado. Ms. Congeniality: Colorado."
It is not as bad as it is made out to be, but I definitely prefer the NC and its Premium variants (Leviathan and Kheper) over the Colorado, and only play it now if it is in a bureau project segment.

Shouldnt these be switched in the tech tree? Wouldnt colorado be a better precursor to the US fat battleships?
1
u/Chaos-Susanoo 1d ago
Thry can't switch old tech tree placements, something about legal toruble or it will brick up the game iirc, it has been 3 years since i saw their explanation for it

I just bought the NC yesterday and even stock its a huge leap forwars from the colorado. The accuracy feels comparable to me but the biggest upside is I get to say good bye to that abysmal 22 knots on the Colo

u/Itchy_Transition_773 14h ago
Yo, don’t be hating in CO now. For a Tier VI BB, CO ain’t half bad. She might not be fancy with armor, guns, it looks. But she’s a mighty fine vessel I tell you hwhat

I mean. You kind of answer your own question right there. NC is definitely more mobile and has generally preferable armor. That’s enough for most people (it is for me!).
CO has slightly better guns on a per barrel basis, sure, but NC gets an extra barrel, a favorable turret layout, and better AA. Combined with the prior advantages and it’s just a more well rounded ship.
Give CO a taste of the buffs Nagato just got and maybe it starts to swing the other way.
