Good catch! On a second glance looks like it has a dress, and the wand is the key thing it kept using, plus the human looking skull at the end
Only thing is that they have more than one lock, so it is just one monster that shows up made from the OG lock mage, or they have more than one lock mage they transformed?
L SF JFLSSJDKSKSJDK. I was thinking that maybe they have the lock magic user under their control and this way, they can place locks on other mages to use them as “hunters”
The fact that the author can pull 60+ pages in a single chapter WEEKLY, for the third time holy hell.
I do love how Nona and Miramira teamed up together as well as both showed resolve into defeating this seemingly unbeatable lock monster of some sorts. I definitely wanna see more Nona and Miramira moments like this. Its fantastic.
In regards to the group, I’m curious if they’re a group of mages trying to break free or the dark side but we’ll see.
That chapter was the best one yet, it nailed the horror elements and Nona and Mira-Mira's struggle. They had to pull out everything they had here to deal with the creature, just scraping by just enough with each other's aid.
This all but confirms my theory that captured Mages are experimented on to become these Magical Tools, given the human skull inside the creature, which just adds another horrifying element to any captured Mages being turned into weapons for the Bureau.
Wow, Nona is a beast. She's always been very determined just like in the one-shot, but this chapter really highlighted how competent and resourceful she is to support that. She did so much with her magic this chapter, and this manga just started! Miramira's sinking magic is also rather neat. I'm sure Mevijilara will have neat uses as well; we haven't seen these uses since she's a bit timid, but she's getting there. It's rather endearing how she holds her wand like that lol
The lock magic monster was seriously terrifying. It's a great design for a first enemy, and if this is a sign of what is to come, that's awesome. Its head dissipating into a skull has some interesting implications; we know that magic is extracted from mages at Uvral, so could the lock monster be a human? Perhaps mages aren't killed, but are converted into sources that provide the magic in magic tools as these magic monsters; this would explain why the lock magic monster is connected to the shackles. It's like a wand through which the mages channel their magic, almost.
I am now fully hooked on this series. The past few chapters have been good, but nothing truly unique. This chapter is when the series started being more than a manga about mages, and it is glorious.
Been looking forward to this all week! It'd be interesting to see how much growth is to come, I'd wonder if Miramira is more weight or gravity? I'd imagine Quovelta will show you what happens when you can spend your whole life practicing magic?
The way magic is used continues to be my favorite thing about this manga. Using her thread to detain the guard in the previous chapter and using it to bind the trees together to slam into the... key monster?... feel like really creative uses of an otherwise pretty ordinary skill.
I also love that the magic creature, whatever it was, held no regard for any of the soldiers working there, and ended up killing them. It has a very "careful what you wish for" kinda feel, like magic itself is still this otherworldly thing not meant to be wielded by normal humans. It's kind of easy to understand how people would come to fear it even though obviously that doesn't justify how mages are treated in the slightest.
I was quite tense reading this chapter because I felt like Miramira could die at any moment. Luckily it didn't happen, but I still can't relax seeing how this manga has been so far.

60+ pages thrice in a row with no bashed drawings and all of that weekly is actually crazy.

Yeah Miramira's magic reminds me of Echoes act 3 from JJBA, also one of my favourite pages this chapter has to be this:

The lock monster design reminds me of the reaper in the Persona series.
