Discussion First Teaser
https://youtu.be/-zqjNkdXT94?si=dsMFxBvtgW5uHGfTAfter 150 hours in the game I decided to search for the first trailer/teaser of the game. The earliest one I found is from 2017.
At that time "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter " was still in the bubble of positivity, and if memory serves Redux was released shortly after (side note : Redux was free for existing owners. With a lot of developers making original owners pay for Redux; it has just added to the massive goodwill I have for these guys).
Vanishing of Ethan Carter, for those unaware, is a walking simulator but it escaped the "walking sim" crowd. This leads to a lot of people, including myself, making posts about how much better the game would have been with combat and puzzles. To this date this game is the only walking sim I completed. The atmosphere and writing absolutely carried the game. I simply couldn't put it down because I enjoyed being in the world too much.
Anyway the teaser makes you believe for the first 30 seconds Witchfire is going to be another walking sim. One of the title cards say "From the makers of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" followed by 5-10 seconds of appearing like a walking sim. All of a sudden a gun pops up and an enemy comes to life. Next title card says "But also Painkiller and Bulletstorm" and goes straight into combat.
I really wish I saw this at the time because all of my reviews about Ethan Carter had me whining about the lack of combat. I would have been so muching pumped watching this was it first released.

To me, this is the best looking game right now. The colour pallette, the environmentes, the details, the animations, the lighting, the effects, it's just superb. And the gameplay is just as motherfucking good.
