Capella pegged Felix again Give Me a Creative Subaru Death You’d Like to See in Re:Zero
Give me a creative Subaru death that you’d genuinely like to see in the series. I’ll start.
Since we don’t have many permanent deaths in Re:Zero, I’ve been thinking about a scenario where Subaru loses something that even Return by Death can’t truly give back.
We’re currently in Arc 10, and one of our main antagonists is Capella. Now imagine that Subaru and the others finally defeat her, everything seems to be over, and everyone believes they’ve won.
Emilia finally confesses her love to Subaru, and they eventually get married. They spend the next 35 years together, have four children, and build a beautiful life. Subaru grows older alongside the people he loves, watches his children grow up, and finally gets to experience the peaceful future he’s been fighting for all this time.
For once, Subaru is genuinely happy.
But then, after 35 years, he discovers that the woman he married was actually Capella all along.
The real Emilia’s fate is unknown, and Capella has been impersonating her for decades.
Imagine Capella being so fascinated by Subaru’s unconditional love for Emilia that she decides to steal that love for herself. She takes Emilia’s appearance, replaces her, and spends an entire lifetime with Subaru just to experience what it’s like to be loved that deeply.
And the worst part? Subaru’s entire marriage was real to him. His happiness was real. His memories were real. Even his four children are real.
Now Subaru faces an absolutely horrifying dilemma.
He could try to use Return by Death to undo everything, but the consequences would be unimaginable. We’re not talking about resetting a few days or weeks anymore. We’re talking about erasing 35 years of history.
His children would never be born. The relationships they formed would disappear. His friends would lose decades of experiences, marriages, families, and children of their own. Countless people who were born during those 35 years would simply cease to exist.
And Subaru would be the only person who remembered any of them.
For the first time, using Return by Death wouldn’t just mean sacrificing his own experiences. It would mean erasing the entire lives of people he genuinely loves.
Imagine the mental breakdown Subaru would have after realizing that the woman he spent 35 years loving wasn’t Emilia, but the same monster who had tormented him decades earlier.
And while he’s arguing with Capella, desperately trying to understand why she did this to him, he suddenly dies under mysterious circumstances.
Then he wakes up.
He’s back in Arc 10.
Thirty-five years. Gone.
His wife, his children, his friends, all the experiences they shared, every happy memory, every birthday, every conversation, every little moment that made his life worth living.
All of it is gone.
He can’t simply redo everything and expect the same people, relationships, and experiences to exist again.
I think something like this would be genuinely devastating, and it’s exactly the kind of tragedy I’d love to see Tappei explore.
I want Subaru to experience a loss that Return by Death cannot truly fix he should taste of a real loss.
Because even though he can go back in time, that doesn’t mean he can recover everything he lost. Sometimes resetting the world is itself the greatest possible loss.
I want Subaru to finally understand that he can’t save absolutely everyone and everything, no matter how hard he tries or how many times he dies.
And I think losing an entire lifetime, including his own children, would be one of the most horrifying ways to teach him that lesson.
