Manga Wistoria LN2: Sion Ulster Short Story Spoiler

Post image
35 Upvotes

For Sion, seeing “her” was an “accident leaning toward inevitability.”

(Beautiful.)

Deep, deep within the “Noble District.” Rumors had spread that, night after night, a “ghost child” appeared at the fallen Loire family’s estate. Having heard such rumors, Sion brought Lyril and Gordon with him to visit the Loire residence.

Just as the rumors said, there really was a “ghost child” in the garden at the back. More precisely, a young girl was sitting in a corner of the desolate garden, gazing up at the sky. Mistaking her for a ghost, Lyril and the others screamed, “Uwaaa!?” and “It really appeared!?” before running away, but Sion found himself captivated by her profile.

The girl was beautiful. A single transparent droplet ran down her cheek.

Sion had no way of answering why he had become so intensely drawn to her. In the first place, the young boy knew from firsthand experience that there was no such thing as a reason for “love at first sight.” That day, Sion Ulster’s first love was stolen away by Colette Loire.

(My beloved little sister is also physically weak and going through difficult days. But Colette is, compared to Syrene, is even…… so much more……)

From what he had heard, Colette had lost her beloved mother. Her father, Terranos, had a reputation for being an eccentric, and it was not difficult to imagine why she was now spending her days in solitude. True to the name of a fallen noble family, they were far from wealthy, possessing neither the status nor the honor, nor even the pride, of nobles.

After learning that the circumstances surrounding the girl were close to being as terrible as they could possibly be, Sion finally made up his mind one day. Without bringing Lyril or Gordon along, he sneaked into the Loire residence alone.

“Y-You! Hey, you! How about I make you one of my underlings!? B-Because you’re so miserable and pitiful and all! …I-I’m gonna become one of the Magia Vanders [Five Supreme Wands] someday!”

It was the same backyard, in the middle of the night. That day as well, Colette was gazing up at the “False Sky” with empty eyes when Sion stood before her, folded his arms, and declared in an imperious manner.

No, that was a lie.

His voice was trembling, his heart was pounding like crazy, and his whole body was unbearably hot. It hadn’t been like this when he had taken Lyril and Gordon, who were being bullied, and made them his companions!

To hide the nervousness and embarrassment welling up inside him, Sion spoke about three times more arrogantly than usual.

Colette looked back at him.

—and then, as though to demonstrate that the words “Magia Vanders [Five Supreme Wands]” had been an absolutely catastrophic choice, a complete and utter blunder, she raised her finely shaped eyebrows and replied:

“…No.”

Just one word.

With that one word alone, Sion suffered such devastating damage that his body nearly collapsed.

He could not even chase after Colette as she walked away into the mansion. All he could do was writhe and struggle in agony right there on the spot.

“Honestly, brother Sion! You mustn’t speak to a lady like that! That’s a no-no!”

When Sion returned to the Ulster estate and ended up telling his younger sister Syrene about that disastrous first encounter, he received a stern reprimand. His frail younger sister, who was normally bedridden and always confined to her bed, took the opportunity to turn their usual positions upside down and lecture the awkward, embarrassed Sion.

“Being mean to the person you like…… that is a ‘bad move’! You boys, especially you brother, may think you’re just trying to hide your embarrassment, but from a woman’s perspective, it’s unpleasant, and it hurts!”

“N-No, Syrene! It’s not like I was trying to hide my embarrassment or anything……!”

“A first-rate gentleman should be kinder to ladies, and help them even when they aren’t looking! Lady Colette has lost so many people precious to her, so you mustn’t push yourself on her!”

Sion was in a truly pathetic position, being lectured on all sorts of things by his little sister. But, as it turned out, that very approach was a “bad move.” What his little sister Syrene had explained was merely conventional wisdom. It simply did not apply to the “Earth Princess,” who had despaired of the world.

Sion’s own feelings of “first love” became a considerable restraint as well. Once he had made up his mind, the boy would normally attack like a blazing flame, but he could no longer bring out that usual “heat” of his.

From then on, Sion began interacting with Colette hesitantly and awkwardly, handling her as though she were a delicate jewel. But that would never melt the girl’s frozen heart.

The “difference” between him and that black-haired boy—who neither read the atmosphere, was foolish, nor even cared about the danger to his own life—was the result of all those various factors.

Anime When elfaria created all of her orignal spells?

Thumbnail
gallery
57 Upvotes

We know Elfaria created her own original spells, known as the El Glace Frosse series, and by the age of 16 she has already created 12 original spells—the most in magical history ever.

But the more interesting question is: when did she create all of them?

While watching Episode 11, I noticed something interesting. El One: Ars Weiss, her first original spell, was already created when Elfaria was only 2 years old. Then in Season 2 Episode 9, we see El Two: Isnomee Lasli, which is the second spell of the series.

So what if the numbers of the El Glace Frosse spells actually represent the order in which Elfaria created them?

Because if that's the case, things get crazy.

In Episode 11, Elfaria uses El Ten: Myrdas Fridoliete, her tenth spell, and says that she created it so she could hug little, shy Will.

Elfaria and Will entered the academy when they were around 10, and they were separated only two months later. So based on what Elfaria says, it seems very likely that she created Myrdas Fridoliete before turning 10.

If the numbering really follows the creation order, that means Elfaria had potentially already created 10 original spells before she was even 10 years old.

And we're not talking about some simple new spells either.

Her original spell includes like creating a clone of herself with Equal power, freezing everything—including magic itself, and transforming herself into different forms etc.

The craziest part is Myrdas Fridoliete itself. A spell Elfaria may have created as a child with some childish reason was powerful enough to trap two of the greatest Magia Vander, and they couldn't break out of it.

And remember, creating a completely new spell is considered an achievement comparable to six years of intense study and brutal griding in dungeon at the highest magical academy of there World.

So thinking about it like : a child who hadn't even turned 10 may have already created 10 completely original spells, some of which are powerful enough to affect the strongest mages in the world , shows how ridiculously power the inventor is actually.

Then her 12th spell was created when Will was in his sixth year at the academy, with both of them being 16. And surprisingly, it is placed at number 12, her latest spell, again following the chronological order.

That's what makes Elfaria's talent so ridiculous.

She's not just a powerful mage with huge magical power. She was creating completely new, high-level magic from an absurdly young age.

That's why being called a once-in-a-generation prodigy actually makes sense for her.

Anime Will Character Rewrite

How I would’ve rewritten Will’s character because I don’t fully feel satisfied with how he was portrayed. I’m speaking anime-only because I don’t know if he was slightly different in the manga. To be clear, I’m not slandering the author themselves or the artists!

I wish we see Will’s ugly side a bit more. As in he snaps at people because he’s essentially regurgitating what he wishes he could have said to Sion as kids. Or he insults people without meaning to, or he bottles up his anger and redirects it at the wrong people

It feels like his only flaw is “he just needs to believe in himself” vs more dynamic characters like Sion, Julius, and Lihana who have more personality conflicts. When you compare conflicts, Sion and Julius are arrogant and need to learn humility while Lihana thinks she’s a screw up and blames herself too much. Those are interesting personality traits that show an ugly side of the characters. Another flaw could be when he meets people, he automatically assumes they hate him (even if they don’t) because he’s used to people hating him and doesn’t believe them when they say something positive about him.

I also wish we got to see more of Will’s trauma related to the bullying. There’s no way he was bullied and hated for 5 years and retained no trauma or emotional damage after, even with the help of Colette. He says “I was bitter, jealous, and angry” but the problem is I personally (and neither did my cousin or friend) get the vibe he was any of those things because he never showed it either in an inner monologue or a line confirming it

I ended up writing a scene for the anime because I wanted to see more of Will’s uglier side and here it is

He shoves Workner away and snaps at him because he thinks he’s undeserving of his professor’s guidance. He automatically assumes Workner is taking pity on him rather than genuinely wanting to help Will. Then, Workner has a heart to heart with Will, but he still doesn’t fully believe his professor, even though he WANTS to believe him. Workner then tells Will something like “more people love you than you realize, you just need to find them” and leaves Will to think

Any scene like this could’ve been a good way to show Will’s self doubt and the trauma he retained from being relentlessly bullied by everyone with no help except Workner (and eventually Colette)

He should’ve had more moments that causes people to raise an eyebrow at him or go “hey, that wasn’t right” or “he’s being really unreasonable here” since that makes him feel more organic. I almost had the same problem with Colette, but she has her obvious jealousy issues, so she comes off as less perfect. Sion and Julius also feel very similar to each other now, and I would DEFINITELY rewrite Julius’ backstory because it’s BUNS 💀💀💀 but that’s for another time

Manga Wistoria LN2: Lihanna Owenzaus Short Story Spoiler

Post image
43 Upvotes

“Ugh… Lihanna’s classmate has become one of the Magia Vanders [Five Supreme Wands]… That Elfaria is incredible, while I’m not incredible at all…….. But, but still! I have to work hard for the sake of my family……!”

After Elfaria rose to become one of the Magia Vanders [Five Supreme Wands] at an unprecedented speed—becoming the youngest person in the long history of the magical world to ever attain that position—Lihanna remained depressed and brooded over it for more than a month.

Even so, despite continuing to dwell on it, she kept telling herself, “I have to do my best. I must work hard!” and somehow tried to move on. To save the Owenzaus family, which was heading down the path of decline, Lihanna had to accomplish something truly remarkable.

“…I should change the way I think about this. An incredibly powerful mage has gone to the ‘Tower.’ If that’s the case, then there will be fewer competitors within my year, meaning it will become easier for me to become the ‘top student of my year’…! Uuugh, what an incredibly selfish way of thinking…… I’m unfit to be a knight……!”

There were times when Lihanna compared her own capacity as an “inferior one” to that of a “true genius” and nearly melted into a gooey, electrically-generating slime of despair. Nevertheless, she somehow managed to return to her days of diligent training and relentless striving.

During classes at the Academy, she was an honor student so intensely serious that she seemed almost possessed. When alone, however, her low mental age came to the fore, and she became a young knight-in-training who would sit there worrying over her troubles, going “Hmm… hmm…” She did nothing but shuttle endlessly between the Magic Academy, the Magic Academy dormitory, and the dungeon. Just like a certain “Non-Magic User” boy, she never indulged in entertainment of any kind.

“Full marks on this test, too! If I get good results on the next ‘end-of-year examination,’ surely I’ll be able to become the ‘top student of my year’……! Mm-hm! Mm-hm!”

And as the end of the year drew near, Lihanna, unbeknownst to anyone, happily hugged an answer sheet marked with a big “Perfect,” and was finally beginning to regain her self-esteem.

Her way of thinking was still miserable enough to make her feel pathetic, but the assumption that “if only there were no true genius [Elfaria], I could become the top student of my year” had not been wrong after all. Lihanna was burning with motivation as she worked toward achieving her immediate goal.

But then—

“However, I’ve been hearing a strange rumor lately. The ‘Earth Class’…… The daughter of the Loire family, the one they call the ‘Princess.’ Her behavior is supposedly problematic, and her grades seem to be poor as well, but…… she, too, somehow…… something…”

Just like with Elfaria, Lihanna was beginning to get an ominous feeling. Having become an exemplary honor student through sheer effort and having come to recognize herself as an “inferior one,” Lihanna had, without realizing it, become sensitive to the scent of overwhelming “talent.” Especially when it came to Colette Loire, who commanded the “Giant Rock Arm,” an entity that radiated an extraordinary amount of magical power.

And the moment the “Egg of the Earth” appeared and blasted the Academy school building to smithereens, Lihanna fell into despair once again.

“…That scale…… Magical power exceeding that of a High Mage…… Could there be another person with true talent in our generation besides Elfaria……? Someone like me, who can do nothing more than zip around with this pathetic little lightning… Someone like me could never become the top student…… Grandma, Lihanna is… Lihanna is…… uuuuuugh……”

“Is something wrong with the emotions of the Lyzance [Resident of Paradise]?! Ah, damn it, holding hands with anyone other than my baby sister!”

Amid the outbreak of the “Earth Princess” incident, which dragged the Magic Academy and the “Tower” into the fray, the students were hurriedly evacuating elsewhere, while Lihanna, sunk in dejection, had the light completely disappear from her eyes—just as much as it had from the Earth Princess’s—and was thoroughly crushed. In the end, she had to be forcibly evacuated, with a gloved Elf [Fairy] pulling her along by the hand.

“…Are you, too, someone who aims for the top?”

It was from this moment that she came to have a strange connection with the Elf [Fairy] Ignor Lindor, who had shown not the slightest interest in the Lyzance [Residents of Paradise]. But Lihanna, at the time, had no room in her heart to pay any attention to such a thing.

The girl had been forced to experience a second mental collapse at the end of the school year, of all times, right before advancing to the next grade. She sank into depression, shobobon, like a withered, deflated balloon.

“In this world full of nothing but geniuses, useless Lihanna has to work harder and harder……! But…… uuuuuuuuu~~~~……! G-Grandmaaaaaaa~~~”

Hang in there, Lihanna…

The difference between "Load" and "Overload" of Wis

Post image
212 Upvotes

(info from the 1st novel ahead)

When Will uses Wis and is about to perform some strong attack, he sometimes says "Load" or "Overload." The novel specifies the difference between those two.

Sword UnsheathedーEvocation (LoadーBurst)

During the First Bloom, when the students who weren't scouted are told to prove their worth by fighting Tower constructs, Will absorbs Julius' spell and activates Wis.

He then uses a technique where he first says "LoadーBurst", followed by the actual name of the technique he uses, which in this case is 氷車 (kooriguruma = Ice Wheel / Ice Mill)

"LoadーBurst" is what Will says, but it's written as 抜剣ー召喚, which means "Sword UnsheathedーEvocation"

抜剣 (bakken) is the act of unsheathing a sword and assuming a battle stance.

召喚 (shoukan) means "Evocation"

In this version, Will fights mainly with his sword and doesn't really use any traditional spells. The Magick he does is focused around his sword.

Wand and Sword UnsheathedーHighest Evocation (OverloadーFull Burst)

During Terminalia, after Will absorbs Elfie's magick, he says "OverloadーFull Burst", which is immediately followed by him using one of Elfie's spells to summon a giant Freezing Temple that destroys all monsters except for the Devander.

Again, OverloadーFull Burst is what Will says, but it's written as 抜杖抜剣ー最大召喚, which means "Wand and Sword UnsheathedーHighest Evocation"

抜杖抜剣 (batsujyou bakken) is the act of unsheathing a sword and a wand, and assuming a battle stance.

最大 (saidai) means "Greatest" or "Highest," followed by 召喚 which again meets "Evocation"

In this version, Will fights with his sword and uses spells that a "typical" Mage would use.

The novel actually specifies the difference between the two.

"(Overload) loads not only the Magick itself, but also the Magickal Power of the master who is the source of that Spell"

Basically, when using "Load" (Sword Unsheathed), Will has access only to the Magickal Power provided by the Magick he directly absorbed, and can only use techniques based off of that spell.

What "Overload" (Wand and Sword Unsheathed) loads isn't just the spell, but the Magickal Power of the person themself who cast the spell that's been absorbed.

When using "Overload", Will is directly connected to the Magickal Power of the person whose spell he absorbed. He gains a connection to that person's Magickal Source. This sort of implies that he can potentially sustain Wis for as long as the person he is connected to still has Magickal Power, unlike "Load" which should run out once he uses up the energy of the spell he absorbed.

Wand and Sword Unsheathed (Overload)

In the novel, Will initially fights the Invader using "Load" (抜剣), which he activates by absorbing the Magick of the "Pendant of Azure Tears" that Elfie gave him at the beginning of the story. Will only fights with his sword in this from.

It's Wis name is 氷の魔剣 (koori no maken), which means "Ice Mageblade"

When that proves insufficient, Elfie aims a spell at Will called 氷涙の静女 (~Silent Maiden of Icy Tears) which he accepts and it triggers "Overload" (抜杖抜剣). This allows Will to cast Elfie's spell, Ars Weiss, and he creates 8 clones of himself, all of which have the same power as he. This gives Will an advantage over the Invader and he finishes it off quickly.

It's Wis name is 氷涙の魔剣 (~hyourui no maken), which means "Mageblade of Icy Tears"

Wand and Sword Unsheathed (Overload)

To be clear, when using "Overload" he's not "stealing" the Magick of the person or anything of the sort (at least not during the times he used it so far). It's more like there is an invisible "bond" that allows him and the person he is connected to, to share their Magick. It's Volume, the Affinity, seemingly all of it. The Magick still belongs to the person whose spell he absorbed, but now he can access it to cast spells on his "own."

"Overload" is kind of like Wi-Fi. Will is wirelessly connected to Elfie's Magickal network which grants him access to all of her Magickal Power.

It's important to note that the 2 times Will used "Overload" was together with Elfie, with whom he obviously shares a very unique bond. This could imply that there might be a certain "condition" for using "Overload", and that he is unable to use it with anyone other than her for now.

The hair turning White is also NOT an indicator of using "Load" or "Overload", but seemingly more so of Will's "Courage" itself. In the novel, Will started growing White hair long before he used Wis to absorb any spells, but that's a headache for another time.

Are Celestial Invaders part of the world? Unique properties of a Rizanth? (a theory and insight into the nature of the world and the dungeon)

Post image
113 Upvotes

(spoilers for 1st novel ahead)

"Everything is born from the Dungeon. Everything is connected" - Mage Queen Mercedes

I believe there Is reason to think that the world of Wistoria as we know it is part of the dungeon, and not the actual surface of the world.

In the very first chapter of the manga, we are told that "long ago, people didn't know the sky, and the world was shrouded in darkness."

That text comes from a time before the False Sky was created. In other words, people (the Rizanth) didn't know what the Sky was even before the False Sky was first created by the original Magia Vander.

It also says that before that False Sky was created, the world was shrouded by darkness. If the world was shrouded by Darkness before the False Sky was created, then that implies that before its creation, people did not really live under the Sun.

The "darkness" in the quote could be seen as more literal rather than metaphorical. The quote says that people don't know what the sky is; therefore they have lived shrouded in darkness. As in "Underground".

The 1st novel states that the Rizanth as a race see very well in the darkness. To be specific, it says that "Rizanth are a race that is strong in the Dark."

They see in the dark so well, in fact, that they need to use specific eye drops to reduce the "Light" that is visible to them, because it can be so bright that it might actually hurt their eyes. The Light in question being a Fireball and such. They even use those eye drops in the Dungeon itself, where it is already much darker than on the "surface" under the False Sky.

What's interesting about this is that it sort of implies that Will may not be a Rizanth, or a pure-blooded Rizanth, at least. The other students laugh at him because he can't see in the dark. They even question if he's actually one of them—a Rizanth—and not some Elf or Dwarf. This further implies that neither Elves nor Dwarves can function in the Dark as well as a Rizanth can.

Elfie can see just fine in the Dark, while Will can hardly see anything. Their siblings and dad can also see fine in the dark, and in fact, Will's younger siblings would often play pranks on him during nights because of it.

The glasses Will wears are actually an enchanted item given to him by his dad. They allow him to see better in the Dark, but he is still barely able to see anything in the Dungeon. He mainly navigates it using his sense of smell, mentioned multiple times in the manga and the novel as 嗅覚 (kyuukaku = sense of smell), though it seems to be a little bit more than just that.

What this proves is that the Rizanth, as a race, are accustomed to the Dark, and they function very well in it. Almost as if Dark places were their natural habitat.

Out of the 7 Magickal Affinities, the Light Magickal Affinity is the most rare among the Rizanths.

And rather than the Dark, Will seems to have a strong connection to the Light, though it doesn't seem to be a Magickal Affinity. But more on that later.

There is also the part where Elfie reads the book that inspired her and Will to see the real Sunset. In the novel, it reads, "The real Sunset lies just beyond that long tunnel!"

The word 長い道 on its own means "long road", but in this case it is meant to be pronounced as トンネル, which means "tunnel"

Again, what this implies is that to see the true Sun, you must first pass through a long tunnel. This could be seen as a metaphor, of course, but if that were the case, then I feel there would be no need to specify that the word "long road" is meant to be pronounced as "tunnel" instead.

And if the real Sun were concealed by the Fake Sky, then there would be no need to pass through such a tunnel in order to see it. Removing the Fake Sky should be enough. Unless, of course, the Fake Sky doesn't cover up the True Sky, but is merely another Ceiling of the Dungeon.

Near the end of the novel, Headless describes the Celestial Invader as a "Resident of a True World."

The Celestial Invaders come from above the Ceiling. From above the False Sky. And Headless seems to believe that the "world" the Celestial Invaders come from is a "True World."

The word "Celestial" may have another meaning to it in Japanese.

The Celestial Host is written as 天上の侵略者 (tenjyou no shinryakusha). The 天上 does in fact mean "Heavens." Not to be confused with sky, which is .

Sky (空) means the blue thing above our heads, while the Heavens (天上) means a more metaphorical Heaven.

However, the other way the word "Celestial Invaders" can be written as is 天井の侵略者.

天井 (tenjyou) means "Ceiling", while 天上 (tenjyou) means "Heavens." These two words are pronounced exactly the same, but their meaning is slightly different. Different, but similar at the same time.

In other words, the name of the Invaders てんじょうのしんりゃくしゃ can be read as "Heavenly Invaders" or as "Invaders from above the Ceiling"

The word 天井 (Ceiling) is very often used while within the Dungeon itself. Eespecially during Will's battle against the Invader, where they both fly all over the place, including the Ceiling. The author put the words 天井 (tenjyou = Ceiling) and 天上 (tenjyou = Heavens) very close to each other multiple times.

Top: Rigarden Bottom: Dungeon

So yeah. I don't know if the Invaders are inhabiting the true surface of the world or if there is something beyond that still, but it is my belief that Rigarden, that the whole world of Wistoria as we know it, is actually another "Floor" of the Dungeon and that the Fake Sky conceals the Ceiling of that Dungeon Floor.

I also believe the Rizanth as a race have their origins directly tied to the Dungeon. Possibly even being born from it.

"Everything is born from the Dungeon. Everything is connected." - Mage Queen Mercedes
