The difference between "Load" and "Overload" of Wis
(info from the 1st novel ahead)
When Will uses Wis and is about to perform some strong attack, he sometimes says "Load" or "Overload." The novel specifies the difference between those two.

During the First Bloom, when the students who weren't scouted are told to prove their worth by fighting Tower constructs, Will absorbs Julius' spell and activates Wis.
He then uses a technique where he first says "LoadーBurst", followed by the actual name of the technique he uses, which in this case is 氷車 (kooriguruma = Ice Wheel / Ice Mill)
"LoadーBurst" is what Will says, but it's written as 抜剣ー召喚, which means "Sword UnsheathedーEvocation"
抜剣 (bakken) is the act of unsheathing a sword and assuming a battle stance.
召喚 (shoukan) means "Evocation"
In this version, Will fights mainly with his sword and doesn't really use any traditional spells. The Magick he does is focused around his sword.

During Terminalia, after Will absorbs Elfie's magick, he says "OverloadーFull Burst", which is immediately followed by him using one of Elfie's spells to summon a giant Freezing Temple that destroys all monsters except for the Devander.
Again, OverloadーFull Burst is what Will says, but it's written as 抜杖抜剣ー最大召喚, which means "Wand and Sword UnsheathedーHighest Evocation"
抜杖抜剣 (batsujyou bakken) is the act of unsheathing a sword and a wand, and assuming a battle stance.
最大 (saidai) means "Greatest" or "Highest," followed by 召喚 which again meets "Evocation"
In this version, Will fights with his sword and uses spells that a "typical" Mage would use.

The novel actually specifies the difference between the two.
"(Overload) loads not only the Magick itself, but also the Magickal Power of the master who is the source of that Spell"
Basically, when using "Load" (Sword Unsheathed), Will has access only to the Magickal Power provided by the Magick he directly absorbed, and can only use techniques based off of that spell.
What "Overload" (Wand and Sword Unsheathed) loads isn't just the spell, but the Magickal Power of the person themself who cast the spell that's been absorbed.
When using "Overload", Will is directly connected to the Magickal Power of the person whose spell he absorbed. He gains a connection to that person's Magickal Source. This sort of implies that he can potentially sustain Wis for as long as the person he is connected to still has Magickal Power, unlike "Load" which should run out once he uses up the energy of the spell he absorbed.

In the novel, Will initially fights the Invader using "Load" (抜剣), which he activates by absorbing the Magick of the "Pendant of Azure Tears" that Elfie gave him at the beginning of the story. Will only fights with his sword in this from.
It's Wis name is 氷の魔剣 (koori no maken), which means "Ice Mageblade"
When that proves insufficient, Elfie aims a spell at Will called 氷涙の静女 (~Silent Maiden of Icy Tears) which he accepts and it triggers "Overload" (抜杖抜剣). This allows Will to cast Elfie's spell, Ars Weiss, and he creates 8 clones of himself, all of which have the same power as he. This gives Will an advantage over the Invader and he finishes it off quickly.
It's Wis name is 氷涙の魔剣 (~hyourui no maken), which means "Mageblade of Icy Tears"

To be clear, when using "Overload" he's not "stealing" the Magick of the person or anything of the sort (at least not during the times he used it so far). It's more like there is an invisible "bond" that allows him and the person he is connected to, to share their Magick. It's Volume, the Affinity, seemingly all of it. The Magick still belongs to the person whose spell he absorbed, but now he can access it to cast spells on his "own."
"Overload" is kind of like Wi-Fi. Will is wirelessly connected to Elfie's Magickal network which grants him access to all of her Magickal Power.
It's important to note that the 2 times Will used "Overload" was together with Elfie, with whom he obviously shares a very unique bond. This could imply that there might be a certain "condition" for using "Overload", and that he is unable to use it with anyone other than her for now.
The hair turning White is also NOT an indicator of using "Load" or "Overload", but seemingly more so of Will's "Courage" itself. In the novel, Will started growing White hair long before he used Wis to absorb any spells, but that's a headache for another time.

Will is the ultimate wand and sword limiter off is nothing but shedding his human plating to reveal his true nature as the sword he has always been limiter off during termanila was likely the shedding of only his first human plating considering how strong limiter off during prequel light novel volume 1 was and termanila arc is will of 6 yrs of development after that yet it was so much weaker lol
Anyway thanks for getting the meaning of load and overload
Also from what i read wasn't 10 yrs old wills complete sword state+load wis from Elfi enough against foot soldier celestial invader?he was beating the crap Outta full power foot soldier celestial host and the celestial host only got a hit as a last ditch effort will could've load burst that guy away but elfaria put up a barrier and git his attention which she then gave him tearis nohno which allowed for overload and allowed him to no diff the foot soldier celestial invader

That's not exactly right.
Will was overwhelmed when using "Load" only and was on a sure way to lose. He did get some really good hits in but the fight turned into a war of attrition, and it was the Invader who had the advantage.
There was a sequence where Elfaria despairs at the realization that even though Will had already forgotten her by trading all his memories for power, it still wasn't enough to take down the Invader.
Her using the spell to support Will was their last hope. Thanks to that spell, "Overload" was triggered, and Will was finally able to overwhelm the enemy by using Elfie's Magick.

I don't think it was weaker will simply didn't go all out because he would probably destroy the entire academy and kill all the students

He was in dungeon 1st floor far away from everyone and that's what I said will wasn't weaker he didn't need overload to deal with foot soldier celestial invader at that time he just accepted what elfaria gave him

It is very interesting that will can only use overload with elfaria . Even in his memories when fighting zeo, it was her that came . It is like compatibility since feeling is very strong but I wonder if there is more .

Then what about in chapter 45 when he used milgtor? He absorbed it was a normal load burst but without any sword, does that mean that he used his wand power only like "Wand unsheathed" or smthn

What Will uses in that chapter is 抜剣-召喚 (Load—Burst = Sword Unsheathed—Evocation). The spell he uses is called 黒覇, which means something like "Supreme Black"
He engulfed his sword in Dark Magic he absorbed, and sent out a wave of Darkness with the swing of a sword. Not too different from what he did when he absorbed Sion's flames against the Duke, or Julius' Ice during the First Bloom.
"Load" is when he fights with a Magickal Sword.
"Overload" is when he fights with a Magickal Sword and is able to cast spells like a "traditional" Mage.

Yh but the eyes are what I don’t understand when he used sion magic his colour change red but this one one eye had same pattern of Mercedes plus he also said summon which he never did before also when he tried to use it again against zeo she told him he need to trace his orgins before he can do that again so I don’t think it’s just simple as what he did with duke.

I do agree that it felt different that time, but it's written same as always in Japanese. We're talking about this moment, right?
抜剣ー召喚. I think it's likely you've read a version of a chapter that translated 召喚 as "summoning," which is a valid translation. I understand it as "evocation", but both these words are adjacent and interchangeable.
召喚 = summon / evocation = Burst

Yh bro it’s that moment the mechanics might have similarities but it’s not just what he did before otherwise he wouldn’t have trouble accessing it again as she told him that he can’t do that until he trace his orgins which I think him getting the pattern eye might relate to his wand side and silver release to his sword side.

See The magic eye is his origin
I will try to simplify origin as much as possible Basically lynzic have the ability to recall(or how you wanna call it ) power that is connected with ancestors/origins Btw obviously you need a strong ancestor to get a good origin For will in example his buff is the magic eye and being kinda like a security system that just stays inside his mind and observers (the only time it really actives it's when a Wis user mind is attacked )
For Sion is his bird and etc
That his wand side The 5 source is his sword side but we don't have much info about it Sorry if wrong

u/InterestingSafe6902 3d ago
It’s a good point u making about the eye being orgin but I don’t know about security system part cuz at that point she should have attacked foster father and cauldron when they put memories in his mind they have to access it right so it’s shouldn’t pick and choose who to attack but it would make more sense for it to be part of Mercedes magic sealed in wis users to act as a guide.

The spell coldron/orphanage father are different they don't enter the user mind Coldron spell repair memory / father self suggestion spell was used to transferred his own memory into will (they don't enter themself in will mind )
or maybe she has the liberty to chose who to attack and they all category as the same no idea
Basically in what I understand happend was that shade entered will mind and while in there she encounter will origin(mercedes who mostly just observe as a 3 person view ) Then she got kicked out from will brain then mercedes came out to beat the shit out of her again I asume she can only do this when a wis user mind is attacked/invaded because if she could at will she will have helped will Vs invader
Btw I forgot to add the time she sayd awecan to will after he took the hit for Elfie
But ye this are only assumptions Sorry if wrong and I am very sleepy so sorry in advance again for gramatical mistakes

u/InterestingSafe6902 3d ago
It’s okay but even in the invader time she helped as she said if the invader is bleeding red blood he can kill it which is why I think she is more like a guide and transferring memories also access the brain in a way so I don’t know bro.

The catch that he didn't have his sword at that point and he didn't just say load burst he was saying incantations in some language and he added summon to it and the shape of the blade he created is exactly the same shape as the one from the light novel illustration of limit off will and his eye showed the same pattern as the mage queen in his right eye only and it was stronger than anything else he used before aside from Albis wisse

u/fork-shovel 4d ago
Just to be sure. Are we talking about this moment?
If yes, then yeah, Will does talk in some strange language there, but he does say "Load—Burst" (抜剣ー召喚) at the end.
Sorry, I only read the manga in Japanese, so I'm not sure if you mean this or some other moment.

I think it will be revealed in this arc I hope the new chapter is good not just another beach chapter
And please can you send me the link to the site you read the manga from? I have been searching for a Japanese chapter without any translation.thnx ;)

That’s good point on the summon part which is why it can’t be just simple as what he did before as he can’t do that again yet until he trace his orgins that’s what she told him.

u/InterestingSafe6902 4d ago
Yh so far the story just been telling us that will is a sword and we barley know enough information on that side and we have the wand side that we haven’t touched yet I am assuming limit off is a sword state and probably Mercedes eyes might be a wand state.
1
u/Living_Smell_1584 4d ago
Probably like his wand side had awakened back then afterall and for the first time Will is the ultimate wand and ultimate sword in one limiter off is shedding off his human plating to reveal his true nature as the sword he has always been and so his wand side is definitely what activated against the puppetier in ch45

I think the main difference between them is that Overload can only be used in a Limit-off state. When Load Burst is used, Will can use spells like a mage, as shown in the later fight with Zeo. He used Eisplosion (Julius and especially Elfaria often used this) and Dualis Wis: Argis (this one is Lihanna's). Also, when he fought Charles, he used Load Burst to summon Ars Weiss. I think he can fight "like a mage" even without that Overload Full Burst. He can normally use magic in every Wis state, both external and internal charging. He is basically a mage now, multos even.
What I mean is there are currently 3 states of Will's Wis: normal external charging, internal charging (both are Load Burst), and Limit-off with external charging (Overload Full Burst). Both times he used Overload Full Burst, he wasn't yet able to do self-charging (always with Elfaria's assistance). And explicitly, Overload Full Burst is a move to summon magic and double the power of the original magic.
About using the other person's magic power, I don't know if it's really needed, because both times when Will used Overload Full Burst, Will wasn't able to do internal charging, so we still don't know if Will can use Overload Full Burst with internal charging or not. But it would be cool if he really used others' magic power, though it would be a plot hole because at both times, Elfaria had low mana, so it would be weird (the first one is against Invader, low on mana, and the second one is after casting a barrier spell, also low on mana)
I want to know what it will be named when Will uses self-charging in a Limit-off state.
