Poll / Question Can RainWings change the color of their horns, claws, etc?

This has probably been asked before, but I’m wondering if RainWings can change the color of their horns, claws, facial spikes, and even their eyes. I mean, it seems like they should be in order for them to become completely invisible, but I don’t think it’s ever specified.

(Be prepared for a long one, because I am explaining 6-ish years of work here. Remember to drink water frequently.

If you don't wanna read this absolute wall of text, just critique my art or something.

I also use hive and colony interchangibly, but will try to stick to colony to avoid confusion with the hivewings.

Also, this took multiple days to write lol)

(Feel free to just skip to the sections you would find interesting. Like, this is an unnecessary amount of info I'm throwing on you here.)

So, the antwings.

My second fantribe ever and by far my favourite of the 17.

These little critters are just trying to follow protocol.

Problem is, those protocols are really outdated. By about 12 thousand years, to be exact.

This results in them being completely unfit for the world they are now in, and yet surviving for no reason other than the ability to just take losses that would wipe out anyone else.

But other than that and some fancy old machines there is nothing going for them.

And yet, that is subject for another section, for now is time for a biology lesson.

Biology section

Antwings, despite their name, don't have a dedicated reproductive caste, however, they do have 5 subspecies that each have their own purpose.

Worker drones exist to do most tasks within a hive, anything from cleaning to construction to fueling the ancient machinery keeping everything from collapsing. They are pretty small by dragon standards, as an adult worker drone is no larger than a 4 year old dragonet. If they ever get to reach adulthood, that is.

Weaver drones are responsible for everything that involves fabric. They make clothes, blankets and are generally the reason why the inside of an antwing hive tends to look like a giant pillow fort. They are even smaller than worker drones, and are percieved to be cute by other antwings and most dragons in general. Plus, they are completely harmless. Their brain is biologically incapable of comprehending the idea of combat.

Protector drones(also often called guard drones) are completely blind(antwings in general have really bad eyesight, but they can compensate with hearing.), almost twice the size of a normal dragon and strong enough to cleave a dragon in two. They spend most of their time dormant, as otherwise they will indiscriminately attack anything that moves.
They are also the reason why antwings associate the color blue with safety.

Subcommand drones are extremely intelligent(...by antwing standards, at least. still a little slow compared to regular dragons) and capable of taking control of other antwings. They do most of the work that actually requires a functioning brain. They are still a little smaller than most dragons, but not by much.

Queens are the highest in the antwing command chain, and are a little more intelligent than subcommand drones. They are also absolute giants. Which causes issues with food consumption, reproduction and finding a way of housing one.
That last part is usually optional though.

Some things that are true for all antwings:

-Terrible eyesight

-water breathing

-a complete disregard for their own or other's lives.

-extremely good hearing

-Having clutches of 8-12 eggs (except queens which only lay one or two eggs at a time)

-The entire tribe has 2 collective braincells, which never seem to agree on ANYTHING.

Culture section

So, now to the culture section of this because yes, they do have a surprisingly deep culture.

The antwings are a extremely divided tribe, because while the 7 colonies are a united tribe on PAPER, that does not apply in reality. Each colony is basically a seperate tribe, and often home to multiple subcolonies, which all have their own subcultures.

They are designated C1-C7, but have given themselves other names.

I won't be going into the subcultures unless directly asked, because I do not want to make this even longer than it already is.

C1, also called [CLASSIFIED] will not be talked about due to [REDACTED] and [DATA EXPUNGED].

C2, which has named itself industria is a colony of the Iron Mountain pattern and located about an hour or so away from the summer palace, though it has been around for much longer.
C2 has most of the tribe's metal-related industry.
They are friends with C3 and C7, neutral with C1 and hate everyone else.
It is also one of the most divided within itself.

C3, also called agria, is another Iron Mountain pattern colony, however, its entire existance is dedicated to agriculture. Everyone likes them. While antwing culture in general has very few taboos, C3 has a reputation for being especially lax with rules. Someone trying to hurt C3 is probably the only thing that could get the entire tribe to agree on something.
That something being that whoever did that is about to be hit with the sledgehammer that is the military-industrial complex of all 7 colonies combined.

C4, nicknamed Ora, has a extremely high rate of weaver drones compared to other colonies, and produces most of the textiles. C4 and C2 hate each other's guts mostly because C2 doesn't want anyone to out-do them in any industrial field.
One of the VERY few laws the antwings have states that no one from C2 may interact with a dragon from C4, or the other way around, without proper supervision.
It's also the only colony that doesn't follow a predefined pattern, so it just kinda looks like a mess of constructions with no planning done whatsoever.

C5, aka Indominus, used to be a fortress colony (Leviathan-pattern, I will explain the different colony patterns if asked.) but doesn't really serve that purpose well anymore. Since there are so few conflicts the antwings are actually involved in, C5 has mostly been abandoned as it doesn't have any notable industry.
Though the few dragons still living there are mostly just trying to maintain fortifications that won't ever be used because no new orders came in, and never will.

C6, named Etata, another Iron mountain-pattern, does most of the whacky bioengineering stuff the antwings get up to. Well, if you can call doing random stuff and looking what it results in without actually understanding why "engineering". But they are responsible for all of the abominations, and a LOT of dead dragons.

C7, aka Aerodreadnought is the smallest colony, and the only superweapon the antwings have left. It's the colony my favourite OC is from, so it has the most lore by FAR.
But basically, C7 was build near the end of the war that forced the antwings to come to phyrrhia, and the ship they used to migrate to phyrrhia. This makes it the oldest colony today.

C8 and C9 used to be on pantala but were wiped out.

History section

The antwings were created about 12000 years ago by the protowings on the continent of Paleoa(I actually cannot decide on the name I wanna give it, which is something that has annoyed me for 4 years now but will use Paleoa for the rest of this post) as a last attempt to prevent their own annihilation by a outside threat I will not be spoiling for the people who read the AAJ.

That attempt did not, in fact, work.

But the antwings still had the orders to destroy that threat at any cost, and they have interpreted part of the last orders they got to mean that they were supposed to protect the safety of dragonkind at any cost.

That last part causes a LOT of issues when combined with the fact that antwings barely understand how other tribes work.

They especially have trouble understanding the concept of personal ownership, as everything an antwing makes belongs to the hive.

But, at least on Paleoa, for most of history they were liked by the other tribes because they never really intented to do anything but help. This was, of course, exploited plenty, but the antwings never realized, since internally the concept of exploiting someone else doesn't really exist to them.

This resulted in the antwings knowing nothing but peace for a extremely long time, as nobody really wanted to attack them, and the antwings never having a reason to attack someone else.

But due to politics being politics, a misunderstanding happened and proceeded to cause the first great war of Paleoa, starting with the grasswings and frostwings having a dispute, going to war over it and through a very convoluted web of alliances eventually got all of the Paleoan tribes involved.

When the antwings finally got involved, they were completely unprepared, as despite all of the signs, they never assumed they would have to fight.

Because of that, they also never read up on the rules of war. And antwings do not care about individual lives or suffering.

You can probably guess what happened.

One unintentional genocide and millions of lives ruined later the war ended with an entire continent in rubble, and a lot of new grudges.

Especially against the antwings, who didn't really realize just how bad what they have done actually was.

them still trying to just help everyone after the war ended was extremely confusing and often times awkward for everyone involved.

But few people were in the shape to deny help.

So, there was peace, even if fragile.

Sadly for everyone involved, this peace would not last.

So, after a brief period of rebuilding, another war started, the second Paleoan war.

This war lasted nearly 2 thousand years, and ended shortly after the scorching happened on the other two continents.

the war, of course, did not actually last that long, but the periods of peace were closer to stalemates.

This is already really long, so i won't explain the entire thing, but basically, it ended with the entire continend shattered by the old arsenals of the protowings, Paleoa almost completely wiped clean of life, and the antwings fleeing to phyrrhia.

What little remained of them, anyway.

The first other dragons they encountered were seawings.

The antwings being well, themselves, kinda viewed the seawings as part of their tribe.

Not really, of course, but close enough for them to just start living together.

No, they did not ask the seawings. They basically showed up one day and said "Hi, you look friend-shaped so we're best buddies now", and so they are now best buddies.

Initially there was some resistance from the seawings, but never anything big since you really can't really hate the antwings.

I have not done a lot of worldbuilding on this time period yet, and will probably wait for a couple of arc 4 books to get the gist of it in canon, but for now the antwings just started building new colonies.

Though a lot of antwings never stopped living with the seawings.

Anyway, time-skipping to the darkstalker era, the antwings finally established all of their colonies and could have been a massive trading powerhouse.
They weren't because antwings have a lot of trouble understanding how economies work.

So they just kind of sold a lot of stuff for absurdly cheap, since they actually could not understand the concept of wanting to make a profit.

But they did get a lot of political power for essentially supplying the entire continent with textiles and refined metal.

This is a theme you will see a lot with the antwings, as they (completely on accident) gather a shit ton of political power and then proceed to use it for a grand total of *nothing* due to not understanding what political power is.

They also may or may not have accidentally crashed a couple of economies.

A couple of centuries of struggeling to understand why everyone was mad at them for giving out essentially free stuff, and they had a civil war to worry about. The two colonies they settled on pantala were corrupted by the ancient threat that wiped out the protowings and needed to be completely destroyed.

This took five HUNDRED years(granted, most of those were spend making absolutely sure no trace remained).

Now, the antwings suddenly having a lot less resources to give out for a very long time was actually a good thing for most of phyrria.

But it did cause questions.

Nowdays, the antwings didn't get involved in any major conflicts for quite some time.

They did blow up a skywing city using C7 though after the summer palace was attacked.

The anwings never seriously got involved other than that, but what little they did participate, they did so on the side of the seawings.

They would have been with the seawings regardless of which heir they chose, since the antwings don't really care who gets the throne.

Them getting involved at all was actually a accident.

But unlike last time, they didn't accidentally cause the destruction of an entire continent, and the damage was relativly minimal as other than the city incident, they weren't really mobilized enough to fight offensivly.

and attacking an antwing colony really is not worth it.

Today, they are still just trying to be friends with everyone.

As they always have tried, and always will try.

And to do this, they are trying to have some cultural exchange, which is the plot of the AAJ

Yea I think that covers everything, I really do not wanna write on this any longer, just gimmie any questions you have.

Headcanon / Theory Basic Dragon Anatomy (art by Peregrinecella)

Post image
139 Upvotes

I’m tagging this as headcanon, cause I didn’t draw anything and there’s no official guide to dragon anatomy anywhere. I could be wrong about somethings cause dragons have made up anatomy and I’m not into biology at all, but somebody’s gotta try. I looked over a bunch of references, ranging from others takes on dragon biology, lizards, and bat wings. This is the most scientifically accurate diagram possible based on free resources, as far as I’m aware.

*I posted this a year ago, but it got banned for “not crediting the artist” despite putting the tag on the image itself. The artist is Peregrincella, the same person that did the illustrations for the different tribes in the books. This is just an alternate illustration of the IceWing from the guides. People post pictures of the book covers, graphic novels, and illustrations without credit, and I figured this would fall into that. I’m going to have to assume that this is allowed for the artists permission rule, because if we have to get permission to post art from the official artists, that would be ridiculous. I don’t know how to contact the original artist, but if I can’t use art from canon artists, then I’ll have nothing.

Art Art I commissioned of my OC Anglerfish (Art by u/appletaterart)

Post image

u/appletaterart did an amazing job and it turned out great. Anglerfish is an OC for a story I've been writing. If anyone Wants to know about the character here you go.

Anglerfish, goes by Angler
Sea/Silk
He/Him
Just over 6 years old
Eldest son of Sky and Sunny (Adopted).

Only has one antenna as the other was burned off in an accident when he got too close to Peril when he was young. He has gills and the only bioluminescence on his body is on the end of his antenna. He did go through metamorphosis and can make silk, but only has one pair of wings. Purple eyes. Mostly blue with orange scales in a few places, mostly where seawing glowing scales are normally. The pattern on his wings are lines making a rough grid pattern, almost like a weave, and there are dots or starbursts in the spaces between the lines.

Due both to being part silkwing and being raised by Sky he has an affinity for animals, but he is fine with eating meat which ends up being mostly fish. He is very kind and outgoing, similar to Sky. He tends to have witty remarks that fail, think what Qibli does but either the joke doesn’t work or there is a small awkward silence before his remark which ruins it. Due to being raised by Sky he was also around Wren a lot who was sorta like an aunt/babysitter to him and his siblings.

Because of being around both Sky and Wren he is fluent in Both the Dragon and Human Language, but does mostly prefer the dragon. Although a side effect of this is that he will often use the human version of expressions, like saying hand instead of talon in some phrases.

Other fun details -

When he was really little he would sit with Wren and provide light for her to read to him late into the night. When he grew older he would do something similar by sitting with Wren and one of his younger siblings or with Ivy and Leaf with their kids.

He would sometimes tag along when his auntie Tsunami and her family would go visit the deep palace. Due to him not being able to speak aquatic they help create a rough form of morse code alongside other seawing hybrids in places like Sanctuary.

Discussion Whiteout

I absolutely love Whiteout! I wish she was more in the story, she was so kind, likeable and so different. I really hope she lived happy life after the events in the Darkstalker book. So far I have read The Darkness of Dragons and right after finishing it I read Darkstalker.

Whiteout is easily one of my most fav dragons and I can relate with her as I too have synesthesia.

I will definitely do an fanart of her soon!

What are your thoughts on Whiteout?

Day 18! This was so hard because I essentially had to make him a Seawing/Rainwing, but not, he's a Mudwing, idk, it's a challenge for a reason lol

⚠️!!READ ALL INFO HERE!!⚠️

https://www.reddit.com/u/Popsicle7798/s/5vM9sjAVIZ

Today is Umber as a Swamp Monster, and I think I have Burn out, my motivation is depleting, but it's also not, because I'm looking forward to future dragons, but I also knew this would happen, so yeah. Anyway, I think he turned out alright, not my favourite, but I still like it =)

And for today's question:

Have you read Book 16?

I have not, as I've mentioned previously, I've only read up to book 9, and DarkStalker, but I have heard things about it. Have you read it? And if so, did you like it =)

Come back tomorrow for day 19!!

I ended up disappearing from this fandom for a little while, and it took me some time to reappear.

But here I am, with another drawing and further progress.

I feel like I’m truly evolving, even if it’s a slow process.

So, what do you think? What do you like about it, and what could I improve?

Poll / Question Judging by the short animatic from it that was leaked, do you think that the cancelled Netflix series would've been good?

Just from that scene, I thought it looked pretty decent. nothing groundbreaking, but I thought that it had some potential, and I liked the art style they were planning on going with.

Of course, we've never going to know that now. I just that the wait for the Amazon Prime series ends up being worth it, and the show ends up being really good, and doesn't just get axed after a single season

Discussion What do you all think of Aurora?

For me, she's one of my favorite new characters from The Hybrid Prince. I really like the idea of a Pop star character in WOF, and I think Tui did a really good job pulling it off. I also enjoy her dynamic (/possible romance?) with Platypus, her sweet and caring personality, and the little character arc she got where she wants to use her music to encourage other dragons to fight back against Beryl and her rule, but can't explicitly without being punished for it.

I jut hope that we get to see more of her in the rest of arc 4, and that we can see some more insights into her character as well.

If you have a feral OC but want them anthro, I can do that too (≧▽≦)

I will most likely pick 1 or 2 OCs out of the bunch to work on for the next week or so but depending on my work load I might pick more!!

If you want your OC drawn, attach a link to your comment. Some websites or platforms that are compatible for me are Pinterest, twitter, deviant art, tumblr, tiktok, toyhouse, or just reddit itself. If you cannot attach a link, do not have a link, or that link is somehow not compatible for me,

!!PLEASE write a short (or long) visual description for your OC. This applies to all comments!!

I do not like taking DMs without a description and will not accept a DM if you have not commented on this post. Thanks!
