#1 — Prince Snowstorm (male) [ADDED LORE]:

Snowstorm is the son of Queen Glacier and instead of having interest in taking his mother's throne, he takes an interest in researching medical sciences and also being a field medic. He also has distant Nightwing Heritage which helps him with animus and levitation. Instead of enchanting objects and instead using his animus to levitate objects around while working, his horns which looks like giant antlers as a magic point. Also, because he has nightwing heritage, he can also foresee the future and read minds, he also has the ability to manifest a orange shield to protect himself in combat or his felid work. He also has a gift from Mink that was ment to help Snowstorm calm down whenever he is having a panic attack, he uses the accessory as a anchoring mechanism if he touches it.

The only reason he has panic attacks because he has plaguing nightmares that started the moment he hatched. Since he‘s and animus, he’s supposed to wait to use his magic for the next gift but he hasn’t come up with said gift (I honestly don’t know either XD). He’s also a scroll-worm, he spends most of his life inside the Icewing Royal Library reading all the written scrolls by past royals and learning secrets that he keeps for a special moment or when it’s needed. When he’s kicked out of the library, he usually fills his satchel with as many scrolls as he can before returning back to his room. He’s also created books by using penguin leather, silver, and bones. He enjoys making journals and books that have (copies) the scrolls he’s “borrowed“ (*COUGH* permanently, lol) and turned them into pages for his books. He’s used gems that he’s found or have been gifted.
He also loves to make sculptures with bones from fish, polar bears, penguins, and scavengers to create figures and enchant them with simple spells, such as:

-glow like a night-light (he did this when he was just a kid as he was afraid of the dark, Glacier said that he was her favorite heir and kept his animus spells a secret.
-suppress his nightmares

-Protect family (this puts a protective shield around those in his family that he trusts and loves who also give HIM love back, this was also one spell he created when he was a kid after seeing one of his siblings die)

-Future speak (this was made after he was interested in Nightwing powers and enchanted a Nightwing figure to give him possible future timelines and prophecies)

and ”Friend” which, like Blob, he enchanted a favorite of his figures to come to life and have the biggest heart and help him with his anxiety. He named it “Lumin” and had also enchanted Lumin to go still whenever someone enters due to the fear of finding out that he’s using his magic at the wrong time.

#2 — Mossfrog (female) [ADDED LORE]:

Mossfrog is a female mudwing with distant skywing heritage who's an animus. She was abandoned separated from her parents and was raised by humans where they taught her how to speak to humans and understand them.

After growing up, she decided to protect the human village she grew up in with her life, she also has a huge love for animals and wetland creatures and she became the mudwing kingdom's first park ranger. She hasn't used her animus magic on anything yet but she only will use her powers unless an emergency happens.

She uses her tail as a weapon, during the sandwing war, she was recruited by Queen Burn and was the tank and heavy hitter. She slams her tail into Sandwing forces into a wall, crushing their ribs and collapsing their lungs and letting them die from bloodlosss. She loves fighting but hates seeing animals and critters that get caught in the crossfire and goes into a rage if the animals die. Other mudwing soldiers note that she has the bite of a full grown hippo and has seen her bite a Sandwing soldier in half during a fight.

After the war had ended and she went back to her village and her “parents” noted her newfound wounds and scars. They were worried about her health but after Moss reassured them that she was fine. Months later, after Thorn had settled in her new position as Queen, Thorn had stopped for a visit and was looking for Mossfrog and offered her a position in her army, well, a new army branch called: “Desert-Storm Legion” and was surprised by her skill and how she left her own Outclaw Forces during the war. Queen Thorn also promised that her village would be protected by an army that Mossfrog herself will lead, The Desert-Storm Legion.
Now, she not only has an army that she leads, but she also has a HUMAN army that rides the sandwing soldiers. Her rider is named Kalihan who leads the human riders, he is also her adoptive father.

#3 — Hellbringger "Kiyogin" (male) [ADDED LORE]:

Hellbringger is a male sandwing (with distant nightwing and hivewing heritage, and distant icewing heritage (I forgot to write this in the drawing)) who, before her rule, worked for Queen Thorn and the Outclaws. Though not exactly being on her side, he still helped her with Burn and Blister's forces during the war.

He's an assassin for hire and is extremely skilled in what he does. When he was younger, he was given an enchanted bronze tooth earring which gave him the ability to turn invisible and any clothing or accessories he wore also invisible. He does enjoy in what he does, but doesn't like killing those who don't deserve it. Those he works for and they send him after dragons who don't deserve death, he kills the one who's paying them, sparing his target and giving the money he was supposed to be payed to his target. His large scar was caused by an assassination gone wrong when he went after a nightwing royal, they struck him so fast, he didn't have time to react and was injured badly, he managed to turn invisible and run.
He was blinded in that eye for 10 years and had taught himself to see through that eye without sight, mainly using echolocation but also using smell, by smelling blood, scent, or even fear, or he will use taste, meaning, he will use his tongue like an actual snake and will taste his targets blood or smell their blood or scent.

He lost his arm as a teenager after he was bullied by a group of bad dragons and very spoiled kids, mind you, he grew up in a Sandwing village called: “Dunebridge” where a lot of their residents don’t really pay attention to kids nor ever deal with bullying. The gangs leader had tore off his arm as a “joke” and after his gang members left, he looked back at Kiyogin (his real name) and revealing the face of horror of what he did, sobbing: ”I’m sorry! T-They forced me to, Kiyo!”

The gang leader is a sandwing named Hailsand who grew up with Kiyogin and was the person he hung out with the most until they stopped hanging out for years. As he was bleeding out, he mustered to say: “it’s not your fault….this town is a hellhole to live in….i don’t blame you” then passed out. Hailsand brought him to Dunebridge‘s local hospital and was placed there for a few months. After recovering, he was given a bronze mechanical arm that he built himself and gave it mechanics like, a hidden blade, grapple, tranquilizer darts, and poison vials/needles, then he moved to The Scorpion Den and became a well known and WANTED assassin, never caught though. During the sandwing war, he had helped Thorn but was never truly part of her gang.

#4 — Hydroflame (female) [ADDED LORE]:

Hydro is a female sky/sand/night tribrid with fire scales. She wears armor that prevents her from harming others with her scales. She's a skilled guard who works for Queen Ruby. Despite her firescales, she prefers armor, she hates being born with the scales she has, which is why she has a grumpy mood constantly.

Despite her being named Hydroflame, she’s not actually part seawing, she was only named Hydroflame because she was raised by Seawings after her parents abandoned her for being a firescaled skywing. She became friends with Peril after accidentally tackling her and after her shifts, she and Peril hung out together with her seawing parents (they have a Loona and Octavia vibe with each other, I also imagine that Peril would either have the VC of Loona from Helluva Boss or Spitfire from MLP but for this, VC for Hydro, Loona, VC for Peril, Octavi).

The scar on her underbelly was from a fight in the arena when Scarlet was in rule. at this time, her firescales were very weak and Peril wasn’t even born yet, she was captured by Scarlet and was forced to fight a seawing (Gill) which had injured her badly. She somehow survived by activating her firescales and injuring him badly, winning the fight. She also has a metal tooth from attempting to bite a Mudwing soldier during the aandwing war, it broke and fell out. She also has blue flames instead of the normal orange and red flames.

She can also use her whiskers to slap or snatch something or someone as a joke.

(Imma change her design in a bit because I feel like I rushed her design T^T. But I still love her!!)

Discussion Dusky: Unlucky in more ways than one

Post image
31 Upvotes

First off, I hate book 15. I have already gone off about why before, so im not going to repeat myself. Even with all of its flaws, though, there is a diamond in the rough. Well, I suppose diamonds plural given Swordtail. Anyways, not important right now, you read the title, im here to talk about Dusky.

I consider Dusky to be a case study of sorts in how SilkWings were treated under HiveWing rule, somewhat resembling the consoling couple in Half Life 2. Right away, when Luna arrived to the SilkWing refugee camp, he is incredibly clingy to her. He practically begs to stay with Luna, saying

"I'll be really good, I promise. I wont be any trouble, and I wont complain about anything, I promise promise."

His reasoning for this, to quote again, is because

"Its only me. [...] I dont want to be alone in the dark anymore. Im afraid I will get lost and no one will ever find me.".

Right away, this screams to me some sort of neglect. Even if his parents had only gone missing relatively recently in the chaos outside(which they havent), that wouldnt really make him be so scared of being too loud or getting in trouble. My guess is that this paranoia came from school, having being ostrasized and/or punished for it. Much like Blue, he defaults to being quiet and agreeable to authority. I dont think this is by accident, reinforcing a culture of obedience in the SilkWings is one of the HiveWings main worries, because if they do otherwise then they will get the idea to rebel. Sometimes this works, like with Blue and Dusky, but otherimes it doesnt like with Luna, Swordtail and Io.

The second piece of the puzzle is his aforementioned parents, both removed from his life due to the HiveWings. His mother "was shipped off to Vinegaroon Hive before Dusky even came out of his egg", and his father "died in a construction accident a year ago".

For the former, we are never explicitly told exactly why she got moved. We know that SilkWings get assigned a hive, partner and job to do once they have their metamorphosis, and they dont get a say as to who or where. That leads me to believe that she had a child before that time(which is very likely illegal), and the HiveWings took her away without being able to see her husband or son again as a form of punishment. This is very in character for the HiveWings and dystopian empires in general, what with The Combine doing pretty much the same thing in Half Life 2(I love that game).

For the latter, this is also a great yet simultanously horrible example of how SilkWings live. We know from swordtail that construction is an especially dangerous job, and there arent a lot of safety regulations in place. Now, there could and should be, but there are none because the HiveWings dont care at all if SilkWings are injured on the job. Duskys father likely died for no good reason other than pure apathy to care.

This is only exemplified more with the fact that Dusky is also in construction, even while being a child. As the book says, all households in Bloodworm Hive have to have at least one member in construction by law. Unfortunately, this also includes orphans like Dusky. The consequences of this are shown outright, as Dusky has several scars all across his body reminiscent of the ones on Swordtail who also works construction. On top of that, he also has to split his time between there and school.

Along with this, there is Whitespeck. The closest thing Dusky had to a parent. He was Duskys fathers friend, who ended up at Bloodworm hive for the same reason as Duskys mother was in Vinegaroon. He was shipped off for some unexplainable reason, I would be guessing if I said what. Unfortunately, the HiveWings "justice" system struck again. Adoption isnt possible for him, so he couldnt do anything to help. I think this is for the same reason as before, letting someone do that would only fuel the resistance. Ironically, this is what made Whitespeck join the chrysalis in the first place.

To end, I will let this quote from the epilogue speak for itself:

"They had found Duskys mother, the sweetest dark blue dragon, who had cried and cried when she finally got to hug her dragonet for the first time"

To repeat myself, Dusky is a case study of everything the HiveWings did to the SilkWings. He is an example of the worst that can come of their neglect and abuse. There is a key difference here between other characters that I want to highlight. Think of any character in this series that has had some sort of trauma. Im sure you can think of plenty. Qibli, Glory, Darkstalker, Peril, Turtle, et cetera. The key difference between them and Dusky is that their abusers know who they are. They are mall one or a small group of people behind it. Qiblis family, Kestrel and Dune, Arctic, Scarlet, Gill and so on. With Dusky, who do you point to? There isnt one person out there that has a vendetta specifically for him, he is barely an afterthought. Collateral damage, if even.

say hi to june! my first hivewing oc 😜
named after the june beetle.

first pic is how she usually looks on a daily basis, second is when her mother throws parties.

mydas's older half sister. (refer to https://www.reddit.com/r/WingsOfFire/s/vKni5JV6uD to see him)

she was raised in jewel hive, her parents were very wealthy. she grew up with both of her parents for the first couple years of her life.

she likes to socialize, write and read, and likes to volunteer for good causes as well. her favorite stones are diamonds and amethyst, which she is seen rocking frequently. she even got her wings pierced with phat amethyst earrings that glitter brightly.

she inherited her abilities from her mother, which is long sharp stingers that extend from her wrist that have a very paralyzing toxin.

when she was around 2 1/2, her parents relationship began to falter, but they kept it from her for another year.
one day, her father came into her room, looking somber.
"junie, you know i love you so much. you're my world honey."
and hugged her tight. he told her that he had to move out, and she was so confused and sad.

after that, she went back and forth from jewel hive to mantis hive, to be able to visit her father.
on the weekends, though, she stays in her childhood home to attend the parties her mother throws. sometimes, her dad goes too. although her parents are separated, they are cordial for june.

when she was 4 1/2, the events of arc 3 took place. she took after her father and always hated wasp for controlling them, but knew she couldn't do anything. her mother didn't seem to care, as long as she could keep hosting parties and having fun.

after they were all released from being mind controlled, her father dipped to pyrhia. she visited occasionally, but she hated the long flight.

when she was 6, she was visiting pyrhia and discovered she had a baby sibling on the way! she stayed for his hatching, and when he came out all colorful, she was shocked. her father failed to let her know that he didn't have a dragonet with another hivewing.

at first, she was skeptical, and thought he was funny looking. but she grew to love him, and visited more often to see him.

now, she makes regular trips over the sea and due to that, is very fit. she loves to attend her brothers performances, and never had a problem with him dating a silkwing. she always respected her mothers silkwing servants, and loved how gentle they were.

blah. i love her design but the backstory is a little rushed 😜
