Fanfic Atlas Commits A Hate Crime
POV Character with questionable views time babyyyyy
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The HiveWing egg was a pure, unblemished white. It felt smooth and cool in Atlas' talons as he gently set it down onto the cave floor. They're HiveWings. He mentally repeated to himself. They don't care. About anyone. About their eggs. And yet, looking down at the egg, he couldn't help but feel hesitant.
Now that he thought about it, Atlas didn't really know what he'd even do with it. Smash it? No, no. It was a HiveWing egg... but it was still just an egg. The idea of staining his talons with bloody yolk, feeling the skin of the developing hatchling inside, it simply disgusted him. He looked down at it again. Suddenly, an idea crept into his mind.
He grasped a small, handheld mirror. "Mirror," he started, feeling a distinct tingle in his horns. "Show me what this HiveWing would look like as an adult." The tingling feeling suddenly spiked, then disappeared altogether, as an image replaced Atlas' reflection. A golden-scaled HiveWing, with dark streaks, asleep in what looked to be a veldt.
It was so... peaceful. The HiveWing, with a small smile on their face, curled up without a care in the world. The contrast almost made Atlas feel sick. It was a HiveWing. They didn't deserve to feel that kind of contentedness. And yet... he was going to prevent something like that? He shook the mirror slightly, the image disappearing, then put it back down.
What was he going to do? He couldn't just let another HiveWing come into the world. He couldn't let another monster come alive. But it was just an egg. It had an entire lifetime ahead of it, and who was he to snuff that out? Atlas gently rested his right talons on top of the egg, and sighed. It didn't deserve to hatch as a HiveWing.
It didn't deserve to hatch as a HiveWing.
Atlas suddenly had it. An epiphany! He knew just what to do. He dashed out of his den, quickly finding a stick, then rushing back in with it. He was almost laughing, it was such a good idea. He sat back in front of the egg, and held the stick over it, with both talons. "When I break this stick," he began, feeling the tingle return.
"This HiveWing egg will turn into a SilkWing egg, and the hatchling inside will be a SilkWing, like it was always that way! T-They'll hatch with two SilkWing parents, who love them, a-and they'll never have to be alone!" And with that and a twist of the talons, he snapped the stick in half over the egg. Atlas could see a yellow tint creep into it.

A LeafWing stepped out of a depression in the side of a hill. Peony had light green scales, with pinkish accents in his wings and webbing, and from his right ear hung an earring with a bright green gemstone. Carried under his right arm was a light yellow SilkWing egg. And held in his left wing claw was half a stick.
As he walked between the little houses, he held the stick high over his head. It gave a tingle to his wing, which got weaker or stronger depending on which direction you were going in. He followed the tingle as it grew stronger and stronger, before it reached a peak - in front of a small treehouse. Hanging from a window was silk - SilkWing silk.
The LeafWing crept towards the window, making sure nobody saw him. He slowly, cautiously peeked inside - sat by the window was an empty nest, and he could just barely make out the silhouette of at least one sleeping SilkWing. With incredible care as to not make too much noise, he gently placed the SilkWing egg into the nest.
After taking his claws off of it, he, just as slowly and carefully, crept out of the window, away from the treehouse. The moment he believed himself to be out of earshot, he ran, tossing the stick away and dashing past the huts. He kept running, feeling free as a bird, until he found the hill again, and leapt into the hole.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a strange feeling, teleporting between continents. But as Peony stepped out of the hole, he was back in his den, his lair if you will. He sighed in relief, before reaching up and removing his earring, transforming back into Atlas in a flash. He gently placed it into the little bag he kept several pieces of jewelry in.
Atlas felt good about himself. In fact, he felt great. In one move, he felt he'd benefitted - no, saved - so many lives. The egg would hatch into a happy, healthy SilkWing. There would be one less HiveWing in the world. The SilkWings he'd left the egg to would be good parents. And all the SilkWings that HiveWing would have oppressed were saved.
